Sri Lanka Women began their three-match T20 International series against Pakistan Women with an impressive six-wicket victory in the opening match played in Dambulla on Friday.

After winning the toss and batting first, Pakistan Women posted a competitive total of 176 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. The visitors produced an aggressive batting display, with key contributions from the top and middle order helping them set a challenging target of 177 runs.

Despite the strong total, Sri Lanka Women responded confidently with an outstanding batting performance. The hosts maintained a steady scoring rate throughout the innings and successfully chased down the target in just 19 overs, losing only four wickets in the process.

Sri Lanka’s batters dominated the chase with positive stroke play and well-built partnerships, keeping the required run rate under control from the outset.     Palwasha accuses PML-N of Kashmir election rigging

    Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Palwasha Khan has criticised the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) over the recent political developments in Kashmir. Khan said those who had won what she called a “fixed match” in Kashmir should not lecture others about the public mandate. In a statement, the PPP senator alleged that attempts were made to manipulate the electoral process in Kashmir. She claimed that re-polling was conducted repeatedly in some areas. According to Khan, these actions were part of an alleged attempt to influence the election results. She said the PPP had formally raised objections over the process. Khan said her party had submitted complaints to the relevant authorities. She added that the complaints were supported by evidence. The PPP senator also made allegations against PML-N candidates who won seats in Kashmir. She claimed that some successful candidates could not even visit their own constituencies. Khan said the political situation in Kashmir should be judged on the basis of facts on the ground. She rejected what she described as attempts to present the election results as a clear reflection of public opinion. She also turned her criticism towards the political situation in Punjab. Khan said Lahore should not be treated as a reflection of the entire province. “Lahore is not the whole of Punjab,” she said. The PPP leader urged political leaders to move beyond Lahore and assess the situation in other parts of Punjab. She said the realities outside the provincial capital were different. Khan also claimed that people in Punjab were living under fear because of the Criminal Case Department, or CCD. She said the situation had created concern among citizens. The senator criticised the alleged use of the CCD and said the PPP would oppose any move that could increase its role in Kashmir. “We will not allow Kashmir to be handed over to the CCD,” Khan said. According to reports, BTS and HYBE view the changes as unfair at a time when the group is considered one of the strongest contenders for major Grammy honours. Addressing the issue, HYBE released a statement explaining its concerns over the reported rule changes. “It is difficult to accept that this Grammy’s screening change was made when BTS is most likely to win the main prize.” Despite expressing disappointment, the company stressed that BTS’s decision does not represent an official boycott by HYBE itself. “It’s not a boycott at the company level.” An official further clarified the company’s position, saying, “In the case of other artists, if they are willing to participate, they will proceed with the exhibition as scheduled.” HYBE also revealed that BTS carefully considered whether to participate before reaching their final decision. “BTS also thought about whether to participate until the last minute of this announcement, but they made this decision with the idea that a cautious move is necessary for the sake of the music industry and K-pop as a whole.” According to the statement, the group’s decision was made after considering what they believe are broader implications for K-pop artists rather than focusing solely on their own chances at the awards.     Nine cops martyred in Hangu terrorist attack

    PESHAWAR: Nine police personnel, including DSP Diyar Khan, were martyred and 28 others injured after terrorists attacked the Khazina Banda police check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district late Wednesday night. According to KP Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed, the attackers launched a coordinated assault while officers were on duty. Police reinforcements rushed to the scene but came under an ambush, damaging an armoured personnel carrier. Police retaliated strongly, killing 15 terrorists and injuring several others during an intense gun battle. The IG praised the bravery of the officers and vowed that operations against terrorists would continue across the province. In a separate incident, terrorists also attacked a police check post in Peshawar’s Adezai area. Police returned fire, forcing the attackers to flee without causing any casualties. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the Hangu attack, paid tribute to the martyred officers, and expressed condolences to their families. He also briefed President Asif Ali Zardari on the country’s security situation, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The president praised the sacrifices of the security forces and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to eradicating terrorism.

    Texas cracks down on birth tourism

    DALLAS: Texas has launched one of its toughest crackdowns yet on birth tourism. Governor Greg Abbott signed Executive Order GA-57, directing state agencies to investigate hospitals, medical facilities and individuals suspected of helping foreign nationals travel to Texas to give birth and secure U.S. citizenship for their children. The order could affect hospitals, doctors and healthcare providers, as well as visitors from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and other South Asian countries who travel to the United States on visit visas. Announcing the order, Abbott said, “American citizenship is not for sale,” and vowed that Texas would not tolerate activities that the state believes exploit the U.S. immigration system. The executive order directs six state agencies, including the Texas Department of State Health Services, the Health and Human Services Commission, the Texas Medical Board and the Texas Board of Nursing, to investigate suspected birth tourism-related activities within the healthcare sector. The agencies can also share information with federal authorities and recommend actions such as suspending or revoking professional licenses and removing healthcare providers from state contracts when necessary. The move follows Abbott’s earlier directive to the Health and Human Services Commission to investigate hospitals accused of advertising maternity packages specifically for foreign women. State officials later referred the cases of two Texas hospitals to the attorney general after reports emerged about advertisements in Mexico promoting maternity services for pregnant foreign women near the U.S.-Mexico border. The advertisements reportedly listed normal delivery packages at $3,950 and C-section procedures at $5,525.
