West Indies win toss, opt to bat first against Pak…

West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in the opening Test of the two-match series at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad. The hosts decided to take advantage of a pitch that appeared conducive to batting early on, with captain Kraigg Brathwaite expressing confidence that his spinners would play a crucial role later in the match.

The first session was interrupted by rain, with West Indies reaching 23-1 after losing opener Brandon King, who was dismissed by Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas. Pakistan captain Babar Azam stated he would have preferred to bat first as well, but his team now focused on making early inroads with the new ball.

Pakistan made one change to their playing XI, with left-arm spinner Ali Usman making his Test debut. The match also marked Babar Azam’s 100th first-class appearance, a significant milestone. The Brian Lara Cricket Academy is hosting its first-ever Test match, becoming the 13th Test venue in the Caribbean.

West Indies will look to capitalize on their decision to bat first and post a competitive total, while Pakistan’s bowlers, including debutant Usman, will aim to exploit the conditions and restrict the hosts. The match promises to be an exciting contest, with both teams eager to start the series positively.

The weather is expected to play a role, with forecasts predicting further interruptions, but both sides hope for a full game. The series is crucial for both teams in the context of the World Test Championship, and the first Test at the new venue is a historic occasion for Caribbean cricket.

Pakistan will look to overcome the absence of injured batsman Abdullah Fazal, while West Indies aim to capitalize on home advantage. The match is expected to be closely contested, with both teams having the potential to emerge victorious. As the game progresses, the performance of the spinners and the batsmen’s ability to adapt will be key factors. The first Test is poised to be a memorable encounter at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, marking a new chapter in Caribbean cricket history. Fans worldwide are eagerly watching as the two teams battle for supremacy in the Caribbean.

Johnny Depp unveils new look as Scrooge for upcomi…

Johnny Depp has officially unveiled his dramatic transformation into Ebenezer Scrooge, giving fans their first look at his highly anticipated new film, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. The veteran actor appears almost unrecognizable in the role, sporting a weathered Victorian look complete with gray facial hair, bushy eyebrows, a top hat, a long overcoat, and a walking cane. The striking makeover has already generated excitement among movie lovers eager to see Depp return to a major studio production.  The first trailer introduces Ebenezer as a darker and more atmospheric adaptation of Charles Dickens’ timeless novel A Christmas Carol. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ti West, who is best known for his horror films, the movie blends classic storytelling with supernatural suspense. Instead of presenting a traditional holiday tale, the film leans into the eerie encounters between Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, promising a fresh take on the beloved story.  Depp recently surprised fans by appearing in full Scrooge costume during San Diego Comic-Con, where he stayed in character while greeting the audience. The actor playfully interacted with fans and cosplayers dressed as some of his most iconic characters, including Captain Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, and Willy Wonka. His theatrical entrance added to the buzz surrounding the film and highlighted his commitment to the role.  The upcoming movie also boasts an impressive supporting cast. Andrea Riseborough portrays the Ghost of Christmas Past, while legendary actor Ian McKellen takes on the role of Jacob Marley. Rupert Grint stars as Bob Cratchit, with Daisy Ridley and Sam Claflin also joining the ensemble. Together, the cast aims to breathe new life into one of literature’s most enduring holiday classics.  For Depp, Ebenezer represents an important milestone in his career. It marks his first leading role in a major Hollywood studio film in several years and showcases his signature ability to disappear into eccentric and complex characters. Throughout his career, Depp has earned praise for memorable performances in films such as Edward Scissorhands, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. His portrayal of Scrooge continues that tradition of transformative acting.  Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 13, 2026. With its haunting visuals, star-studded cast, and a darker interpretation of Dickens’ classic tale, the film is already shaping up to be one of the year’s most talked-about releases. Fans will soon discover whether Johnny Depp’s haunting version of Ebenezer Scrooge becomes another unforgettable performance in his celebrated career.

Moscow restaurant bomb blast kills three, injures …

MOSCOW: A powerful explosion caused by a homemade bomb killed three people and injured at least 21 others outside an upscale restaurant in central Moscow on Saturday evening, prompting a major security operation and a high-level investigation by Russian authorities. According to Russia’s Anti-Terrorism Committee, the blast occurred shortly before 8pm local time near the Balzi Rossi Italian restaurant, located in one of Moscow’s iconic Stalin-era skyscrapers at Kudrinskaya Square. Officials said an unidentified woman carrying the explosive device attempted to enter the restaurant but was stopped by a security guard. Moments later, the bomb detonated, killing the woman, the security guard and a restaurant customer. Police said the injured suffered wounds of varying severity and were rushed to nearby hospitals, while emergency responders secured the area and searched for further threats. Video released by Russia’s state news agency RIA showed heavily armed security personnel and emergency crews surrounding the blast site, which was immediately sealed off as investigators gathered evidence. Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the victims or indicated who may have been behind the attack. Investigators are examining multiple possibilities as the probe continues. The incident comes amid heightened security concerns in Russia, more than four years after the escalation of the war in Ukraine. Earlier this year, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced enhanced protection measures for senior military officials following a series of assassinations and attempted attacks that Moscow blamed on Kyiv. Meanwhile, Russian newspaper Kommersant, citing unnamed sources, reported that investigators suspect the explosive device may have been intended to target guests gathered on the restaurant’s outdoor summer terrace. The report also suggested the bomb could have been detonated remotely, raising the possibility that the woman carrying it may not have known she was transporting an explosive. The restaurant’s official website stated that it had been closed to the public on Saturday due to a private event, adding another layer of mystery to the incident. As forensic teams continue examining the scene, authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation while the investigation remains underway. The blast has once again highlighted ongoing security challenges in the Russian capital and raised fresh concerns about public safety in crowded urban areas.
