Accused architect of Rohingya persecution Min Aung Hlaing arrives in Thailand for official state visit

Myanmar’s military leader Min Aung Hlaing has arrived in Thailand for an official state visit, marking his first international trip to a neighbouring democracy since assuming the role of civilian president following highly contested national elections.

The visit comes despite international condemnation surrounding Min Aung Hlaing’s role as the chief commander responsible for the 2017 campaign of mass violence and expulsion against Muslim Rohingyas in Rakhine State.

Already subject to Western sanctions and target of an International Criminal Court arrest warrant application for crimes against humanity, the former general faces renewed calls for accountability.

Human rights organisations, including the Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK, have petitioned international judiciaries to coordinate with Thai authorities to execute active arrest warrants regarding acts of genocide and persecution.

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul received Min Aung Hlaing with full diplomatic honours at Government House in Bangkok, including an official guard of honour and a scheduled state dinner. The two leaders are set to preside over a bilateral business forum aimed at bolstering economic ties, cross-border security, and trade infrastructure between the nations.

Thailand’s formal reception of Min Aung Hlaing highlights a policy of “calibrated re-engagement” with Naypyidaw, separating Bangkok from several Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) members that continue to exclude Myanmar’s leadership over unfulfilled peace commitments.

While Thai officials maintain that direct high-level dialogue is essential to address shared border concerns and transnational crime, rights campaigners argue that hosting the general grants undeserved diplomatic legitimacy to an administration accused of severe human rights violations.

Saudi Arabia rolls over $3bn loan to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia has extended the tenure of its $3 billion financial facility to Pakistan, providing significant relief to the country’s external financing position and reducing immediate repayment pressure. Federal Finance Minister confirmed the development, describing it as a timely boost for Pakistan’s economy. The financial support, which was initially arranged to help Pakistan meet its payment obligations to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was originally granted for a three-month period. With the extension now in place, Pakistan has gained additional fiscal breathing space as it continues to manage its external liabilities and strengthen foreign exchange reserves. Officials at the State Bank of Pakistan said the rollover of external financial support, amounting to $5 billion in total, has further reinforced the country’s foreign exchange position while easing short-term external payment obligations. According to government officials, Saudi Arabia currently holds $8 billion in deposits with Pakistan. They added that Pakistan had secured the $3 billion facility from the Kingdom in April this year. For the fiscal year 2026–27, Pakistan’s external financing requirement has declined to $21.5 billion, reflecting an improvement in the country’s financial outlook. Officials also noted that interest payments on foreign debt have fallen by nearly half a billion dollars, helping reduce the overall debt-servicing burden. The State Bank further revealed that Pakistan repaid $2.2 billion in external loans during July. Despite these repayments, Saudi Arabia’s decision to extend the loan has provided a crucial financial cushion, supporting economic stability and strengthening investor confidence.

Maya Khan shares empowering message for divorced women

Renowned Pakistani television host and actress Maya Khan has released an empowering video message dedicated to divorced women, urging them to stop punishing themselves, release past regrets, and embrace life after a failed marriage. Drawing from her own personal experiences—including navigating an unhappy marriage and a difficult public divorce—Maya opened up about the emotional hurdles of moving forward. The actress, who recently won praise for her performances in hit television dramas like Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, Milkiyat, and Baray Bhaiyya, shared how societal pressures and self-doubt often trap women in cycles of guilt. In her video message, Maya addressed the common struggle of accepting past mistakes, emphasizing that intelligent and capable individuals frequently fall victim to harsh self-blame after a relationship ends: ”Stop punishing yourself. It’s hard to accept your mistakes because, as human beings, we all believe we are educated, wise, and intelligent. We often think, ‘How could I possibly make a wrong decision?’ According to the world, I was wise, so how could I go wrong? How could one wrong person make me feel weak, trivial, and unimportant? The girl who appeared strong on the outside was actually very weak on the inside during her difficult days—but that’s enough now.” Reflecting on her journey, Maya revealed how her former husband previously took away her savings, compounding the personal hardship she faced during her split. However, rather than dwelling on past betrayal, she reframed those difficult chapters as invaluable life lessons. She encouraged women to view painful experiences as blessings in disguise that build resilience and inner wisdom. Urging her followers to let go of self-blame, Maya advised them to gather the lessons learned from adversity and channel that strength into building a brighter, independent future. The inspiring video drew widespread appreciation across social media platforms, with fans, followers, and fellow industry figures applauding Maya for using her platform to break the stigma surrounding divorce and offering compassionate guidance to women rebuilding their lives.

Yemen’s Ansarullah movement claims attack on two Saudi oil tankers

Yemen’s Houthi-aligned Ansarullah movement has claimed responsibility for targeting two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, alleging that the vessels violated a newly declared naval blockade imposed by the group against Saudi Arabia. According to Saudi state media, a Saudi-owned tanker, identified as the Encelia, was struck while transiting the Red Sea, resulting in a fire at the vessel’s bow. Saudi authorities confirmed that the crew managed to contain the fire safely and that no casualties or environmental damage were reported. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and maritime security group Vanguard had earlier reported a missile strike on a tanker approximately 70 nautical miles southwest of Al Shuqaiq, Saudi Arabia. The vessel’s captain reported that the fire was caused by an incoming projectile. The strike follows Ansarullah’s formal declaration of a naval blockade targeting vessels bound for or operating near Saudi ports. An Ansarullah spokesperson stated that the blockade was enacted in direct response to the siege on Yemen, specifically citing the ongoing closure of Sanaa International Airport, and warned that maritime restrictions would match those imposed on Yemeni airspace.

US accused of hitting LPG tanker as Bahrain, Kuwai…

New, unverified claims from Iranian media and an American newspaper have added another layer of uncertainty to the escalating tensions in the Gulf, with allegations that the United States mistakenly struck an LPG tanker in the Gulf of Oman while Bahrain and Kuwait secretly carried out airstrikes inside Iran. According to Iran’s state-affiliated media, a US missile attack targeted an LPG tanker in the Gulf of Oman after it was allegedly mistaken for a vessel transporting Iranian gas. The reports claimed that two crew members were killed in the strike and that the ship’s engine room was destroyed, leaving the tanker disabled at sea. No official statement has been issued by Washington regarding the reported incident, and the claims have not been independently verified. In a separate development, The Wall Street Journal reported that Bahrain and Kuwait conducted covert air operations against military targets inside Iran earlier this month. The report alleged that the strikes targeted drone facilities and missile stockpiles as part of a broader regional effort to weaken Iran’s military capabilities. The newspaper further claimed that the United Arab Emirates assisted the operations by providing intelligence on Iranian targets and offering air defence support during the missions. Despite the significance of the allegations, neither Bahrain, Kuwait, the UAE nor the United States has publicly confirmed or denied the reported operations. Independent verification of the claims also remains unavailable. The reports emerge at a time of heightened regional instability, with the Gulf witnessing increased military activity and growing concerns over the security of international shipping routes. Analysts say any confirmed expansion of military involvement by Gulf states could further complicate the already volatile security situation in the Middle East. Until official confirmations are issued, the reported US strike on the tanker and the alleged covert air raids inside Iran should be treated as unverified claims originating from media reports rather than established facts.
