Teen footballer goes missing from Pakistan camp after Norway Cup

OSLO: A 15-year-old Pakistani footballer has gone missing after reportedly leaving the Better Future Pakistan camp in Norway without informing team officials, prompting an immediate police search during the team’s stay in Oslo.

According to a statement issued by Better Future Pakistan, the young player departed the camp on his own without seeking permission from the management. The organization said his whereabouts remain unknown despite ongoing efforts to locate him.

Officials stressed that preliminary findings suggest the footballer left the camp voluntarily, with no evidence so far indicating foul play, kidnapping or coercion. They urged the public to avoid speculation while authorities continue their investigation.

The camp management said police were notified within 20 minutes of the player last being seen. Norwegian authorities responded promptly, launching search operations and initiating the necessary legal procedures to trace the missing teenager.

Better Future Pakistan stated that it is maintaining close contact with local law enforcement agencies and is fully cooperating with the investigation. The organization also said it is providing updates to the player’s family and relevant Pakistani authorities as new information becomes available.

The incident occurred after the conclusion of the Norway Cup, one of the world’s largest international youth football tournaments, which was held in Oslo from July 25 to August 1. Better Future Pakistan had sent a group of young footballers to participate in the event as part of its youth development program.

While the missing player’s disappearance has raised concern, officials confirmed that all other members of the Pakistani contingent have safely returned home following the completion of the tournament.

The case has drawn attention in Pakistan’s sporting community, coming shortly after other reports involving Pakistani athletes going missing during overseas tours. However, Better Future Pakistan emphasized that each case is unique and cautioned against drawing premature conclusions.

Authorities in Norway continue their search, while the football community hopes the teenager is found safe and reunited with his family as soon as possible. Both police and team officials have appealed for anyone with credible information about the player’s whereabouts to contact the relevant authorities immediately.

Monsoon rains trigger flood warnings across Pakistan

Persistent monsoon rains continued to lash several parts of Pakistan on Tuesday, triggering fresh flood alerts, increasing river flows, and prompting disaster management authorities to remain on high alert as another spell of rain is expected over the next 24 to 48 hours. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), weak monsoon currents are currently affecting the country’s upper and eastern regions, while a westerly weather system continues to influence northwestern areas. The department has forecast humid weather across much of Pakistan, with rain and thunderstorms likely in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Punjab through Wednesday. The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) reported that the Indus River remains in a low flood situation at Kalabagh and Chashma, while water levels in all other major rivers are currently within normal limits or below the low-flood threshold. Authorities believe the overall hydrological situation is expected to remain stable over the next 24 hours, although scattered rainfall in the upper catchments may slightly increase river flows. Chenab River Under Close Watch Officials are closely monitoring the Chenab River after India released additional water from the Baglihar Dam following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment of the river. According to available reports, three spillway gates of the dam were opened on Monday, adding to the two spillways that had already been opened several days earlier, resulting in higher downstream water flows. In response, the FFD has issued a low to medium flood alert for Head Marala during the next 24 hours. The latest hydrological data shows inflows of approximately 93,900 cusecs, while outflows stand at around 76,200 cusecs. Forecasts indicate inflows may range between 80,000 and 100,000 cusecs, with the river expected to remain in the low flood category. Heavy Rainfall Recorded Across the Country During the last 24 hours, widespread rainfall was reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. Among the highest rainfall recorded by the PMD, Saidu Sharif received 86 millimetres, Kakul 71 millimetres, and Faisalabad 77 millimetres. Meanwhile, Sibbi remained the hottest city in the country with a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius. The FFD’s rainfall monitoring system recorded exceptionally heavy downpours in Faisalabad, where Ghulam Muhammad Abad Water Works received 126 millimetres of rain, while the WASA Head Office recorded 123 millimetres. Significant rainfall was also reported in Lahore, Sialkot, Gujrat, and several surrounding areas. PDMA Warns of Urban Flooding and Landslides Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) stated that monsoon rains affected most districts of the province over the past day. The authority said advance planning, timely deployment of drainage machinery, and emergency response teams helped clear accumulated rainwater from urban areas despite the heavy showers. The PDMA warned that the current monsoon spell is likely to continue until August 5, with additional rainfall in upper catchment areas expected to increase water levels in eastern rivers and seasonal streams. Authorities have cautioned that urban flooding remains a significant risk in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Multan. At the same time, the possibility of landslides persists in Murree, Galliyat, and other mountainous regions due to continuous rainfall. Authorities Urge Public to Take Precautions Disaster management authorities have established flood relief camps in vulnerable districts to facilitate emergency response if required. Residents living near riverbanks, seasonal streams, and flood-prone areas have been advised to relocate to safer locations as a precaution.

