Cambodian Rocket Fire Injures Seven in Thai Border Villages

SA KAEO – Heavy fighting along the Thai-Cambodian border escalated on Monday as Cambodian forces fired BM-21 rockets into Sa Kaeo province, injuring seven individuals and prompting a full-scale evacuation of local communities. The attack struck Ban Nong Samet, wounding one police officer and six civilians, according to local authorities.

Cambodian Artillery Shells Hit Thai Homes in Border Clashes, Soldier Killed

In response to the intensifying violence, officials have ordered the complete evacuation of 19 villages in the area. The conflict, which reignited on December 8, shows no signs of abating, with warnings that hostilities are likely to expand further.

The prolonged clashes have devastated the local economy. The once-bustling Rong Kluea Market now stands deserted, and numerous hotels have been forced to close their doors. Sa Kaeo is reported to be among the most severely impacted of Thailand’s seven border provinces, with cross-border trade and tourism grinding to a total halt.

Houthis claim attack on Saudi Tanker as US Naval b…

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for targeting a Saudi oil tanker in the Red Sea with ballistic missiles, alleging the vessel violated a blockade on Saudi ports announced by the group last week . The Houthi military spokesman identified the ship as the NCC Ghazal, stating it had been “forced to turn back” after ignoring warnings. This attack is the latest in a series of maritime operations by the Iran-aligned group, which previously claimed to have targeted two Saudi tankers, the Encelia and Layla, and to have forced around ten ships to retreat . In a related development, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday that it has redirected 18 commercial vessels, disabled two, and boarded two others as part of its ongoing naval blockade against Iran . The intensified maritime operations come amid a complex regional conflict involving US-Iran hostilities, with CENTCOM stating there are more than 20 ships currently supporting military operations in the Middle East . The Houthi actions and the US naval blockade add new layers of tension to the region’s shipping lanes, critical for global energy supplies, and coincide with broader diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the wider conflict.

Paris scout tied to Epstein network found dead

A modelling scout with ties to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has been found dead at his home in France. Authorities discovered Daniel Siad, 69, on Monday in Colombes, a suburb northwest of Paris, according to confirmation from the Nanterre prosecutor’s office. The office said it opened an investigation Monday evening to determine the cause of death and confirmed that a post mortem examination would be conducted. Siad’s name appeared thousands of times across documents released by the US government related to Epstein. He had denied any awareness of the threat Epstein posed to the women and girls around him. His lawyer, Menya Arab Tigrine, stressed that Siad had faced several complaints in France, including allegations of rape, but had never been prosecuted. She said in a statement that he had died and that he was innocent. A woman identified only as Anya, an Epstein victim who spoke previously to reporters, said Siad had introduced her to Epstein and described the arrangement as a complete set up, calling Siad essentially a professional trafficker. In one email to Epstein released among the files, Siad wrote in broken English that in this business he sometimes catches fish quickly and other times catches none, a comment referencing his work finding models. Ahead of a recent investigative report examining the allegations, Arab Tigrine had said her client was unavailable for comment. However, in an earlier television interview, Siad said he had not known that women were being abused by Epstein, adding that he trusted Epstein and believed he was a professional person. The first complaints against Siad in France were filed in February. He denied any wrongdoing in multiple recent media appearances, telling one French broadcaster in May that he had never raped anyone in his life. Lawyers representing the former model who filed the first complaint against Siad said they were stunned by news of his death, saying they struggled to find words for the anger and sadness they felt, with alleged victims now denied the chance for a criminal trial. The lawyers expressed strong frustration toward the Paris prosecutor’s office, which had announced in February that it was opening an investigation into Epstein’s French associates. They accused the office of what they called scandalous inaction, arguing it reflected contempt from public authorities toward victims of sexual crimes connected to the trafficking network Epstein and his associates built. Another former model who gave a police deposition in June as part of the investigation into Siad told reporters that his death means any information he might have held about Epstein has now been lost. She said an important link in the chain had vanished before authorities had any chance to recover what he might have known, since he was never formally questioned. She said too much time had already been lost in the investigation and expressed hope that authorities would not wait years longer before searching his home, though she suggested it might already be too late. Anne Claire Le Jeune, a lawyer representing six women who filed complaints against Siad, said her clients had been denied justice. She said her clients found the strength to break a heavy silence surrounding Siad’s ties to Epstein and faced every stage of the legal process with remarkable courage. She called it deeply regrettable that the slow pace of the investigation allowed Siad to die before he could be questioned or detained, depriving the victims of a crucial step in their pursuit of truth and accountability. Another Epstein associate, French modelling agent Jean Luc Brunel, was found hanged in his Paris prison cell in 2022. Brunel, 76 at the time, had spent more than a year in custody while under investigation on suspicion of raping minors and trafficking minors for sexual exploitation, allegations he denied. Brunel founded the modelling agency MC2 Model Management with funding from Epstein and was suspected of helping transport and house young women and girls on Epstein’s behalf. Epstein, who was 66, died by suicide in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting federal trial on sex trafficking charges. This account involves detailed allegations of serious sexual abuse and trafficking. If any of this touches on something you’re personally affected by, I’m glad to help you find appropriate support resources.

