BANGKOK, Thailand — The death toll from the devastating fire at a Chatuchak district pub has risen to 30 after two critically injured victims succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, according to an update from the Chatuchak District Office. Authorities have formally identified 27 of the deceased, including one Laotian national, while forensic teams continue their efforts to confirm the identities of the remaining three victims.

The venue’s owner, who reportedly managed to escape the initial blaze but bravely returned to the burning building in an attempt to help others, remains in intensive care in critical condition. Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat stated that the owner is undergoing further medical assessments, noting that the combination of severe burn injuries and respiratory system damage typically requires a prolonged and complex treatment regimen.

The tragedy has deeply affected the local music community, as three members of the ‘Totsakan’ band—the lead singer, keyboardist, and drummer—were among those killed. The fire broke out while the group was actively performing, trapping them and numerous patrons inside the rapidly filling venue.

During a briefing at Government House, the Public Health Minister detailed the extensive medical response following his visit to injured victims at Rajavithi Hospital. He reported that three patients remain in critical condition, while another is classified with moderate injuries. To manage the influx of casualties, medical teams are providing comprehensive care across 17 different hospitals, with a system in place to transfer patients requiring specialized treatment within the ministry’s network.

Recognizing the psychological and physical toll of the disaster, the Department of Mental Health has deployed support teams to assist patients with moderate and minor injuries. Concurrently, specialist teams from the Department of Health are closely monitoring victims who inhaled toxic smoke for potential respiratory complications. The minister acknowledged that several patients remain in a worrying condition, emphasizing that the first seven days represent a particularly critical period where severe burn and respiratory injury patients face a high risk of secondary infections. Medical professionals are currently doing everything possible to stabilize the patients and prevent the death toll from rising further.

In the wake of the disaster, the community has begun to mourn the profound loss of life. This morning, mourners and members of the public gathered to lay flowers in front of the charred venue, paying their respects to those who perished and showing solidarity with the survivors and their families.

    TANK: At least 14 security personnel were martyred and 27 others injured in a major suicide attack on the Manjhi Khel Joint Check Post in Tank district after terrorists rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the facility late Thursday night, triggering a massive blast. According to security and police sources, the powerful explosion caused extensive destruction to the check post, completely demolishing seven to eight rooms and damaging nearby houses. Shortly after the blast, an intense exchange of gunfire erupted between the attackers and security forces and continued for a considerable period. Sources said all attackers were killed during the ensuing security operation. A clearance and search operation remains underway as authorities continue removing debris and recovering bodies. The martyred personnel reportedly include two police officials, seven members of the security forces, and one Forest Guard. Among the police personnel who embraced martyrdom were Constable Bilal and driver Tala Muhammad. The injured include four police officials Constable Ismatullah Akbari, Constable Jasim, Constable Muhammad Dawood, and Constable Pir Ghulam along with other security personnel. All the wounded were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tank, for medical treatment. According to sources, two of the attackers were wearing uniforms resembling those of the Pakistan Army in an apparent attempt to deceive security personnel. Preliminary information suggests the suicide attack was carried out using a Datsun/Mazda vehicle loaded with approximately 1,500 kilograms of explosives. Sources also claimed that a white Toyota Corolla GLi was used by the attackers, apparently to facilitate their movement after the explosion. Following the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a large scale search and clearance operation. Officials are collecting evidence to determine the full circumstances of the attack. However, an official statement confirming the casualty figures and operational details is still awaited. Meanwhile, the funeral prayers for the martyred personnel are expected to be attended by Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed and Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Shahab Ali Shah. In response to the security situation, the district administration has imposed a district-wide curfew in Tank from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with all entry and exit routes to the city closed until further notice. Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and avoid unnecessary travel during the curfew.

    TEHRAN: Iran has rejected claims that a 60-day deadline had expired under its memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States, saying the agreement never imposed a fixed deadline on Tehran and that its decisions would be guided by national interests and security. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei made the remarks during a press briefing on Monday as the period referenced in discussions between Tehran and Washington came to an end. “There is no such thing as a 60-day deadline in the text of the MoU,” Baqaei said, according to Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency. He stressed that Iran would not formulate its policies under pressure, ultimatums or externally imposed time limits. According to Baqaei, the agreement provided a 60-day window for negotiations focused on two key issues — sanctions relief and Iran’s nuclear programme. He said the period could have been extended if the two sides failed to reach an outcome. However, Tehran argues that the understanding became irrelevant after what it described as widespread US violations of the agreement. Baqaei said no talks were ultimately launched under the framework because of Washington’s alleged actions. The MoU was signed on June 18 following weeks of diplomatic efforts aimed at easing the wider Middle East conflict and reopening the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is a major route for global energy shipments, making any disruption there a concern for international markets. Tensions later escalated, with Iran accusing the United States of breaching the understanding. Hostilities resumed on July 7, when Iranian forces attacked commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, including a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker. The United States subsequently carried out several waves of strikes against Iranian military targets. The conflict also expanded beyond the Gulf, with Yemen’s Houthi rebels imposing a naval blockade affecting Saudi Arabia and adding pressure on another vital regional shipping route. Missing pilots Baqaei also raised the issue of three Iranian pilots whose fate remains disputed. Tehran says the pilots went missing during an operation targeting the US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar in March. Iran now considers the missing men prisoners until their fate is clarified. Qatar, however, denies holding them and says it previously invited Iranian officials to receive details about search-and-rescue operations. Oil spill dispute The Iranian spokesman also blamed US military operations for environmental damage in Gulf waters and called for Washington to be held responsible. Iran recently demanded compensation over an oil slick that reached Qeshm Island, affecting beaches and mangrove areas. Tehran has blamed a foreign vessel for the spill, while outside reports have raised questions over the circumstances surrounding the incident. With diplomacy stalled and tensions continuing around the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s latest statement signals that Tehran is unwilling to accept Washington’s interpretation of the MoU or negotiate under a deadline.
