Pakistan has welcomed Kuwait’s ratification of the bilateral defence cooperation agreement, describing the move as a significant milestone in strengthening defence relations and strategic cooperation between the two friendly nations.

In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the ratification reflects the long-standing partnership between Pakistan and Kuwait and reinforces their shared commitment to expanding defence and security collaboration.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, defence relations between Pakistan and Kuwait are built on a strong foundation established during the 1980s. The agreement is expected to enhance cooperation in several key areas, including military training, professional military education, joint exercises, and the exchange of expertise between the armed forces of both countries.

The spokesperson noted that the agreement provides a comprehensive institutional framework designed to promote closer coordination and sustained engagement between the defence establishments of Pakistan and Kuwait. The framework is intended to strengthen institutional links while creating new opportunities for collaboration in defence-related fields.

Pakistan also expressed its commitment to working closely with Kuwait to ensure the effective implementation of all provisions outlined in the agreement. The Foreign Office stated that both countries would continue coordinating on the execution of the pact in accordance with its agreed terms.

Officials emphasized that the growing defence partnership is based on mutual trust, shared interests, and long-standing institutional cooperation. The agreement is expected to further expand bilateral military relations while supporting broader strategic objectives for both nations.

Beyond strengthening military cooperation, Pakistan believes the agreement will contribute positively to regional peace, security, and stability. The Foreign Office highlighted that enhanced defence collaboration between Islamabad and Kuwait City reflects a common desire to promote security cooperation and maintain constructive relations in the region.

The bilateral defence cooperation agreement was originally signed in June 2023 as part of ongoing efforts to deepen strategic engagement between the two countries. Kuwait’s formal ratification now paves the way for the agreement’s full implementation, allowing both sides to advance cooperation through structured military exchanges, joint training initiatives, and institutional partnerships.

The latest development underscores the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Kuwait and signals a renewed commitment to strengthening defence ties in support of shared security interests and regional stability. Both governments are expected to continue expanding cooperation in the years ahead through regular dialogue and practical defence collaboration.

    Pakistan’s military has categorically ruled out any future negotiations with terrorist groups, declaring that security forces will continue operations until militancy is eliminated. The announcement was made by Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, during a detailed media briefing on the country’s security situation and ongoing counterterrorism campaign. The military spokesperson said there was no possibility of holding talks with terrorists. He stressed that the state would not negotiate with those involved in violence against Pakistan. According to him, terrorists have only two choices: surrender before the law or face decisive action by the country’s security forces. Lt Gen Chaudhry said the armed forces would continue to engage directly with the people of Balochistan instead of individuals or groups involved in violence. He emphasized that the people of the province are the true stakeholders and that the military remains committed to protecting their lives and supporting their development. He also criticized certain influential elites and tribal leaders, claiming they had failed to promote the welfare of ordinary people. According to him, some powerful groups do not want children from poor families to progress through education and development. The military spokesperson further alleged that the Taliban administration in Afghanistan was providing support to terrorist groups carrying out attacks inside Pakistan. He said cross-border militancy remains one of the country’s major security challenges and continues to complicate efforts to maintain peace. Rejecting claims that the security situation in Balochistan is rapidly deteriorating, Lt Gen Chaudhry said a coordinated propaganda campaign was being carried out to create a false impression about conditions in the province. He maintained that while security challenges exist, the state is actively responding through intelligence-based operations and law enforcement measures. Speaking about Balochistan, he said the province’s unique geography presents operational challenges. Its vast territory, scattered population, and long distances between security posts require extensive coordination and resources. He added that security forces are dealing not only with terrorism but also with organized criminal activities, including drug trafficking, fuel smuggling, robbery, and other illegal networks that threaten stability. Addressing the issue of missing persons, the military spokesperson said the relevant commission had received hundreds of complaints. However, he noted that investigations had revealed that some individuals listed as missing were later found to have been killed during security operations, while others had joined militant organizations and were living in terrorist camps. Lt Gen Chaudhry presented detailed statistics on the country’s counterterrorism campaign. He said security forces have carried out 40,348 intelligence-based operations across Pakistan during the current year. These operations resulted in the killing of 2,084 confirmed terrorists, averaging approximately 10 militants eliminated every day. He added that security forces conduct nearly 194 operations daily as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remained the main focus of these operations, with 1,971 intelligence-based missions conducted in the province alone. The military also shared figures regarding casualties suffered during the ongoing campaign. According to Lt Gen Chaudhry, 819 people embraced martyrdom during the year. These included 303 personnel of the Pakistan Army, 194 members of law enforcement agencies, and 322 civilians who lost their lives in terrorist attacks and security-related incidents. The ISPR chief further revealed that 28 suicide attacks had been recorded across Pakistan during the current year. He claimed Afghan nationals were involved in the recent suicide attacks in Tank and Karachi, describing the incidents as evidence of continued cross-border terrorist involvement. Highlighting the importance of national unity, Lt Gen Chaudhry said Pakistan’s Constitution and legal system apply equally to every citizen. He stressed that loyalty to the state is a fundamental responsibility and said national peace, political stability, and economic development depend on a strong and secure Pakistan.

    Petrol, Diesel prices rise as govt announces fresh…

    ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), citing adjustments under the country’s petroleum pricing mechanism. According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy, the price of petrol has gone up by 45 paisa per litre, while high-speed diesel has become Rs1.16 more expensive per litre. Following the latest revision, petrol will now cost Rs325.43 per litre, compared with the previous rate of Rs324.98. The price of high-speed diesel has risen from Rs382.79 to Rs383.95 per litre. The revised rates were determined after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) reviewed petroleum product prices in line with the government’s pricing framework, which takes international oil market movements and other relevant costs into account. The latest increase comes shortly after the previous price review, when the government raised the HSD rate by 54 paisa per litre while reducing petrol prices by 94 paisa per litre. The new prices will apply from Friday, August 14, as the government continues its periodic adjustments to petroleum rates in response to changes in global energy markets and domestic cost factors.

He also highlighted the broader importance of the Champions Cup, saying the competition allowed Pakistan to test players in competitive conditions rather than relying solely on domestic performances. “The tournament has been very good,” Shaheen said, noting that several close matches had provided valuable experience. According to the left-arm pacer, the event also helped the team management gauge players’ fitness levels and evaluate the available talent pool.
