Ryan Reynolds fuels Deadpool comeback rumours at Comic-Con

Ryan Reynolds thrilled Marvel fans with a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, sparking fresh speculation that Deadpool could feature in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

The 49-year-old actor made an unexpected entrance during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation on Saturday, delighting the audience by appearing in an unusual version of Deadpool’s iconic costume. Instead of the character’s signature red-and-black suit, Reynolds wore a denim outfit, playfully calling it a “Canadian tuxedo.”

Remaining fully in character, Reynolds introduced himself as “Ricky” while pretending to be an enthusiastic fan attending the panel.

“Huge fan, look at that cast. I’m not wearing the Doom mask over this mask because I didn’t want to ruin the look of my Canadian tuxedo. My name is Ricky, that’s a mononym, like Cher or Madonna, and I’m just cosplaying hard,” he joked, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

The humorous moment quickly shifted toward the much-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Reynolds jokingly asked whether there was still room for him in the film, fueling rumors that Deadpool could make an appearance despite no official announcement from Marvel Studios.

Robert Downey Jr., who was also part of the panel, played along with the joke and teased Reynolds by saying the movie had already completed filming.

“It’s in the can, bro. Look around you. Did you bump your head?” Downey Jr. responded, referring to the packed Hall H audience.

Without breaking character, Deadpool continued the exchange, asking if there might still be “additional photography, no overages, maybe last-minute additions,” prompting more laughter from fans in attendance.

The playful interaction immediately spread across social media, where Marvel fans began debating whether Reynolds had secretly hinted at Deadpool’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday.

Many viewers interpreted the appearance as a subtle clue that the popular antihero could join the next Avengers adventure. One fan confidently wrote that Reynolds was “100% confirmed” in their eyes, while others speculated that the exchange between Reynolds and Downey Jr. may have contained hidden hints about the film.

Not everyone shared the same enthusiasm, however. Some social media users questioned Reynolds’ future in the franchise, while others offered mixed opinions about his Comic-Con appearance and the possibility of Deadpool joining the Avengers lineup.

Despite the growing speculation, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed whether Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor’s appearance at Comic-Con appeared to be designed primarily as a comedic surprise, leaving fans guessing about what the future holds for the fan-favorite character.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters worldwide on December 18, 2026. The highly anticipated superhero film will be the 39th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and continues the saga that followed Avengers: Endgame. With anticipation continuing to build, fans are eagerly awaiting official announcements about the movie’s complete cast and any surprise appearances that may still be revealed before its release.

Mayor shot dead inside town hall in Central Mexico

Valentín Lavín Romero, the mayor of Temoac in the central Mexican state of Morelos, was shot dead on Wednesday inside the municipal government headquarters. The politician, affiliated with the Green Party, an ally of the ruling Morena party, was targeted in broad daylight when armed hitmen entered the town hall before escaping on a motorcycle. The fatal attack came six months after Lavín Romero survived a previous attempt on his life in late January, when gunmen opened fire on his vehicle at a highway petrol station. His assassination marks the 14th murder of a mayor in Mexico since President Claudia Sheinbaum took office in October 2024, highlighting the persistent vulnerability of municipal officials in regions contested by organised crime networks. Prior to his death, Lavín Romero faced intense local scrutiny and threats. In May, a criminal group left a warning banner in the town center accusing him of protecting rival syndicates. He was also under pressure from community activists who demanded investigations into his alleged links to the homicides of two local campaigners. The state prosecutor’s office confirmed that initial forensic investigations are underway at the crime scene, though no suspects or official motives have yet been formally identified. The killing coincides with broader federal anti-corruption drives under Operation Swarm, which targets collusion between municipal administration members and regional cartels across multiple states.

Sohail Afridi says KP Police, CTD key to restoring…

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said that lasting peace in the province can only be ensured by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), stressing that no other force can replace their role in maintaining law and order. Speaking to reporters after visiting those injured in the recent explosion in Swat, the chief minister said peace is a shared responsibility and a common need for every citizen. He added that all political parties, religious groups, and people from different schools of thought are united in their desire to restore peace across the province. Afridi said the provincial government remains fully committed to its security policy and will implement it without compromise. He urged the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to stand together in support of peace and stability. He praised the sacrifices made by the provincial police and said the government is providing the force with all the resources it needs to combat terrorism and maintain security. According to the chief minister, more than Rs35 billion has been allocated to strengthen police infrastructure, modern equipment, and operational capacity. He maintained that the KP Police and CTD have the experience, capability, and commitment required to tackle security challenges and said no third party could establish peace in the province more effectively than these institutions. The chief minister said peace is essential for economic growth and public prosperity, adding that development cannot take place without a secure environment. He reaffirmed that strengthening law enforcement agencies remains one of the provincial government’s top priorities. Commenting on national politics, Afridi criticised the federal government, claiming it came to power through what he described as a “Form 47 mandate.” He urged the federal leadership to focus on addressing its own governance and economic challenges instead of criticising the provincial government. He also alleged that Rs5 trillion had been paid under the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) framework and claimed that the country’s economic indicators, including GDP growth, were declining.

