Pakistan wrapped up a truly dominant campaign by winning the Central Asian Volleyball Association Championship on Wednesday. The home side defeated Bangladesh in straight sets during the final, played at the Liaquat Gymnasium within the Pakistan Sports Complex.

This victory extended Pakistan’s unbeaten record across the entire six-nation tournament, which also included Kazakhstan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Uzbekistan.

Throughout the match, Pakistan looked in complete control. Their serving was powerful, their blocking well organized, and their attacking play sharp and consistent. Bangladesh struggled to find any rhythm against such a well-rounded performance. Pakistan took the opening set 25-20 before stepping things up even further in the second, winning it comfortably 25-16 through disciplined, coordinated play.

Bangladesh showed some fight in the third set and briefly threatened a comeback. Pakistan, however, refused to let the momentum slip and closed out the match 25-20, sealing the championship in front of a jubilant home crowd.

The win marked a perfect end to the tournament for Pakistan, who finished all seven matches unbeaten and did not drop a single set throughout the competition.

Following this achievement, Pakistan climbed eight spots in the FIVB world rankings, moving up to 38th place globally. This also makes them the sixth-ranked team in Asia, sitting just behind Japan, Iran, Qatar, South Korea, and China.

In the other major result of the day, Sri Lanka secured the bronze medal after a hard-fought five-set win over Uzbekistan in the third-place playoff. Kazakhstan finished the tournament in fifth position, while Nepal ended up at the bottom of the standings.

Following the win, Pakistan Volleyball Federation chairman Chaudhry Mohammad Yaqoob offered his congratulations to the team. He praised the players, coaches, and support staff for their contribution to the victory, describing it as the result of consistent hard work and discipline. He also thanked everyone involved in organizing the event, including sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who helped make it a success.

Federation president Sohail Khawar Mir echoed similar sentiments, calling the achievement a strong reflection of Pakistan’s talent and preparation. He pointed out how difficult it is to win an entire tournament without dropping a single set, calling it a rare and impressive feat.

Sohail also praised Bangladesh’s performance throughout the event and thanked the other competing nations for making it a strong, competitive championship. He added that the tournament had helped grow the sport’s presence in the region while boosting Pakistan’s reputation as a reliable host for international sporting events.

The committee questioned how a housing society created for Senate employees could remain outside the control of its own members. Senator Saifullah Abro directed authorities to take action against anyone found illegally managing the society and said the rights of Senate employees must be protected. “Only the legitimate members of the society should control its affairs,” the committee observed while demanding transparency and accountability. Officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed the committee that a criminal case had already been registered against the management of the Senate Housing Society on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. However, the committee stated the matter required further investigation and directed FIA officials to provide a fresh report on the society’s current management within one week. The committee members expressed concern over reports that employees who were supposed to benefit from the housing project had not yet received possession of their plots. They questioned why the employees were still facing difficulties despite the society being established for their welfare. The committee made it clear that no individual or private group would be allowed to control the housing society if they had no legal authority to do so. Senator Saifullah Abro said strict legal action would be taken against anyone involved in unlawful management or activities. At one city hospital, several upper floors, including sections dedicated to pediatric care, collapsed inward, trapping some patients inside and forcing hospital staff to treat roughly 600 additional patients outdoors on a street littered with debris, according to hospital director Irne Torres Castro, who spoke to a Colombian television network. That same city saw some of the earthquake’s most extensive destruction, with entire residential blocks reduced to piles of concrete and twisted metal. Video circulating online captured buildings shaking violently as residents fled into the streets, while separate footage showed a regional airport swaying dramatically during the quake as large sections of ceiling came down around people sheltering inside. Among the most widely shared images online is footage showing the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary shaking and partially collapsing. The cathedral, built in the 1920s, holds the distinction of being Colombia’s tallest cathedral and ranks among the highest neo Gothic churches anywhere in the Americas. The disaster struck just days after Abelardo De La Espriella was sworn in as Colombia’s president, immediately confronting his new administration with a major crisis. The earthquake also comes with memories still fresh of a pair of devastating earthquakes that struck neighboring Venezuela in June. Colombia’s national government has declared a state of emergency and mobilized the military, police and specialized rescue units to lead recovery operations, while accepting offers of international assistance as the search for survivors continues. The disaster adds to a string of major seismic events across the region in recent months, underscoring the ongoing vulnerability of Andean nations to powerful earthquakes and the strain such disasters place on emergency infrastructure even in areas with established disaster response systems.
