Doomsday has kicked off its theatrical journey with remarkable momentum, generating an estimated $16.5 million in advance ticket sales on its first day. The impressive start highlights the enormous excitement surrounding Marvel Studios’ next superhero epic and signals strong audience interest months before its December release.

The studio opened ticket bookings alongside the launch of the film’s first official trailer, giving fans a glimpse of the highly anticipated story. The preview hints at an unprecedented alliance between the Avengers and the X-Men as they prepare to face one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains, Doctor Doom.

The first-day ticket sales are particularly significant because bookings were initially limited to premium-format screenings in around 1,000 cinemas across North America. Despite the restricted availability, demand proved exceptionally strong, with several premium showings for the opening days selling out within hours.

Avengers: Doomsday is set for a much wider release on December 18, expanding to more than 4,000 theaters across North America. Cinema operators are reportedly increasing the number of showtimes throughout the Christmas holiday period to accommodate the growing demand from moviegoers eager to secure opening-week tickets.

One notable aspect of the advance sales is that IMAX screenings were not included, as those screens are expected to remain dedicated to Dune: Part III following its release. Industry expectations for Avengers: Doomsday continue to rise following its impressive ticket presales. Early figures suggest that the film’s first-day advance bookings have significantly outpaced those of Deadpool & Wolverine, one of 2024’s biggest box office successes. That film opened to more than $200 million domestically before surpassing $1.3 billion in worldwide earnings.

While the early sales indicate an enormous opening, it remains to be seen how the film will perform throughout the competitive holiday season. December releases often benefit from extended theatrical runs, but they also face strong competition from other major titles.

Marvel’s last major crossover event, Avengers: Endgame, became a global phenomenon in 2019, breaking numerous box office records and concluding the Infinity Saga. Since then, the studio has experienced mixed results at the box office, although ensemble-driven productions have consistently delivered the strongest performances.

Recent hits such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Deadpool & Wolverine demonstrated that audiences continue to embrace large-scale crossover stories featuring beloved Marvel characters. Avengers: Doomsday aims to build on that success by bringing together some of the franchise’s most iconic heroes alongside fan-favorite X-Men characters.

Adding further excitement is its simultaneous release with Dune: Part III, creating one of the most anticipated box office clashes in recent years. The matchup has already generated widespread discussion among movie fans, with many predicting one of the biggest theatrical weekends in cinema history.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, Avengers: Doomsday marks the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Speaking during the weekly media briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan appreciates that the report acknowledges the country’s legislative progress and continued implementation of the 27 international conventions linked to the GSP+ programme. However, he said the overall assessment presents an unbalanced picture by placing greater emphasis on areas where progress has been slower while overlooking broader reforms. Andrabi said Pakistan has introduced wide-ranging legal, administrative, and institutional reforms since joining the GSP+ scheme in 2014. He maintained that these reforms have strengthened governance, improved labour protections, promoted human rights, and supported sustainable economic development. The spokesperson described GSP+ as one of the most important pillars of Pakistan’s economic partnership with the European Union. He said the preferential trade arrangement has played a significant role in boosting exports, creating employment opportunities, increasing women’s participation in the workforce, reducing poverty, and supporting economic growth. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to constructive dialogue with the European Commission and other European institutions. According to Andrabi, the government remains fully committed to implementing international conventions and continuing reforms aimed at meeting its obligations under the GSP+ framework. He also highlighted that Pakistan’s cooperation with the European Union extends beyond trade. Both sides continue to work together in areas including climate resilience, migration, regional security, counterterrorism, development, connectivity, education, and economic cooperation. During the same briefing, the Foreign Office also rejected allegations made in a recent Amnesty International report regarding Pakistani military strikes in Kabul earlier this year. Andrabi said Pakistan completely rejects the claims, arguing that the report contains serious allegations without credible evidence. He maintained that any military action taken by Pakistan was carried out solely in self-defence and targeted terrorist hideouts and logistical facilities. He said the operations were conducted only after other options had been exhausted and fully complied with the principles of necessity, distinction, proportionality, and precaution under international law. He added that Pakistan exercised restraint despite facing repeated cross-border terrorist attacks. The spokesperson urged the international community to focus greater attention on militant groups operating from Afghan territory. He said organisations such as the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), and other affiliated groups continue to maintain bases and carry out attacks against Pakistan from across the border. Andrabi called on the Afghan Taliban authorities to fulfil their international commitments by preventing terrorist organisations from using Afghan territory for attacks against neighbouring countries. He said the continued presence of militant groups poses a serious threat to regional peace and security. The Foreign Office reiterated that Pakistan reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its citizens. Andrabi said no responsible state can ignore repeated attacks on its people and security forces.

Separately, Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Rezaei, a member of the parliament’s National Security Commission, warned that any future attack on Iran would have devastating consequences for the region. Meanwhile, Kuwait strongly condemned what it described as Iranian aggression after reporting drone attacks on key facilities. In a separate development, Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has introduced a new legal framework for e-commerce platforms to improve consumer protection and regulate the country’s rapidly growing online marketplace. The regulations were introduced under Ministerial Resolution No. 109 of 2026 and officially came into force on July 8. They apply to all digital platforms involved in selling, ordering and delivering products within Kuwait. The new rules clearly define the responsibilities of online platforms, merchants, delivery companies and consumers. Officials said the regulations are intended to create a more transparent business environment while encouraging fair competition and supporting future investment in the digital economy. Under the updated framework, companies operating electronic platforms must obtain the required licences and comply with existing laws.
