“Beautiful example, as usual from David! Love love love love the original paint and stripes, even with blemishes here and there that attest to its lifetime of soulfulness. The R50 is such a smooooooth sweet little bike, everyone needs one! Good luck to all interested bidders, these original paint beauties don’t come around often.”

“I know this car better than most, having owned it for seven years between 2016 – 2023 and being mostly responsible for the condition that it is presented in today.
I have owned three DC2’s in total, they are wonderful drivers cars, for the enthusiast.
This one however is truly unrepeatable, it genuinely is a special car.
when I bought the car it was unmolested, completely factory original with complete history, all keys and literature present even down to the original dealer plates…”11

“Way back in the day, in 1963 when I was just 14 years old, there was one of these for sale at the local Skelly station. The place was a favorite hangout for many of us early teens, and the car was parked on the side of the station. It was a dark blue, light blue, and white combination as I recall, and I thought it was the coolest thing on wheels. So, I managed to drag Dad over to take a look.
I thought he might also find it cool, as he was a car guy, and I thought maybe I could get him to…”17

“Just stunning. Hard to imagine today that these were once just considered cars and converted to race cars and sometimes trucks! I read where a wealthy widow donated her late husband’s for scrap to support the war effort.”

“My 66 Shelby is a 4 speed, my 65 cobra is a manual, but I have owned two 67 500 Automatics and 3 67 350 4 Speeds. I loved my 67 small block cars, but nothing like putting a 500 in drive and just cruise. Maybe I’m just getting old, but I did catch myself driving the auto 500s more than the manuals.”

“What a legacy this car has… Bruce McLaren, who “finished second behind Jack Brabham”… those are names I read about in Car & Driver as a kid… cars were named after these men! And the tracks: Silverstone, Riverside, Laguna Seca… storied venues all.
This is a piece of history, never to be repeated. That it was powered by the little aluminum Buick engine, fed by a quartet of Webers is like icing on the cake. Once again, the offerings on BaT never fail to surprise and amaze.”8

“The first thing I looked at was the first driving video, and that made my morning, seeing the focus with the manual steering. No lackadaisical grip on that wheel.
Just the right street car for getting the blood pumping, without needing to get crazy to do it. A simple and easily maintainable build, with no exotic or exceptionally expensive components, and easy access to pretty much everything. It seems like a car that can happily sit on a battery tender, with some fuel stabilizer, and be…”12

“@Treetrimmer is spot-on. Ford’s own memos state that the purpose of this group of these GTs was not to introduce the Mustang, but to introduce the first-ever offering of the availability of the GT Package. That’s why the 60 cars were not 1964 1/2 models. They were 1965 models because that’s the year in which the GT Package was first offered.
In reference to a different comment, comparing them to pace cars, etc. reveals they are not so alike for several reasons. Mainly, the introduction…”14

“The 4.08 rear end coupled with the 5 speed ZF makes any Pagoda 230,250,280 a sports car with far better acceleration, and also legs for the highway without the typical high revs of the 4 speeds. A 4.08 could not work in a 4 speed, since with even their 3.xx rear ends they are spinning to fast for highway speeds.”

“Man, already at $4M before I could get my comment in….
I want to thank the team at BaT for bringing us so far. It is amazing to cross the quarter million auctions milestone together.
And a big thank you to the @1600veloce team for helping us mark the occasion with this beautiful 288. Anthony gets so much well-deserved credit, but it takes the whole team there to do the amazing things they do.
And maybe my favorite part of BaT is that Lot #250,001, right behind this one, is a…”122

Our team was so proud to be a part of this journey.
@bringatrailer Randy I want to thank you for all the support and the fun ideas we have bounced off each other all these years. This listing like any listing, can be a bumper for an MG to a Halo Ferrari. It all belongs here. The best site, the best community.
We discussed what type of car we would want to list. Well here…”63

“These cars were so ahead of their time. Supercharged, intercooled, 4 wheel discs with ABS, IRS with adaptive damping, even pneumatic adjustable side bolsters. I still have my 35th anniversary 5 speed version, and it remains a pleasure to drive unlike most crude live axle domestics of the era.”

“Jimmy Don Ventura had owned enough unusual automobiles over the years to believe he understood the public. He’d driven a lime-green AMC Gremlin, a Triumph Spitfire that leaked oil with the determination of an East Texas mosquito, and a Plymouth Barracuda that had once stranded him in front of the Dairy Twin during the lunch rush. Every one of them had attracted comments, questions, and unsolicited mechanical advice from complete strangers.
Then he bought Fred.
Officially, it was a 1949…”
