Her Majesty Queen Suthida was born in 1978 in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, in southern Thailand. She pursued her higher education in the capital, graduating from Assumption University in Bangkok with a bachelor’s degree in communication arts.

Before ascending to her current royal duties, the Queen built a diverse professional background in both the private sector and the military. She began her early career in aviation, working as a flight attendant for Japan Airlines (JAL) from 2000 to 2003, before joining Thai Airways, where she served from 2003 to 2008.

Transitioning to military and royal service, she underwent rigorous training and served as an operation staff officer at the Royal Guard Unit. She also served as a member of the King’s bodyguard prior to her marriage to King Maha Vajiralongkorn, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to national service and the monarchy.

The celebration of the Queen’s birthday is a significant event in the Thai calendar, reflecting the deep reverence the public holds for the monarchy. The day is characterized by a blend of official state ceremonies and grassroots community activities, highlighting the cultural and spiritual traditions of the nation.

He described it as the country’s “real and permanent rulers.” Asif said bureaucrats had remained largely beyond effective accountability during Pakistan’s 78-year history. He said politicians had faced accountability on numerous occasions. Other powerful groups had also been held accountable at different times. However, he said it was difficult to find similar examples involving senior bureaucrats. The defence minister made the remarks while sharing a social media post about alleged financial corruption involving a senior bureaucrat. Asif said the bureaucracy had gradually become a powerful and largely untouchable class. He questioned why bureaucrats had not been subjected to the same level of scrutiny as politicians. According to Asif, politicians themselves were partly responsible for the situation. He said political leaders had failed to establish an effective system to hold the bureaucracy accountable. The minister also referred to a former bureaucratic ruler while discussing the influence of senior officials in Pakistan. He said the former official used highly inappropriate and insulting language against politicians. Despite this behaviour, politicians continued to tolerate him, according to Asif. Asif’s comments highlight his criticism of the imbalance in accountability among powerful sections of Pakistani society. His remarks also raise questions about the role of the bureaucracy in governance and decision-making. The minister maintained that stronger accountability was needed for all powerful groups. He suggested that politicians could not blame bureaucrats alone for the existing system because political leaders had also contributed to its continuation.

    Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi could not have made recent remarks without consulting the prime minister, while calling for a national policy to address the country’s political and administrative challenges. Addressing a press conference in Quetta, Fazlur Rehman said there was no comprehensive national policy to improve the country’s current situation. He said the proposal to create new provinces should be considered carefully in light of Pakistan’s administrative structure and overall capacity. He said creating new provinces was not a bad idea in principle, but stressed that it was not a simple process and required serious consideration of the country’s political, constitutional and financial realities. The JUI-F chief alleged that new political debates were often introduced to divert public attention from pressing national issues. He urged Mahmood Khan Achakzai to convene a meeting of the joint opposition to discuss the country’s political situation. Fazlur Rehman said if such a meeting was not called, his party would organize a broader national-level conference to deliberate on the challenges facing the country. He warned that democracy could not flourish if governments continued to be formed according to individual preferences rather than the public mandate. He further said democratic institutions had weakened and Parliament was no longer functioning effectively. According to him, Pakistan must be governed strictly in accordance with the Constitution to restore public confidence. Calling for a fair and nationally inclusive policy, Fazlur Rehman said the country needed governance based on justice and equality. He also confirmed that JUI-F had decided not to join the government in Balochistan. Commenting on provincial politics, he said JUI-F remained the country’s largest public political movement and added that he had no knowledge of any proposal regarding Abdul Malik Baloch becoming the next chief minister of Balochistan.

Brent crude futures dropped by $1.03, or 1.2%, to trade at $88 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $1.50, or 1.8%, to $82.09 per barrel. Even with the daily decline, both international benchmarks remained on track to post monthly gains of around 20%. Market analysts said the fall in prices was mainly driven by improving oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. The increase in exports helped offset fears that the ongoing regional conflict could lead to major supply disruptions. The Strait of Hormuz normally carries nearly one-fifth of the world’s crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. The route has remained under close watch since tensions escalated following the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran. At the same time, Saudi Arabia is working with regional partners to strengthen maritime security in strategic waterways, including the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. These routes play a vital role in global energy transportation. According to Saudi officials, 14 countries have expressed support for the proposed multinational maritime defence initiative, aimed at improving the safety of commercial shipping in the region. Meanwhile, the security situation remains uncertain after Yemen’s Houthi movement announced a naval blockade targeting Saudi Arabia, raising fresh concerns over the safety of Red Sea shipping lanes, which serve as an alternative route for oil exports. Although oil tankers continue to pass through both the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, traders say higher security risks have pushed up shipping costs and insurance premiums. These additional expenses continue to keep a geopolitical risk premium built into global oil prices.

Graffiti was also painted on one of the memorial’s surfaces, including the words “Clean hands Dirty $”, while red and green paint was splattered around the area. Police and National Guard personnel quickly converged on the memorial, which was surrounded by yellow crime scene tape as investigators examined the damage. A plainclothes investigator was seen measuring the affected area, while workers later arrived to remove the graffiti. The US Interior Department condemned the incident and pledged that authorities would identify those responsible. “The vandalism that occurred is an utter disgrace and will not be tolerated,” the department said in a statement. It added that US Park Police were at the scene and that the investigation was continuing. The Friends of the National WWII Memorial, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to preserving the site, also condemned the act, describing the memorial as a “sacred place of remembrance”. The group stressed that although Americans have many venues for political expression, debate and disagreement, a national memorial dedicated to those who served in the war should not be used as a target for vandalism. Dedicated in 2004, the memorial commemorates the 16 million Americans who served in the armed forces during World War Two, including around 400,000 who died during the conflict. It features 56 granite pillars surrounding an elliptical plaza on the National Mall. Located near the Washington Monument, the memorial occupies a prominent position in the US capital and attracts visitors throughout the year. The incident comes amid heightened political tensions in Washington, where debates over national history, public monuments and their symbolism have become increasingly contentious. Despite deep political divisions in the United States, the country’s role in World War Two remains widely associated with national sacrifice and unity. The war’s legacy, however, continues to generate debate, including over the US decision to use atomic bombs against Japan in 1945. According to the National Park Service, construction of the memorial began in 2001 and was completed in 2004. It was formally dedicated on May 29, 2004, during Memorial Day weekend and opened to the public that year. Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect. The investigation remains ongoing as officials assess the damage and work to restore the memorial.

    Hyderabad police issue 45 e-challans

    Hyderabad Police have issued 45 e-challans for various traffic violations after introducing the e-challan system in the city. According to a police spokesperson, SSP Hyderabad Shahzeb Chachar directed officers to use modern technology to strengthen traffic law enforcement. Officers issued the challans through a mobile application after recording violations at different locations. DSP Hussainabad Ghulam Akbar, DSP Traffic Latifabad Masood Arain and SO Auto Bhan Faisal Ali supervised the operation. Police are paying particular attention to violations on Auto Bhan Road, including parking in no-parking areas, driving in the wrong direction, one-way violations and signal jumping. SSP Shahzeb Chachar has instructed officers to take action against traffic violators without discrimination and ensure motorists follow traffic rules. Hyderabad Police have also urged citizens to park only in designated areas, follow the correct direction of traffic and obey signals and other road regulations.
