PML-N can end AJK’s deprivations: Marryium Auran…

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) can help address the longstanding deprivations faced by Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

She made the remarks while addressing a PML-N rally in Rawalpindi. She also urged party workers to actively support PML-N candidates and work for their success.

Marryium Aurangzeb said the PML-N had delivered development projects across Punjab. She rejected criticism that the provincial government had focused only on Lahore.

She said roads and other infrastructure had been developed in cities across Punjab. She asked critics to visit different parts of the province and assess the development work themselves.

The senior minister also challenged the opposition to present similar development projects instead of criticising the government.

She referred to the motorway projects built during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure. She also mentioned the metro bus services introduced during Shehbaz Sharif’s tenure.

“Do not just complain. Build a motorway like Nawaz Sharif did,” she said.

She added that critics should also demonstrate their ability to provide public transport services similar to those introduced under Shehbaz Sharif.

Marryium Aurangzeb highlighted development initiatives in Azad Kashmir as well. She said green buses were now operating on the roads of Muzaffarabad.

She also praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s housing programme. She said the provincial government had provided homes to around 200,000 people through the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” initiative during the first 18 months.

The senior minister also highlighted the government’s education programmes.

She said 100,000 children had received laptops under the provincial government’s laptop scheme. She added that 50,000 students had been awarded Honhaar scholarships.

According to Marriyum Aurangzeb, these initiatives were aimed at supporting students and creating better educational opportunities for young people.

She said the PML-N had a record of development and public welfare projects. She urged party workers to remain united and campaign actively for the party’s candidates.

Marryium Aurangzeb maintained that the PML-N could play an important role in addressing the grievances of the people of AJK and bringing development to the region.

During a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, members questioned whether the country’s new digital procurement system was strong enough to protect government contracts, public money and sensitive information. The committee, chaired by Senator Rana Mahmood ul Hassan, reviewed PPRA’s performance and examined reforms aimed at improving how government departments purchase goods and services. The Managing Director of PPRA informed the committee that the Electronic Pakistan Acquisition and Disposal System, known as ePADS 2.0, has been introduced to make government procurement more transparent and reduce the chances of irregularities. Officials said the digital system now covers the complete procurement process, starting from planning until the final award of contracts. The committee was informed that Standard Bidding Documents have been added to the system to ensure all government departments follow the same procedures and prevent unauthorised changes in tender documents. Officials also informed lawmakers that payments made outside the ePADS system are no longer accepted, making the process more controlled and financially accountable. However, committee members raised questions about the electronic procurement platform’s cybersecurity, data protection, and overall safety. Lawmakers questioned how the system protects sensitive procurement information and whether Pakistan’s digital procurement framework matches international standards. The committee directed PPRA to provide a detailed briefing on the cybersecurity measures, encryption methods and data protection systems used in ePADS. Members also asked PPRA to compare Pakistan’s cybersecurity practices with leading international procurement systems to identify areas where improvements are needed. The committee stressed that a digital system can only succeed if it remains secure, reliable and protected from possible cyber threats. During the meeting, members also questioned the difference between manual and electronic procurement, the time required to complete procurement processes and the method used to select successful bidders. PPRA officials explained that contracts are awarded through the Most Advantageous Bid evaluation system. Officials said the relevant government departments decide technical requirements and qualification standards according to procurement rules. The committee was informed that complaints related to procurement decisions are handled through a formal grievance system before parties can approach courts or other legal forums. The committee also discussed government procurement during emergency situations, especially the purchase of fuel and essential goods during changing conditions in the Middle East. PPRA officials clarified that no special exemption was provided for emergency purchases. They informed the committee that existing Public Procurement Rule 21A already provides a legal method for urgent procurement during supply shortages or emergency requirements. The committee also reviewed draft regulations for the disposal of public assets. Officials informed members that the Disposal of Public Assets Regulations 2026 have been prepared according to the updated procurement framework and ePADS requirements. A special disposal module has also been developed within ePADS to ensure public assets are disposed of through a transparent process. The committee directed PPRA to continue improving procurement standards, expand vendor training across Pakistan and strengthen the overall digital procurement system. Members said better procurement management is important because government spending directly affects public services and national development. The committee also expressed concern over the Islamabad Club Administrator’s absence during the meeting despite the session being held at the club. Members recommended that Islamabad Club elections should be conducted according to rules and decided to raise the matter with the Prime Minister’s Office. The committee further expressed dissatisfaction over the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission’s failure to follow previous committee directives. Members recommended referring the matter to the Privileges Committee and informing the Prime Minister about the issue.

    Pakistan and seven other Muslim countries have condemned Israel’s reported rejection of the Gaza peace plan, warning that opposition to a political settlement could undermine efforts to end the conflict and achieve lasting regional peace. A joint statement issued by Pakistan, Egypt, Türkiye, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates said Israel’s rejection of the Gaza plan and Palestinian statehood was damaging peace efforts. The countries expressed concern over attempts to prevent implementation of the comprehensive plan and stressed the need for immediate action to end the war in Gaza. They also called for measures to address the humanitarian crisis and support reconstruction and recovery in the territory. The statement reaffirmed support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. The eight countries rejected any attempt to prevent or deny Palestinian statehood, saying a two-state solution remains the path toward a fair and lasting peace. They backed the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The countries also urged all parties to cooperate on the second phase of the Gaza plan and called for concrete steps toward implementing the Gaza roadmap.

    WEST BANK: Two mosques were set ablaze in the occupied West Bank overnight, Palestinian officials said on Sunday, in the latest escalation of violence that has sharply raised tensions across the territory. The attacks targeted a mosque under construction in Qusra, south of Nablus, and another mosque in the village of Kour, near Tulkarm. The incidents came only days after a deadly confrontation in the nearby village of Tal that left four Palestinians and two Israelis dead. In Qusra, Mayor Abdel Azim Wadi said settlers set fire to the mosque’s entrance and damaged parts of its stonework. Hebrew graffiti, including the word “revenge,” was reportedly sprayed across the walls. The Israeli military said troops were sent to the area after receiving reports of the fire. According to the army, the suspected attackers had already fled when soldiers arrived. Israeli police were expected to collect evidence and investigate the incident.     MULTAN: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued a notice to a Lahore resident, directing him to appear before its Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Multan in connection with an inquiry into alleged social media activity. According to an official notice issued under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), Syed Imran Shafqat has been asked to appear before investigators as part of Enquiry No. ENQ-CCRC-MTN-1549/26, registered on July 24, 2026. The notice states that the inquiry concerns allegations that the individual shared false, fabricated, malicious, and baseless content targeting government institutions and public dignitaries through social media platforms. Investigators have instructed him to present himself at the NCCIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Multan along with his original Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) to record his statement. The agency warned that failure to appear could result in the inquiry proceeding on the basis that no defence or explanation was offered by the recipient of the notice. The notice was issued by Sub-Inspector Tahir Mehmood of the NCCIA Cyber Crime Reporting Centre, Multan, as part of the agency’s ongoing investigations into alleged cybercrime-related offences.
