Pakistani journalist Murtaza Ali Shah was assaulted and injured while covering a protest march in central London.

According to reports, Shah was attacked while reporting on a march organised by supporters of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which began at Hyde Park and proceeded towards the Pakistan High Commission.

A large number of British Kashmiris gathered at Hyde Park before the march to express concern over the deteriorating situation in Azad Kashmir. Protesters called for an end to violence, the restoration of fundamental rights, and the resumption of dialogue.

Eyewitnesses and videos showed that Shah came under attack as the march approached the Pakistan High Commission. While reporting from the scene, he was allegedly kicked and punched from both the front and behind by at least three individuals.

A crowd quickly surrounded the journalist, escalating tensions until Metropolitan Police officers, protest organisers, and other participants intervened to prevent the situation from worsening.

Police later escorted Shah away from the crowd and ensured his safety.

According to reports, when Shah returned to the Pakistan High Commission to continue his reporting, members of the same group allegedly attempted to harass him again.

However, she questioned why the reference would be considered offensive if a person themselves used the term “cockroach” to describe their identity or behavior. Kangana further rejected the interpretation that she had compared all young people to a gutter. She said that discussing problems such as drug use, betting, gambling or dark-web activities among a particular section of young people does not mean that the entire younger generation should be viewed in the same way. She questioned why comments about a specific group or certain women were being presented as a generalized criticism of all young people. The clarification comes amid continuing debate over the responsibilities that accompany personal freedom, particularly among young people. Kangana maintained that her intention was to highlight certain behaviors and social problems rather than criticize an entire generation. The controversy has once again drawn attention to Kangana’s outspoken public statements, which frequently generate strong reactions online and in political and entertainment circles.     ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said the government will continue to take responsibility for the health and medical care of PTI founder Imran Khan. Speaking to the media, the minister said the government was already providing the former prime minister with the best available healthcare facilities. He said these facilities were provided without the PTI having to make any formal appeal. Chaudhry said the government was also praying for Imran Khan’s good health. He stressed that the state would continue to fulfil its responsibility regarding his medical treatment. The minister said the government would implement the Supreme Court’s decision regarding Imran Khan in letter and spirit. The Supreme Court has ordered that Imran Khan be shifted to a private hospital for medical treatment. Chaudhry also criticised what he described as the PTI’s changing position on the judiciary. He said it was encouraging to see PTI members praising the courts. However, he questioned the party’s approach to judicial decisions. He said the judiciary was praised when verdicts went in the PTI’s favour, but faced criticism when decisions went against the party. He maintained that Pakistan’s judiciary was independent and was delivering decisions on merit. The federal minister said the courts remained the legal route for obtaining relief and securing release. He noted that people had received relief through judicial decisions in the past. According to Chaudhry, the prime minister could not use executive authority to act against a court order. He said the government was bound to respect and implement judicial decisions. The minister also spoke about ongoing political contacts with the opposition. He said the opposition leaders involved in the process were not members of the PTI. However, they had the confidence of Imran Khan, according to him. Chaudhry said the government had made its position clear. The opposition leadership taking part in talks should have the confidence of the PTI leadership. He said the government did not want a situation in which it was engaged in negotiations while PTI leaders continued issuing statements against the process. The minister welcomed the PTI parliamentary party’s expression of confidence in the opposition leadership involved in the talks. He further said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was expected to respond to the opposition leader’s letter within one or two days. After the response is sent, the venue for a joint meeting will be decided, he added.

According to the inspection team, the inquiry established misconduct on the part of the senior civil judge. The investigation was carried out in detail by Inquiry Officer Justice Shamsuddin Abbasi, who examined the allegations and submitted his findings after completing the proceedings. The inspection team said the competent authority had initially recommended the judge’s dismissal from service. However, after conducting the final hearing and reviewing all available facts and evidence, the Chief Justice decided to impose the penalty of compulsory retirement instead of outright dismissal. Officials said the decision was made after completing all legal and administrative procedures related to the disciplinary case. The punishment was finalized following a comprehensive review of the inquiry report and the recommendations submitted by the relevant authorities. The inspection team further stated that the Sindh High Court’s order has come into immediate effect. As a result, Senior Civil Judge Ayaz Ali has been compulsorily retired from judicial service in accordance with the court’s disciplinary decision. The action reflects the judiciary’s internal accountability process, under which complaints of misconduct against judicial officers are investigated through formal inquiries before disciplinary measures are taken. The latest order concludes the proceedings against the senior civil judge and has been enforced with immediate effect.

    THE HAGUE: Ratko Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb military commander convicted of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity over some of the worst atrocities of the Bosnian war, has died at the age of 84 while serving a life sentence in The Hague. Mladic died in a United Nations detention facility in the Netherlands after suffering several strokes and a prolonged deterioration in his health, Serbian state broadcaster RTS reported. A UN official also confirmed his death. His death was reported on Thursday, August 27, and comes more than three decades after he became one of the most notorious figures of the 1992-95 Bosnian War. Known internationally as the “Butcher of Bosnia,” Mladic commanded Bosnian Serb forces during the conflict that followed the breakup of Yugoslavia. His name became inseparable from the 1995 Srebrenica massacre, when more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys were killed after the town had been designated a UN-protected safe area. The killings at Srebrenica are regarded as the worst atrocity in Europe since the Second World War. International judges later concluded that Mladic played a central role in the operation, including the forcible removal of civilians and the execution of thousands of men and boys. The massacre was followed by attempts to conceal evidence, with victims buried in mass graves and, in some cases, their remains later moved to secondary locations. Mladic was indicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in 1995 but remained at large for another 16 years. He was finally arrested in Serbia in May 2011 and transferred to The Hague. In 2017, the tribunal convicted him of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes and sentenced him to life imprisonment. His appeal was rejected in 2021, leaving the life sentence intact. Throughout his trial and appeal, Mladic denied responsibility for the crimes and repeatedly attacked the tribunal’s legitimacy. He remained an admired figure among some Serbian nationalists, even as survivors and victims’ families continued to regard him as a symbol of the violence inflicted on Bosnia’s Muslim population. In his final years, Mladic’s family and lawyers repeatedly sought permission for him to receive treatment in Serbia or be released on humanitarian grounds because of his worsening health. Those requests were rejected. RTS reported that a recent request to allow him to spend his final days at home was also turned down. His death closes the life of one of the most infamous commanders of the Balkan wars, but the wounds left by Srebrenica and the wider Bosnian conflict remain deeply embedded in the region’s history.
