The Thai Jet Ski Championship will return to Hua Hin later this month, with round two of the TOYOTA – WGP#1 Waterjet Pro Tour Thailand 2026 to be held at Suan Son Pradipat Beach from 28-31 May.

The four-day event is part of Thailand’s main national jet ski championship, which is being staged across four rounds in different parts of the country.

Hua Hin has been selected as the venue for the second round, following the opening round of the 2026 season, which took place in Nong Khai from 2-5 April. The championship is officially known as the TOYOTA – WGP#1 Waterjet Pro Tour Thailand 2026.

Irish Football association withdraws support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino

The Irish Football Association (FAI) has formally confirmed that it has withdrawn its support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, delivering another setback to his bid to secure a fourth term as the head of world football’s governing body. According to international media reports, the FAI informed Infantino of its decision through a formal letter. The association said that recent developments had raised serious concerns regarding governance, transparency and consultation within FIFA. The decision reflects growing unease among football organisations over the way important matters have been handled under Infantino’s leadership. The withdrawal of support from Ireland adds to increasing pressure on Infantino as he prepares to seek another term as FIFA president. Infantino has led FIFA since 2016 and was re-elected in 2019 and again in 2023. A fourth term would extend his leadership of the organisation, but recent disagreements with several football bodies could make the process more challenging. European football’s governing body UEFA, along with CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation, have already expressed serious concerns about Infantino’s leadership. These organisations have accused him of undermining trust and have raised questions about governance and communication. The FAI’s decision is particularly significant because Ireland is one of the associations within the British Isles football community, where several national football bodies have recently reconsidered their positions regarding Infantino. The Football Association of Wales became the first of the four British home nations to withdraw its support for Infantino. The English Football Association has also stepped back from supporting the FIFA president. The latest decision by the Irish association further increases the number of football bodies distancing themselves from Infantino. Meanwhile, the Northern Ireland Football Association has also expressed support for UEFA’s position. Although the four home nations operate independently in international football, their positions can carry political and symbolic importance within the wider European football structure. The growing disagreement centres largely on concerns about FIFA’s governance practices and the level of consultation with national and regional football organisations. Critics believe that major decisions affecting international football should involve greater communication and consultation with the organisations directly responsible for the sport in their respective regions. The FAI’s letter is therefore being viewed as another indication of the growing divisions between FIFA leadership and some of its member associations. While withdrawing support does not automatically prevent Infantino from seeking another term, it demonstrates that his leadership is facing opposition from several influential football organisations. Infantino has previously defended FIFA’s approach and has promoted reforms aimed at expanding football’s global reach and increasing opportunities for national associations. Under his presidency, FIFA has also pursued major changes to international competitions and commercial strategies. However, disagreements over governance and transparency have increasingly become a source of tension between FIFA and some football confederations. With the Irish Football Association now joining other organisations in withdrawing or reconsidering their support, Infantino’s campaign for a fourth presidential term faces a growing political challenge. The developments are likely to increase pressure on FIFA to address concerns about transparency, consultation and trust before the next presidential election. The extent to which other national football associations follow Ireland, Wales and England could play an important role in determining the strength of Infantino’s bid for another term. For now, the FAI’s decision represents another significant warning for the FIFA president as opposition to his leadership continues to grow across parts of the international football community.

Fatima Zehra says better facilities could have earned gold

Pakistan’s trailblazing boxer Fatima Zehra believes she had the potential to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games if she had access to the same level of training facilities and international exposure as many of her competitors. The 22-year-old made history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to win a boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games after claiming bronze in the women’s 60kg category. Although she narrowly missed out on a place in the final, Fatima described the achievement as a proud moment for herself and for Pakistan. Reflecting on her campaign, Fatima said her main objective before the tournament was to secure a medal, while also hoping to progress to the final. She admitted that the competition was extremely challenging, with many of her opponents benefiting from extensive international training and experience. Her journey ended in the semi-finals, where she faced Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh. Fatima acknowledged that her opponent’s speed and international experience proved decisive, making it difficult to overcome the challenge. Despite the defeat, she expressed satisfaction with her bronze medal, saying it was earned against some of the strongest boxers in the competition. She also noted that competing at such a high level allowed her to gain valuable experience by observing other elite athletes and learning from every bout. Fatima highlighted the gap between Pakistan’s sporting infrastructure and that of leading boxing nations. She pointed out that several countries, including regional rivals, organized overseas training camps in the United States before the Games, while Pakistan’s preparations took place entirely at home. According to Fatima, world-class coaching facilities, modern training environments, and regular international competition are essential if Pakistani athletes are to consistently challenge for top honors on the global stage. She believes greater government investment in sports development would significantly improve the country’s chances of success. The young boxer also acknowledged the role played by the Pakistan Army, the Pakistan Boxing Federation, and her coach, Raheel Adnan, crediting them for their guidance and support throughout her preparation. She said their encouragement was instrumental in helping her achieve the historic milestone. Looking ahead, Fatima has already shifted her focus to the upcoming Asian Games, which are scheduled to take place in Japan in September. She hopes the experience gained at the Commonwealth Games will strengthen her performances against Asia’s top competitors. Fatima previously won a bronze medal at the 2025 Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia, and she is determined to build on that success by aiming for an even stronger finish at the Asian Games. Her boxing journey has not been without challenges. She revealed that although boxing now runs in her family, her parents initially opposed her decision to pursue the sport. After competing at the Punjab level, she was forced to step away from boxing because of her family’s concerns. However, her coach Raheel Adnan convinced them to give her another opportunity, a decision that ultimately changed her career. Today, her family fully supports her ambitions, and her two sisters, Dua and Aiman, along with her younger brother Naday Ali, have also taken up boxing. Fatima secured her historic Commonwealth Games bronze after defeating New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the quarter-finals. Under tournament rules, both losing semi-finalists were awarded bronze medals, marking a landmark achievement for women’s boxing in Pakistan.

KOLKATA: Indian wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been arrested by Kolkata Police in connection with a case involving allegations of rape and other sexual offences, with a court remanding the 23-year-old cricketer to three days of police custody. Porel was arrested on Monday night and produced before the High Court the following day. The development comes as police investigate allegations made against the emerging cricketer. The allegations have not been proven in court. The case was filed on June 23. During an earlier hearing on July 14, the court was informed that police needed to take further steps to seize electronic devices allegedly linked to the accused. According to court proceedings, investigators were seeking the devices because they allegedly contained obscene photographs of the complainant. The court directed police authorities to continue efforts to apprehend the individuals concerned and seize the devices to prevent the alleged material from being circulated. During the August 11 hearing, the court was informed through a message from the officer in charge of Mogra Police Station that one of the respondents had been arrested on the night of August 11. Police subsequently sought additional time to complete the required legal and investigative procedures. Porel, who bats left-handed and keeps wicket, has emerged as one of India’s promising young domestic cricketers. He has represented Bengal and has played 32 first-class matches, while also featuring in 35 Indian Premier League games. His most recent competitive cricket came during the 2026 IPL season, when he appeared in four matches for Delhi Capitals before the tournament concluded. The police investigation is expected to focus on the allegations, the electronic evidence mentioned in court and statements from those involved in the case.
