South Korea beats NASA to first photos of SpaceX Moon crash

A spent SpaceX rocket stage slammed into the Moon on August 5, travelling at roughly 8,700 kilometres per hour. South Korea’s Danuri orbiter was perfectly positioned to capture the moment.

The Korea Aerospace Administration released the images on August 6, beating NASA’s own Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to the first confirmed photos of the impact site.

KASA had adjusted Danuri’s orbital path specifically for this event. The manoeuvre let the probe fly around 340 to 350 kilometres above the impact zone near Einstein Crater, capturing images just before and after the collision.

Using its high-resolution Lunar Terrain Imager, the satellite photographed the site at an estimated resolution of five metres per pixel. A separate instrument measured changes in surface reflectivity to help gauge how much debris the impact had thrown up.

KASA compared the difficulty of the shot to photographing a car crash in Busan from an aircraft flying above Seoul. The comparison highlighted just how precise the timing and positioning needed to be.

The rocket stage originally launched in January 2025, carrying Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lander and ispace’s RESILIENCE spacecraft toward the Moon. Both spacecraft were part of separate lunar missions at the time.

Falcon 9 upper stages are typically destroyed by burning up in Earth’s atmosphere after their missions end. This particular stage, however, had used up nearly all its fuel reaching lunar orbit, leaving it drifting as space debris.

Gravitational and solar forces eventually pulled the stage back down, resulting in the lunar impact. SpaceX confirmed it had coordinated with NASA on the disposal process for the spent stage.

The company noted that controlled descents are not always possible for upper stages following this kind of trajectory. NASA administrator Jared Isaacman downplayed the event’s significance afterward.

Isaacman pointed out that meteoroids strike the lunar surface roughly every hour. He noted that impacts of this scale happen approximately every six days, framing the incident as fairly routine rather than dramatic.

Swifties await Taylor’s debut album re-recording

Taylor Swift has once again sparked excitement among her fans, with fresh speculation suggesting that the pop superstar could release a re-recorded version of her self-titled debut album to mark its 20th anniversary. Swift’s debut album was released in 2006 and played a major role in launching her career. As she approaches the two-decade milestone, reports and fan theories about a possible new release have begun circulating online. The singer had previously revealed that she had already completed a new recording of the album. In a letter shared in 2025, Swift celebrated regaining ownership of the master recordings from her first six albums and confirmed that her debut record had been fully re-recorded. She explained that the new version was something she was proud of and suggested that the remaining re-recordings could eventually be released as a celebration rather than being driven by her previous dispute over ownership. The latest speculation centres on October 23, 2026, which would mark 20 years since the original album’s release. A Taylor Swift fan account claimed that a German online retailer had listed CDs connected to a possible re-release of the debut album. However, there has been no official confirmation from Swift or her team regarding a release date, tracklist or album artwork. The online listings have therefore fuelled anticipation but should not be treated as confirmation of an upcoming release. Swift’s re-recording project began after a long-running dispute over ownership of the master recordings of her early work. Her former label, Big Machine Records, retained ownership of the original masters under the terms of her contract. The masters were later acquired by Ithaca Holdings, a company associated with music executive Scooter Braun, after the label was sold in 2019. The development led to a highly publicised dispute and ultimately encouraged Swift to begin recreating her earlier albums under the “Taylor’s Version” banner. So far, Swift has released re-recorded editions of Fearless, Red, Speak Now and 1989. Fans have continued to wait for the remaining two albums, particularly her self-titled debut.

Terrorism case registered after clash at MQM-P hea…

Karachi police have registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act following a violent clash between rival groups at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) headquarters in Bahadurabad that left several people injured and spread panic in the surrounding area. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case has been registered by the state at New Town Police Station under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, including rioting, attempted murder, causing injuries and unlawful assembly, along with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. Police have nominated two suspects, identified as Azhar alias Lumba and Zeeshan Habib, while 20 to 25 unidentified individuals have also been named in the case. Investigators said police received reports on the evening of August 2 that two groups had clashed near Choti Market in Bahadurabad. During the violence, a man identified as Amir sustained a bullet injury to his arm, while two others, Asad and Kashir Ali, were also injured. All three were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment. The FIR states that both groups allegedly exchanged gunfire and fired into the air, creating fear among residents and disrupting public order. Authorities also noted that Section 144 was in force at the time, prohibiting the display of weapons and public disorder. Police said the suspects fled the scene before law enforcement personnel arrived. The incident reportedly occurred during a party meeting at MQM-P’s central office. According to police, tensions escalated after the meeting ended, leading to a confrontation between supporters of different party factions. Officials said workers belonging to one faction allegedly assaulted members of the rival group and forced them out of the party headquarters. Heavy gunfire was also reported from inside the premises, causing alarm among nearby residents.