Mustafa Zahid may return for ‘Awarapan 2’ remake track

Nearly two decades after Tera Mera Rishta became one of the biggest hits from Awarapan, original singer Mustafa Zahid may be returning for the sequel. The Pakistani vocalist appears set to reunite with the franchise’s makers. According to a Mid-day report, the 41-year-old is reportedly in talks with producers Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Bhatt. The discussions center around a remake for Awarapan 2. The development is notable given Bollywood’s long-standing stance on Pakistani artistes since the 2016 Uri attack. That boycott was reaffirmed more recently, following the 2025 Pahalgam attack. Despite that backdrop, talks are reportedly moving forward. If the deal goes through, the song would reportedly be recorded in Dubai rather than India. A source close to the matter told the publication that this could mark one of the rare recent instances of a Pakistani playback singer working on a mainstream Hindi film. However, the track itself will not feature in Awarapan 2 directly, as its inclusion could create certification complications for the film. To work around that, the makers are said to be considering releasing the song exclusively through social media promotions, bypassing theatrical use entirely. Meanwhile, the film’s own trailer dropped on August 6, marking the franchise’s return after 19 years. Emraan Hashmi reprises his role as Shivam Pandit, now portrayed as older and more emotionally scarred. Disha Patani joins the cast as Zara, while Shabana Azmi takes on the role of antagonist Nafisa. The soundtrack brings together composers Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli and Amaal Malik, among others, with tracks like Ve Junoon and Yeh Awarapan already released. The trailer also includes a recreated version of Tera Mera Rishta, now sung by Saaj Bhatt and Subodhh Sharma. Original lyricist Sayeed Qadri has returned to pen the updated version of the track. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 is set for a worldwide release on August 14. The film will clash at the box office with Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, setting up a high-profile release-date showdown.

Powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake hits western Colombia, killing at least 111

A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on Monday, killing at least 111 people and injuring dozens more in what authorities have confirmed is the country’s strongest earthquake of the 21st century. The massive tremor struck at a depth of 107 kilometres, with its epicentre located near Chocó. Despite occurring deep beneath the Earth’s crust, the intense seismic shock waves triggered widespread destruction across densely populated urban valleys throughout western Colombia and the primary coffee-growing regions. In Pereira, a four-story building collapsed into rubble, while video footage from Manizales captured the catastrophic collapse of one of the side towers of the city’s historic neo-Gothic cathedral. Severe building collapses and casualties were also reported in Cali, where local residents formed human chains alongside emergency responders to shovel away fallen concrete and pull survivors from trapped spaces. Thrusting the administration into its first major crisis just days after his inauguration, President Abelardo De La Espriella declared a national state of emergency. In a live television address, De La Espriella announced that all available state and military resources were being deployed to western Colombia, confirming that the national government’s immediate priority remains the location and rescue of victims trapped beneath collapsed structures. Severe regional communications outages initially delayed casualty reporting from rural zones near the epicentre in Chocó, where Governor Nubia Carolina Córdoba confirmed at least 12 fatalities and scores of injuries. Meanwhile, Colombia’s civil aviation authority halted flight operations across key regional airports, including facilities in Pereira, Manizales, Quibdó, Armenia, Cartago, and Buenaventura, while structural engineers assess airfield and terminal safety. The Colombian Geological Service recorded over 20 aftershocks following the initial quake and warned that additional tremors remain likely. Sitting directly along the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire, western Colombia previously suffered a devastating magnitude 6.2 earthquake in 1999 that claimed more than 1,000 lives across the same region.

Bangladesh create history with first Test win over Australia

DARWIN: Bangladesh have created cricketing history by defeating Australia by nine wickets in a Test match on Australian soil for the first time, securing a memorable victory in the opening match of the series. Chasing a modest target of 57 runs, Bangladesh completed the job with just one wicket down, sending a strong message to the hosts and producing one of the most significant Test victories in the country’s history. Shadman Islam remained unbeaten on 25, while Mominul Haque finished on 30 not out as Bangladesh comfortably reached the winning target. The victory sparked celebrations among the Bangladesh camp after a determined performance throughout the match. Australia had earlier been dismissed for 284 in their second innings, with Cameron Green producing a fighting century of 104. However, his effort could not prevent Bangladesh from taking control of the contest. Bangladesh’s bowling attack played a crucial role in restricting the hosts. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout performer, claiming five wickets for 66 runs. Hasan Mahmud took three wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam picked up one each. Australia had scored 198 in their first innings, while Bangladesh responded strongly with 426 to establish a commanding lead. The result marks a landmark moment for Bangladesh cricket and gives them a 1-0 lead in the series. More importantly, the victory demonstrates that Bangladesh can compete—and win—against one of Test cricket’s traditional powerhouses on their own home turf.

Lahore building collapse kills 10, several critica…

At least 10 people lost their lives and several others were injured after a three-storey residential building collapsed in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area late Wednesday night, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. Emergency teams rushed to the scene shortly after the incident and recovered 16 people from beneath the debris. Six victims were pronounced dead at the site, while the remaining injured were shifted to nearby hospitals. Four more later died from their injuries, raising the death toll to 10. Rescue officials said four people remain in critical condition and are receiving treatment, while two injured victims have been discharged after medical care. Search teams continued clearing the rubble to ensure no one remained trapped. According to preliminary findings, the roof of the ageing building collapsed at around 10:15pm, causing the entire structure to cave in. Members of an extended family living on different floors were inside the building when the collapse occurred. Police and rescue workers immediately launched a coordinated operation, using heavy machinery and manual equipment to search for survivors. Authorities said the exact number of people inside the building at the time of the collapse is still being determined. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed senior officials to monitor the rescue and relief efforts. The city commissioner visited both the accident site and the hospital to review the situation and meet the injured survivors. Local lawmakers also visited the area and assured affected families that all possible assistance would be provided during the rescue operation and rehabilitation process. The latest tragedy has renewed concerns over the safety of old and deteriorating buildings in Lahore. It comes only weeks after a deadly roof collapse at a private tuition centre in Kahna claimed the lives of 14 children. Following that incident, provincial authorities had ordered safety inspections of educational institutions and other ageing structures.
