Four bodies recovered after Broad Peak avalanche

The bodies of four climbers have been recovered after a deadly avalanche struck Broad Peak, the world’s 12th-highest mountain, located in Pakistan. Rescue teams are continuing an extensive search for the remaining missing climbers in difficult weather and terrain.

The avalanche hit the mountain during the climbing season, leaving around 10 mountaineers missing. The victims include climbers from Nepal, Pakistan, China and the United States, highlighting the international nature of the expedition.

Search and rescue teams remain on the mountain despite harsh conditions. The operation is being carried out in a challenging high-altitude environment, where steep slopes, freezing temperatures and unstable snow have made rescue efforts extremely difficult.

Tourism Minister Nikk Nam Karim said every possible effort is being made to locate the missing climbers. He said rescue teams are working continuously to search the affected area and provide assistance to those involved in the incident.

The minister added that the Tourism Department is supporting the rescue mission by providing logistical assistance. Authorities are coordinating with rescue teams and other relevant agencies to ensure the search operation continues without interruption.

Broad Peak, which rises to more than 8,000 metres in the Karakoram mountain range, is one of Pakistan’s most challenging peaks and attracts climbers from around the world every year. However, the mountain is also known for its unpredictable weather and avalanche risks, particularly during the peak climbing season.

Officials have not yet released the identities of the recovered climbers.

Lucy Davis reveals stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis publicly

Lucy Davis, best known for her role as Dawn Tinsley in the original British version of The Office, has revealed that she has been living with stage 4 breast cancer. The actress shared the deeply personal news on Tuesday, August 11, explaining that she had kept her diagnosis private for around a year and a half. Davis said she now felt ready to speak publicly about her condition and use her experience to encourage others to take changes in their bodies seriously. According to Davis, the cancer has spread to several parts of her body, including her spine, right hip and ribs. She described the illness as incurable and said that it had progressed to a point where chemotherapy was no longer an option. Reflecting on how she first discovered the cancer, Davis explained that she initially noticed what felt like a very small hard area rather than an obvious lump. Because the change was so subtle, she nearly decided not to have it examined. Her experience led her to issue an important message to her followers, urging them not to dismiss unusual changes or symptoms. She encouraged people to have anything concerning checked by a medical professional, even if it appears minor. Despite her diagnosis, Davis said she is not frightened about what lies ahead and has found a sense of peace with her situation. She also spoke about the emotional impact her illness has had on her loved ones, acknowledging that the experience may be more difficult for her family than it is for her. Davis also made it clear that she intends to continue working for as long as she is able. She said she remains perfectly capable of working and described acting as one of the greatest joys of her life. The actress rose to fame through The Office, the acclaimed British mockumentary created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. She portrayed Dawn Tinsley, the witty and kind-hearted receptionist who became romantically involved with Tim Canterbury, played by Martin Freeman. The series originally ran from 2001 to 2003 and recently marked its 25th anniversary. Following her success on The Office, Davis built an impressive career across television and film. She appeared in the 2004 comedy-horror movie Shaun of the Dead, where she played Dianne. She later took on the role of Etta Candy in the 2017 superhero film Wonder Woman. Davis also became widely recognized by a new generation of viewers for portraying Hilda Spellman in Netflix’s The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. More recently, she appeared as Eva in the Disney Channel action-comedy series The Villains of Valley View. While Davis’s diagnosis has brought a deeply personal chapter of her life into the public eye, her decision to continue pursuing her career reflects the important role acting continues to play in her life. Her message about checking unusual changes also serves as a reminder that early medical attention can be important when something does not feel right.

Government assures uninterrupted fuel supply amid …

Sources in Pakistan’s Petroleum Division have stated that the government is committed to ensuring the uninterrupted supply of petroleum products across the country. The assurance comes amid ongoing discussions with representatives of the Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association regarding fuel pricing and dealers’ profit margins. According to official sources, the government is working to determine petroleum product prices through a transparent and fair mechanism. Officials emphasized that the Ministry of Petroleum remains open to hearing constructive and practical suggestions from all stakeholders involved in the petroleum sector. They stressed that maintaining transparency in the pricing process is a key priority and that the government welcomes proposals that can contribute to a balanced and sustainable policy. Sources further revealed that the Federal Minister for Petroleum held a meeting with office-bearers of the Petrol Pump Owners Association, during which he listened carefully to their concerns and demands. The minister reportedly gave the representatives ample time to present their viewpoints and assured them that the government was willing to consider reasonable proposals in the interest of both consumers and fuel dealers. However, according to Petroleum Division sources, the discussions failed to produce the desired outcome because representatives of the association allegedly adopted an uncompromising approach during the meeting. Officials claimed that the association’s leadership insisted on having its demands accepted without presenting convincing arguments or practical justification. The sources stated that despite the government’s willingness to engage in dialogue, the association remained firm on its position and showed little flexibility in the negotiations. The Petroleum Division also said that the representatives of the Petrol Pump Owners Association eventually walked out of the meeting on their own before the discussions had been concluded. Officials maintained that the government had not ended the talks and was still prepared to continue negotiations in order to resolve outstanding issues through mutual understanding. According to the sources, the Petroleum Minister has already assured petrol pump dealers that the government is prepared to review their profit margins. The minister acknowledged that the concerns of fuel retailers deserve careful consideration and indicated that the issue of dealer commissions would be examined as part of the ongoing consultation process. Government officials reiterated that while they are open to discussions with all stakeholders, any decision regarding fuel prices or dealer margins must be made in the broader public interest. They emphasized that ensuring a stable supply of petroleum products remains the government’s top priority and that consumers should not face unnecessary disruptions because of disagreements between authorities and industry representatives. The Petroleum Division further noted that transparent policymaking requires consultation with all parties, including oil marketing companies, petrol pump owners, and other industry stakeholders. Officials expressed hope that future meetings would take place in a more constructive atmosphere and lead to a mutually acceptable solution. The ongoing discussions come at a time when petroleum prices remain a matter of significant public concern due to their impact on transportation costs, inflation, and the overall economy. Fuel dealers have repeatedly called for higher profit margins, arguing that rising operational costs have made it increasingly difficult to run their businesses profitably. Despite the differences that emerged during the latest meeting, government sources insisted that dialogue remains the preferred way forward. They reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining an uninterrupted fuel supply, ensuring transparency in the pricing mechanism, and continuing consultations with petrol pump owners until an acceptable solution is reached that protects both consumers and businesses.