Gigi Hadid fuels relationship buzz with ring in Paris

Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper have once again fueled speculation about the status of their relationship after they were spotted wearing matching rings during a recent outing in Paris. The couple, who have been romantically linked since October 2023, were photographed leaving a gym together on Thursday. During the outing, Hadid was seen wearing a ring on her left hand, drawing renewed attention to the jewellery that has recently sparked engagement and marriage rumours. For the casual workout session, Cooper kept his look simple, wearing a backwards white baseball cap, a blue One Tribe Foundation “Hero 365” T-shirt, and matching athletic shorts. Unlike Hadid, however, he was not seen wearing the ring during the gym visit. The pair first ignited speculation earlier this week when they appeared together in Paris wearing matching rings. Fans quickly questioned whether the accessories signaled an engagement or a secret wedding. Reports suggest Hadid’s ring is a luxury wedding band crafted by French jewellery house Boucheron. The model’s piece is believed to be the Quatre Radiant Edition Wedding Band, valued at approximately $6,450. Cooper’s matching ring is said to be the Godron Pink Gold Wedding Band, priced at around $2,120. The complementary designs have attracted attention because they symbolize unity and commitment. The double-band style of Cooper’s ring is often associated with the strength of a lasting relationship, adding to the speculation surrounding the couple’s romance. Despite the growing rumours, multiple reports indicate that the rings do not necessarily mean wedding plans are underway. According to an insider, the couple have owned the rings for several months and consider them commitment rings rather than engagement or wedding bands. The source claimed that Hadid and Cooper are happy with their relationship but are not interested in having a traditional wedding or getting married at this stage. The insider also noted that their relationship continues to grow stronger and that they are in a good place together. The latest sighting comes as Cooper spends time in Paris for professional commitments. The actor is reportedly preparing for a major film project in which he is expected to write, direct and star. The upcoming production is said to explore the backstory of Danny Ocean’s father and is set years before the events of the popular Ocean’s 11 franchise. In addition to the live-action film, Cooper is also expected to lend his voice to an upcoming animated feature directed by acclaimed filmmaker Bong Joon Ho. The project features an ensemble voice cast and is scheduled for release in 2027. Both stars have children from previous relationships. Hadid shares five-year-old daughter Khai with former partner Zayn Malik, while Cooper co-parents nine-year-old daughter Lea De Seine with model Irina Shayk. Although marriage rumours continue to circulate, neither Hadid nor Cooper has publicly commented on the significance of the matching rings, leaving fans to continue speculating about the future of their relationship.

Modi ramps up Gen Z outreach on Instagram

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a fresh social media campaign aimed at winning over young voters, shifting to a more informal and relatable style on Instagram after recent student-led protests exposed growing frustration over jobs and education. The campaign features selfie-style videos, casual greetings and short clips with popular music, reflecting a departure from the highly polished political messaging traditionally associated with Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The strategy is designed to connect with India’s Generation Z audience, which is expected to play a decisive role in the 2029 general election. The renewed digital push follows nationwide protests by students and job seekers last month after an examination paper leak triggered widespread anger over the country’s education and employment system. The demonstrations eventually led to the resignation of India’s education minister. In response, BJP leaders and government ministries have increased their presence on youth-focused platforms by sharing short videos with minimal editing and a more spontaneous style. Officials believe authentic content is more likely to resonate with younger audiences than carefully scripted political messaging. Political observers say Instagram and similar platforms reward creativity, humour and genuine interaction, making them more challenging environments for traditional political campaigns. They note that recent protests gained significant momentum through viral reels and short videos that amplified public dissatisfaction. Beyond social media, the BJP and its ideological affiliate, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), have also expanded outreach efforts by organising events and discussions targeting students and first-time voters. With more than half of India’s 1.4 billion population under the age of 35, analysts say younger voters are expected to become one of the most influential electoral groups in the next general election.

Errors found in Mir Raza Ali’s initial post-…

Fresh discrepancies have emerged in the initial post-mortem report of young businessman Mir Raza Ali, raising concerns that the investigation into his death could be compromised. According to medico-legal sources, several inconsistencies were identified after examining photographs of the body, prompting questions about the accuracy of the preliminary findings. Sources said the images showed a small gunshot wound on the lower back and a larger wound on the chest. They added that the injuries appeared inconsistent with the details recorded in the initial post-mortem report. The photographs also reportedly showed the fingers of the victim’s left hand tightly clenched around broken grass, while suspicious marks were observed on the right hand. Medico-legal officials said these details could be significant for the ongoing investigation. According to the sources, another visible injury was found beneath the victim’s chin, which was also not adequately addressed in the preliminary examination. The report further suggested that the body was approximately 24 to 36 hours old at the time it was examined. Sources familiar with the findings said the gunshot entry wound appeared larger than the exit wound in the report, while the photographs indicated the bullet had entered from the back and exited through the front. They stressed that these contradictions require further forensic review. Officials also noted that the body appeared swollen in the photographs and the face was severely disfigured. They said a detailed examination of the head could have helped determine the exact cause of the facial injuries and provided additional forensic evidence. The discrepancies have raised concerns that flaws in the initial post-mortem documentation may affect the direction and credibility of the investigation.