Punjab allocates Rs12.52bn for local polls after 1…

The Punjab government has taken a major step towards holding long-delayed local government elections, approving Rs12.52 billion for the polls that could finally restore elected local councils across the province after an 11-year gap. The decision was taken during the 36th meeting of the Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The allocation signals that the provincial government is preparing for a fresh local election process after years of political, legal and administrative delays. Punjab last held local government elections in 2015, during the tenure of former chief minister Shehbaz Sharif. Polling was conducted in phases between October and December that year, while elected councils formally assumed office in 2017 following indirect elections for mayors and chairpersons. However, the local government system subsequently faced repeated disruptions. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government dissolved the elected local bodies in April 2019 before their scheduled completion. Although the Supreme Court later ordered their restoration, the councils eventually completed their term on December 31, 2021. Under Article 140A of the Constitution and the Elections Act, local government elections are required within 120 days after the expiry of local councils. This meant Punjab’s next elections were due in April 2022. Yet successive governments repeatedly changed local government laws, forcing the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to restart key preparations. Polls Could Be Held by November The latest development has raised hopes that Punjab may finally see local elections later this year. PILDAT President Ahmad Bilal Mehboob welcomed the cabinet’s decision to allocate funds, describing it as a positive indication that the electoral process could move forward. He said the ECP had completed the demarcation and delimitation process and dealt with objections, making it possible for the commission to announce an election schedule after August 17. According to Mehboob, if there is no “unseen factor”, local government elections could be held in Punjab by November 2026. The move could also have wider political implications. Asked whether the PML-N government’s decision might ease pressure surrounding demands for the creation of new provinces, Mehboob said provincial restructuring remained a complex issue. However, he noted that holding local elections could, to some extent, reduce the pressure for new provinces by strengthening grassroots representation. For millions of Punjab residents, the key question now is whether the latest budget allocation will finally translate into polling stations, elected councils and a functioning local government system after years of waiting.

PMDC warns doctors over expired medical licences

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has issued an important warning to doctors whose professional licences have expired. The council has decided to take action against doctors who fail to renew their licences within the required period. Under the new decision, doctors will be given six months to complete the renewal process. Licences that are not renewed within this period may be cancelled. The PMDC has also stressed that doctors involved in clinical practice must have a valid and active licence. Doctors with expired or inactive licences could face restrictions on their professional practice. The council has advised such doctors to complete the renewal process without delay. The move is aimed at ensuring that only properly registered and authorised doctors continue to provide medical services. The PMDC maintains the registration and licensing system for medical and dental practitioners in Pakistan. Keeping licences active is an important requirement for doctors who are practising professionally. The latest warning is expected to push doctors with expired licences to complete their renewals within the specified six-month period. Doctors have been advised to remain compliant with the council’s licensing requirements to avoid possible cancellation of their licences and disruption to their clinical practice.

Indian activist held over shocking protest comments

Indian political commentator and social activist T.G. Mohandas has been detained by police over controversial remarks about students taking part in a protest. Police reportedly took Mohandas into custody from his residence on Sunday evening. A cybercrime police team reached his home with local police officers. He was present when the team arrived. Authorities are investigating remarks made by Mohandas in a video shared on his YouTube channel. Police also collected information about his YouTube account and digital devices allegedly used to record and upload the video. A complaint has reportedly been registered against him. The complaint alleges that the videos published on his channel were capable of disturbing public order. It also accused him of creating fear and unrest through his statements. The controversy began after Mohandas commented on a student protest in Delhi linked to an alleged examination paper leak. In the video, he made offensive remarks about female protesters and claimed that the demonstrations could lead to incidents of sexual violence. He further made a derogatory statement about women participating in the protest. His comments triggered criticism because they appeared to blame or demean potential victims of sexual violence. Mohandas also spoke about how authorities should respond to the demonstrations. He said that if he were in government, he would impose a curfew to disperse the protesters. He further suggested that force could be used if demonstrators refused to leave. His remarks included references to people potentially being killed or permanently injured during a violent crackdown. The comments have drawn attention from law enforcement authorities. Police are now examining the video and other digital material connected to the case. Officials are also questioning Mohandas as part of the investigation. The authorities are expected to determine whether his statements and online content violated laws relating to public order and the spread of fear or unrest. The case has sparked wider discussion over the limits of political commentary and responsibility for statements made on social media. The investigation is continuing, while further details about the allegations and possible legal action are awaited.