Mahira Khan faces backlash over Gaza fundraiser appearance

LONDON: Pakistani actor Mahira Khan has faced criticism on social media after attending a fundraising event in London in support of Palestinians affected by the Gaza crisis. Khan appeared at the event in a peach outfit by designer Saniya Maskatiya. Videos and pictures from the gathering quickly circulated online. Many people praised the actor’s appearance and her interaction with attendees. However, some social media users questioned her participation in the event. Critics focused on Khan’s previous associations with international brands. Some users referred to her work with L’Oréal and Pepsi while discussing her public support for Palestine. They questioned whether her commercial endorsements were consistent with her stance on the Gaza crisis. The format of the event also attracted criticism. Some users felt that the gathering appeared to focus partly on Khan’s career and public image rather than concentrating entirely on humanitarian fundraising. Videos from the event showed Khan engaging with guests and discussing different aspects of her professional life. She also participated in activities on stage. These moments prompted mixed reactions online. Some users argued that a humanitarian event should remain focused on the suffering of Palestinians and efforts to support those affected by the conflict. Others defended Khan’s participation. They said celebrities can use their public platforms to raise awareness and support humanitarian causes. The debate has also highlighted wider questions about celebrity activism. Many public figures support humanitarian campaigns while maintaining commercial partnerships with major international companies. Social media users often scrutinise these relationships. The discussion can become particularly intense when the causes involve politically sensitive international conflicts. Khan has remained an influential figure in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. She has built a large following through her television and film projects. Her public appearances also regularly attract significant attention. Her fashion choices, professional projects and social activities frequently become topics of discussion online. The latest controversy is therefore not limited to her appearance at the London fundraiser. It has also sparked a broader debate about the responsibilities of celebrities who publicly support humanitarian causes. Supporters believe Khan’s presence can help draw attention to the Palestinian cause. Critics, meanwhile, want greater consistency between celebrity activism and commercial endorsements.

Brooke Nader and Taron Egerton call it quits after…

Model Brooke Nader and actor Taron Egerton have reportedly ended their relationship after dating for around four months. The pair, who first sparked romance rumors in March, have decided to go their separate ways, with sources saying the split was amicable and without any major drama. According to Us Weekly, an insider confirmed on Monday that it was Nader who chose to end the relationship. “Their relationship was casual, but Brooke ended things with him,” the source told the publication. The insider added that there are no hard feelings between the two, suggesting the romance simply ran its course. Nader, 29, and Egerton, 36, were first linked earlier this year after they were spotted spending time together in public. Their romance quickly attracted attention from fans, as both stars had recently entered new chapters in their personal lives. Although they never publicly discussed their relationship in detail, they were seen together on several occasions, fueling speculation that their connection was becoming more serious. Despite the growing interest, the couple largely kept their romance away from the spotlight. Unlike many celebrity pairs who frequently share their relationships on social media, Nader and Egerton preferred to maintain a low profile. Their decision to keep things private made the reported breakup all the more surprising for fans who had been following their relationship. Sources close to the former couple say their romance was always relaxed rather than deeply committed. While they enjoyed spending time together, they were reportedly focused on their individual careers and busy schedules. Those close to them insist the breakup was not caused by a major disagreement or betrayal but was simply the result of realizing they were better off moving in different directions. Nader has continued to make headlines with her successful modeling career, fashion appearances and growing influence in the entertainment industry. Egerton, meanwhile, remains busy with several acting projects following acclaimed performances in films such as Rocketman, Tetris and the Netflix thriller Carry-On. Both stars have demanding professional commitments that often require extensive travel and long filming schedules. Neither Nader nor Egerton has publicly commented on the reported split. As is often the case with celebrity relationships, both appear to be focusing on their careers rather than discussing their personal lives. Although their romance lasted only a few months, fans appreciated seeing the pair together and wished them well. For now, the two are said to have parted on good terms, bringing a quiet end to what insiders describe as a casual but enjoyable relationship. With both stars continuing to thrive professionally, attention is now turning to their upcoming projects and what lies ahead in their personal lives.