Rain inundates homes, shops in Rawalpindi

Heavy rain in Rawalpindi has caused flooding in several low-lying areas, creating difficulties for residents. Water entered homes in Sadiqabad and Dhoke Elahi Bakhsh. Residents faced problems as rainwater accumulated inside residential areas. Several major roads were also affected. Rainwater collected on Murree Road, Rawal Road and Dhoke Khaba, disrupting traffic and making movement difficult. The situation became more difficult as WASA drainage teams had yet to reach some affected areas. Residents were waiting for authorities to clear the accumulated water. Water also entered shops in some areas, causing inconvenience to traders and residents. Meanwhile, the rain in Rawalpindi and Islamabad later stopped. Following the end of the rainfall, the water level in Nullah Lai began to fall. At Kattarian, the water level dropped to around 14 feet. At the Gawalmandi Bridge, the water level was recorded at around 16 feet. The rainfall has highlighted the vulnerability of low-lying areas in Rawalpindi to urban flooding. Residents have called for timely drainage operations to prevent rainwater from entering homes and businesses. The weather department has also forecast rain at some places in Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Authorities are expected to remain alert in areas vulnerable to flooding and water accumulation.

Anas Sarwar joins UK Cabinet as Trade Minister

Anas Sarwar has resigned as leader of the Scottish Labour Party after accepting the post of Minister of State for Trade in Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s government. The move ends his five-year leadership of the party and opens a new chapter in his political career at the national level. Sarwar confirmed that he will step down from the Scottish Parliament and will receive a life peerage, allowing him to take a seat in the House of Lords. From there, he will serve as a minister in the UK government and take responsibility for trade-related matters. In a statement, Sarwar said it was a great honour to be asked to join the government. He said public service has always been the driving force behind his political career. He added that serving the entire United Kingdom in the new role is a responsibility he accepts with humility and determination. Sarwar also reflected on Scottish Labour’s disappointing performance in the recent Scottish Parliament elections. The party won only 17 seats in the 129-member parliament, its worst result on record. He admitted that he shares responsibility for the defeat and said he was sorry that the party had failed to meet expectations. Despite the setback, Sarwar said the country faces serious political and economic challenges that require strong leadership. He warned that the rise of right-wing politics presents a major test for the United Kingdom. He said the Labour government must succeed in delivering stability, economic growth and better opportunities for people across the country. Following his resignation, Scottish Labour deputy leader Dame Jackie Baillie has taken over as acting leader. She thanked Sarwar for his leadership and praised his commitment to equality, fairness and public service. She said the party’s executive committee will soon announce the timetable for electing a new permanent leader. Sarwar’s departure from the Scottish Parliament will not trigger a by-election because he was elected through the regional list system. Under parliamentary rules, the next eligible Labour candidate on the Glasgow regional list is expected to replace him. His decision has sparked strong political debate. Opposition parties accused him of changing his position after previously supporting the abolition of the House of Lords. Critics also pointed to his earlier statements in which he said his main goal was to become Scotland’s first minister and remain focused on Scottish politics. Political leaders offered mixed reactions to the announcement. Some congratulated Sarwar on his new role and wished him success in government. Others argued that accepting a seat in the House of Lords contradicts his previous promises and could damage public confidence in politics.

PTI to file contempt plea over Imran Khan hospital…

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will approach the Supreme Court over what it describes as the government’s failure to implement its order regarding Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said the party would file a contempt petition on Saturday. He alleged that the authorities did not comply with the court’s directions and failed to constitute the medical board ordered by the Supreme Court. The development follows the government’s decision to take Imran Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a medical examination instead of Shifa International Hospital. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Imran was taken to PIMS during the night between August 20 and 21 because of security concerns around Shifa Hospital. According to Tarar, doctors from Shifa were present during the examination, while a team comprising specialists examined Imran and declared him medically fit. He said Imran was later taken back to Adiala jail at around 5am. Raja rejected the government’s explanation, saying there was no unusual rush on the roads leading to Shifa. He also claimed that Imran’s personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, was taken to the hospital in a police-escorted vehicle. The PTI leader said the party’s political and parliamentary committees were meeting to determine its next course of action. He also reiterated that PTI had already announced plans for street protests over the issue. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan separately criticised the government’s handling of the matter. He questioned how political negotiations could continue when, according to him, a clear Supreme Court order had not been implemented. Gohar said the party had been assured that the court’s directions would be followed. He argued that the order clearly required Imran to be shifted to a hospital for treatment and undergo medical tests. He also questioned why the PTI leadership and Imran’s family were not properly informed about the transfer and medical examination. “You do not shake hands like this. Negotiations do not happen like this,” Gohar said while responding to the government’s offer for political dialogue. Speaking in the National Assembly, he warned that PTI could reconsider its participation in Parliament. He said the party would decide within a few days whether it would continue attending the assembly. Opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai also raised questions over the overnight transfer. He said people had expected Imran to be taken to Shifa after the Supreme Court order, but later learned that he had been taken to another hospital. Achakzai expressed concern that elements within the government could be attempting to damage prospects for political dialogue between PTI and the government. The controversy stems from a Supreme Court order issued earlier this week directing that Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for treatment for several days. The court also ordered weekly meetings between Imran and his family and allowed access to his personal physician. The court directed that a medical board comprising an ophthalmologist, general physician and cardiologist be formed, with Dr Faisal Sultan and Imran’s sister, Dr Uzma Khan, associated with the process. The Supreme Court also ordered that Imran’s medical reports remain confidential and should not be used for political purposes. It instructed PTI supporters and lawyers not to hold political activities or press conferences outside the hospital.
