Balochistan to bring 1.8 million out-of-school chi…

The Balochistan government has approved the implementation of a large-scale non-formal education programme aimed at bringing 1.8 million out-of-school children back into the education system.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by the provincial chief secretary, where officials reviewed plans to expand access to education for children who have been unable to attend formal schools due to various social and economic challenges.

Under the initiative, children who have missed out on formal education will be provided with alternative learning opportunities through a structured non-formal education system. The programme is designed to help them continue their studies and improve literacy across the province.

Officials said the project will be implemented over the next five years. For the current fiscal year, the provincial government has allocated Rs8 billion to launch and support the initiative.

The chief secretary said the programme will operate under the supervision of the Social Welfare Department, which will oversee its implementation and ensure educational services reach children in underserved communities.

Special priority will be given to children between the ages of 9 and 16, a group considered most vulnerable to dropping out of school or never enrolling in formal education.

The initiative is expected to expand educational access, reduce the number of out-of-school children, and improve learning opportunities for thousands of young people across Balochistan.

Unbeaten Pakistan seal CAVA volleyball title over Bangladesh

Pakistan wrapped up a truly dominant campaign by winning the Central Asian Volleyball Association Championship on Wednesday. The home side defeated Bangladesh in straight sets during the final, played at the Liaquat Gymnasium within the Pakistan Sports Complex. This victory extended Pakistan’s unbeaten record across the entire six-nation tournament, which also included Kazakhstan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan. Throughout the match, Pakistan looked in complete control. Their serving was powerful, their blocking well organized, and their attacking play sharp and consistent. Bangladesh struggled to find any rhythm against such a well-rounded performance. Pakistan took the opening set 25-20 before stepping things up even further in the second, winning it comfortably 25-16 through disciplined, coordinated play. Bangladesh showed some fight in the third set and briefly threatened a comeback. Pakistan, however, refused to let the momentum slip and closed out the match 25-20, sealing the championship in front of a jubilant home crowd. The win marked a perfect end to the tournament for Pakistan, who finished all seven matches unbeaten and did not drop a single set throughout the competition. Following this achievement, Pakistan climbed eight spots in the FIVB world rankings, moving up to 38th place globally. This also makes them the sixth-ranked team in Asia, sitting just behind Japan, Iran, Qatar, South Korea, and China. In the other major result of the day, Sri Lanka secured the bronze medal after a hard-fought five-set win over Uzbekistan in the third-place playoff. Kazakhstan finished the tournament in fifth position, while Nepal ended up at the bottom of the standings. Following the win, Pakistan Volleyball Federation chairman Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob offered his congratulations to the team. He praised the players, coaches, and support staff for their contribution to the victory, describing it as the result of consistent hard work and discipline. He also thanked everyone involved in organizing the event, including sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who helped make it a success. Federation president Sohail Khawar Mir echoed similar sentiments, calling the achievement a strong reflection of Pakistan’s talent and preparation. He pointed out how difficult it is to win an entire tournament without dropping a single set, calling it a rare and impressive feat. Sohail also praised Bangladesh’s performance throughout the event and thanked the other competing nations for making it a strong, competitive championship. He added that the tournament had helped grow the sport’s presence in the region while boosting Pakistan’s reputation as a reliable host for international sporting events.

Sam Smith reveals how Christian Cowan inspired new…

Sam Smith is entering a new musical era, and this time, love is at the center of it. The Grammy-winning singer recently opened up about their upcoming fifth studio album, Hazel Eyes, revealing that much of the record was inspired by their relationship with fiancé Christian Cowan. Smith discussed the deeply personal project during an appearance on The New Yorker Radio Hour on August 11. [WNYC](https://wnyc.org/browse/shows/episode/simplecast/0952c9d3-73c5-47c0-a19f-950b525afeb7?utm_source=chatgpt.com) For Smith, the new album represents a major change from their earlier work. Their breakthrough album, In the Lonely Hour, became famous for songsa about heartbreak and unrequited love. This time, however, Smith is writing from a place of happiness and mutual love. The singer explained that Cowan has been extremely supportive throughout the creative process. Smith described the fashion designer as someone who encouraged them while they worked on the record. The album is especially personal because Smith considers it a love letter to Cowan and the relationship they are building together. However, they also admitted that sharing such intimate feelings through music can be difficult. Smith said there was a balance between deciding how much of their relationship to reveal and protecting something that remains private. That tension became part of the process of creating the album. Even the album title carries a connection to Cowan. Hazel Eyes is named after the designer’s eye color, making the title itself a subtle tribute to Smith’s fiancé. The record is scheduled for release on August 21. [People\.com](https://people.com/sam-smith-says-new-album-is-love-letter-to-fiance-christian-cowan-12058496?utm_source=chatgpt.com) One of the most meaningful songs on the project is “Everlasting Love.” Smith began writing the track shortly before their first date with Cowan, making it particularly significant in the story of their relationship. The song also represents a new experience for Smith because it focuses on love that is returned rather than one-sided. [People\.com](https://people.com/sam-smith-says-new-album-is-love-letter-to-fiance-christian-cowan-12058496?utm_source=chatgpt.com) Smith and Cowan have been together for several years and confirmed their engagement in July 2026. Their relationship has increasingly become an important source of inspiration for Smith’s art, while the couple has continued to protect many details of their private life. [People\.com](https://people.com/sam-smith-is-engaged-to-christian-cowan-11968083?utm_source=chatgpt.com) The upcoming album therefore marks more than a new chapter in Smith’s music career. It reflects a different emotional perspective, one shaped by stability, joy and being loved in return. After years of singing about heartbreak, Smith is now turning their happiest relationship into music. And with Cowan’s support throughout the process, Hazel Eyes promises to offer fans a more intimate and hopeful side of the singer.