Billy Strings reacts after fan throws object onstage

Billy Strings has opened up about a shocking moment during his recent concert in Indiana after a fan threw an object at him while he was performing on stage. The incident took place on Thursday, August 6, during one of the bluegrass musician’s sold-out shows in Fishers, Indiana. Strings was in the middle of addressing the audience when an object, reportedly believed to be a lighter, was thrown toward him and struck him on the head. The unexpected incident came just as the singer was expressing his excitement about being back in Indiana. Strings had previously been forced to postpone a performance, making the return particularly meaningful for him. “Thank you so much, I’m so glad I can make it down here. To make up for last time,” he told the audience before the object hit him. Clearly frustrated by what had happened, Strings immediately reacted from the stage. He questioned why anyone would throw something at him, especially when he had been preparing to tell the crowd how happy he was to perform for them. “What the hell, man? Maybe not. Maybe I shouldn’t have come back,” the musician said in an angry response. He went on to express his disappointment, pointing out that he had been feeling positive about the crowd before the incident interrupted the moment. “I was just getting ready to say how much I’m happy to be here, and I love you guys,” Strings said while addressing the person responsible. The musician’s reaction became one of the most talked-about moments from the concert, as fans expressed concern over the decision to throw an object toward a performer. Strings appeared determined not to let the incident completely derail the show, but the experience clearly left him frustrated. In a later remark, he made a strong statement about identifying the person who had thrown the object. Following the incident, Strings also appeared on stage wearing protective headgear, seemingly taking extra precautions during his performances. The Indiana concert was particularly notable as it marked an important return to the stage for Strings following his previous major performances. He had most recently performed during Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Music Festival Tour stop in Spokane, Washington. During that appearance, Strings paid tribute to legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, who was also present at the event and performed “All Along the Watchtower.” Strings has also experienced deeply emotional moments during his career. Months after that performance, he paid tribute to his late mother during an emotional concert in Lexington, reportedly taking the stage only hours after learning about her death. Despite the difficult moments surrounding his recent performances, Strings has continued connecting with audiences through his music. However, the incident in Indiana has highlighted the risks performers can face when audience members behave unpredictably during live shows.

Kendall Jenner fuels Jacob Elordi romance rumors with poetry

Kendall Jenner has sparked fresh speculation about her relationship with actor Jacob Elordi after sharing an emotional piece of love poetry on social media. The model and entrepreneur took to Instagram on August 11, just two days after celebrating the 29th birthday of her younger sister, Kylie Jenner. Instead of sharing another glimpse into her family celebrations, Kendall posted a meaningful poem that appeared to explore love, vulnerability and the complicated emotions that can emerge in relationships. The poem, titled For Grace, After a Party, was written by acclaimed American poet Frank O’Hara. It focuses on the intimate feelings of someone deeply in love and the contrast between private emotions and the chaos of social situations. The poem begins with the line, “You do not always know what I am feeling,” setting an emotional and reflective tone. It then describes how the speaker’s feelings for his loved one can become overwhelming, even in a room filled with people. The writing continues to explore the idea of expressing intense emotions indirectly. The speaker recalls being surrounded by strangers while realizing that his strongest feelings were connected to the person he loved. The poem presents love as something powerful enough to transform anger, loneliness and ordinary moments into deeply personal experiences. Later, the poem shifts toward a quieter scene between two people who share an intimate relationship. The speaker describes waking after a night out and finding comfort in the presence of his loved one. Even an ordinary moment, such as being asked how they would like their eggs prepared, becomes meaningful because of the emotional connection between the couple. Kendall’s decision to share the poem has prompted fans to wonder whether it could have a connection to her own romantic life. She has reportedly been linked to Jacob Elordi, with speculation surrounding the pair growing after they were seen spending time together on several occasions. The two have reportedly grown closer since the beginning of the year and have been spotted enjoying time together during the summer. Their relationship has attracted considerable public attention, particularly because both Kendall and Jacob have generally kept their personal lives away from the spotlight. While Kendall did not provide any explanation for sharing the poem, its romantic and vulnerable themes quickly led fans to interpret the post as a possible message connected to her relationship. However, there is no confirmation that the poem was intended for Jacob or that it reflects the current state of their romance. Kendall may simply have connected with O’Hara’s words and wanted to share them with her followers. For now, the Instagram post remains open to interpretation, leaving fans to speculate about whether Kendall was expressing her feelings or simply appreciating a powerful piece of poetry.
