Pakistan fast bowlers Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Abbas have been penalised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its Code of Conduct during the first Test against the West Indies.

Shahzad was fined 15 per cent of his match fee. Abbas, meanwhile, received an official reprimand.

Both players were also handed one demerit point on their disciplinary records. It was the first such offence for each player during the past 24 months.

The action was taken under Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. The provision deals with language, actions or gestures that can disparage a batter or provoke an aggressive response after a dismissal.

Shahzad was sanctioned following the dismissal of West Indies batter Shai Hope. The Pakistan pacer celebrated aggressively after taking the wicket during the 17th over of the West Indies’ second innings.

Abbas was penalised for his animated celebration after dismissing Jomel Warrican.

The charges were brought by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Richard Kettleborough. Third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal was also involved in the disciplinary process.

The proposed sanctions came from Jeff Crowe, a member of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees.

Both Pakistani bowlers accepted their respective offences and the proposed penalties. As a result, no formal hearing was required.

Under ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches can result in an official reprimand or a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player’s match fee. Players can also receive one or two demerit points.

The demerit points remain on a player’s disciplinary record for 24 months.

A player who accumulates four or more demerit points during that period can have them converted into suspension points.

Such suspension points can eventually lead to a ban from international cricket.

Aircraft carriers are among the US Navy’s most important military assets. They function as mobile bases at sea, carrying fighter aircraft, helicopters and other equipment capable of supporting operations far from US territory. Their mobility allows Washington to maintain airpower without relying entirely on land-based facilities in countries near a conflict zone. New carrier presence draws attention The arrival of the George Washington comes at a particularly sensitive moment. With tensions between Washington and Tehran remaining high and military operations continuing, the movement of a US carrier is likely to attract close attention from regional governments and military planners. The Navy’s immediate objective is understood to be maintaining an uninterrupted carrier presence rather than creating a completely new deployment structure. Still, the rotation highlights the pressures created by prolonged wartime deployments. For the United States, keeping powerful naval assets in the region provides strategic flexibility. For sailors aboard the Abraham Lincoln, however, the arrival of the George Washington could finally offer a long-awaited chance to return home and recover after one of the carrier’s most demanding deployments.

    Islamiat tops Grade 9, 10 failure list

    The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar has released the results of the 2026 annual examinations for Grades 9 and 10. The results show that Islamiat was the subject in which the highest number of students failed in both classes. According to the official statistics, a total of 97,950 students appeared in the Grade 9 annual examinations. Out of these, 57,847 students successfully passed and were promoted to Grade 10.     Medical board sources have revealed that injection marks were found on the arm and wrist of one of the two women who died at Township Police Station in Lahore. According to sources, around three and a half hours passed between the time the women were brought to the police station and their deaths. The sources said there was no significant difference in the post-mortem reports of the two women. The exact cause of death, however, has not yet been established. Police sources said the two women were not searched after being brought to the police station. They added that no female police personnel were present when the women were brought to the station. According to sources, both women were brought to the police station following a call made to emergency helpline 15. They reportedly remained seated near the station’s muharrir for around two hours. The muharrir was preparing to send the women to the female lock-up when the situation changed, sources said. Police officials said a case had been registered and the women were subsequently handed over to the investigation wing. They were reportedly being prepared for transfer to jail when both women collapsed. Sources further said there was no CCTV camera installed in the room of the investigation wing where the women were present. Police said female officers assigned to the station were deployed on duty at Data Darbar at the time. Officials maintained that women are searched before being placed in the female lock-up. Meanwhile, medical experts have suggested that the women may have died after consuming or being given a poisonous substance. Experts said the actual cause of death can be determined through forensic examination of samples collected during the investigation. The deaths have raised questions about the circumstances in which the women died while in police custody. Authorities are expected to rely on forensic evidence, post-mortem findings and other available evidence to establish the exact cause of death.