AJK PML-N chief rejects PPP rigging allegations, c…

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Shah Ghulam Qadir has strongly rejected the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) allegations of election rigging, describing the claims as “baseless” and insisting that the election results genuinely reflect the will of the people. Addressing party office-bearers and workers from across Azad Jammu and Kashmir, as well as representatives of Kashmiri refugees from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) residing in Pakistan, Qadir congratulated supporters on what he described as a decisive electoral victory for the PML-N. He said the party was preparing to establish a stable government in AJK under the leadership of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. According to Qadir, the upcoming government will focus on accelerating development projects and improving public welfare across the region. Highlighting the party’s previous tenure, Qadir said that infrastructure and development initiatives undertaken by the PML-N in AJK demonstrate its commitment to serving the people. He added that the party remains determined to address public concerns and deliver essential services at the grassroots level. With the final phase of polling in Rawalakot Division scheduled for August 10, Qadir appealed to party workers to maintain peace, cooperate with election authorities, and help ensure a smooth electoral process. He expressed confidence that voters in Rawalakot would extend their support to the PML-N, predicting a strong electoral performance in the division. Responding to criticism from opposition parties, Qadir reiterated that the elections in Mirpur Division, Muzaffarabad Division, and the 12 refugee constituencies reserved for Kashmiris from IIOJK settled in Pakistan were conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner. He argued that the election results clearly demonstrated public confidence in the PML-N. Qadir also criticised the PPP, suggesting that the party should focus on addressing governance challenges in Sindh rather than questioning the electoral process in AJK. The meeting was attended by several senior PML-N leaders, including AJK Legislative Assembly member Raja Muhammad Riasat Khan, former minister Sardar Farooq Sikandar, Kashmir Council member Malik Muhammad Hanif, and other party officials, who congratulated Qadir on the party’s performance in the recently concluded phases of the AJK elections.

Preity Zinta faces backlash over post on Delhi student protest

Bollywood actor Preity Zinta has come under heavy criticism on social media after commenting on the ongoing student protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, organised by the Cockroach Janta Party. The actor shared her views on X, saying that while it is important to stand with students and support educational reforms that can positively shape the future of young people, it is equally important to ensure that peaceful demonstrations are not taken over by individuals or groups seeking to create unrest or change the purpose of the movement. In her post, Zinta questioned whether hostile elements, both within and outside the country, were attempting to exploit the anger and frustration of students. She said the amount of hostility visible on social media had made her wonder if such groups had already begun using the students’ concerns for their own agendas. She further stated that she has always believed in hard work and equality, adding that these values should never be compromised. Zinta also expressed confidence in India’s democratic system and said she hoped both sides would engage in meaningful dialogue to resolve the issue. According to her, constructive discussions could help defeat divisive agendas while ensuring a brighter future for both the country’s youth and its democracy. Her remarks quickly gained widespread attention online, with the post spreading rapidly across social media platforms. However, instead of receiving broad support, the actor found herself at the centre of intense criticism from many users who questioned both the timing and the content of her statement. Several social media users alleged that Zinta’s comments appeared to reflect the government’s narrative rather than an independent opinion. Some accused her of sharing what they described as a “scripted” message, claiming it echoed official talking points instead of addressing the concerns raised by protesting students. Others questioned why several celebrities, who had previously remained silent on public issues, were now speaking about the student movement. Critics argued that public figures should express their own genuine views instead of appearing to defend any political position. Some users also suggested that celebrities should either speak independently on matters of public concern or choose to remain silent, rather than posting statements that they believe are intended to influence public perception. These reactions led to heated discussions across X and other social media platforms, where supporters and critics debated the actor’s remarks. Despite the criticism, many users also defended Zinta’s right to express her personal opinion, arguing that public figures should be free to comment on national issues without facing personal attacks. The debate highlighted the growing divide on social media over the ongoing student protests and the role celebrities play in shaping public conversations. As online reactions continue to pour in, Zinta has not issued any further clarification regarding her post. The discussion surrounding her remarks remains active, with thousands of users continuing to share differing opinions on the controversy and the wider debate over the student movement in New Delhi.
