BJP removes misattributed Pakistan highway video

India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced criticism after sharing a video from Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region to highlight India’s development achievements.

The video was posted on the BJP’s official social media account. It was presented as an example of the progress of a “new India.” The caption claimed that India was not only dreaming of development but also turning those dreams into reality.

However, social media users quickly identified the footage as a highway located in Gilgit-Baltistan, a region administered by Pakistan. The video was not related to any Indian development project.

The footage was originally created by Pakistani digital content creator Northern Vibes. The creator has a large following on Instagram and regularly shares travel and landscape videos from northern areas of Pakistan.

After noticing that the BJP had used the video, Northern Vibes shared a screenshot of the post on social media. The creator questioned how a road in Baltistan was being shown as part of India’s infrastructure progress.

The content creator also alleged that the video had been used without permission and described it as unauthorized use of original content.

The issue quickly gained attention online, with many users criticizing the BJP for sharing unverified material. Several social media users accused the party of using misleading content to promote its political message.

The criticism intensified as more users pointed out the actual location shown in the video. The controversy also sparked discussions about digital copyright, content ownership and the need to verify online material before publishing it through official accounts.

Following the growing backlash, the BJP removed the video from its official social media platform.

Pope Leo urges end to West Bank violence

Pope Leo has called for an immediate end to violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. Speaking after the Angelus prayer at his residence in Castel Gandolfo near Rome, the Pope expressed concern over repeated violence targeting Palestinian civilians. He urged the international community to take practical steps to help end the conflict and advance efforts for a two-state solution. The Pope said lasting peace would require a fair political settlement that guarantees the rights and security of both Palestinians and Israelis. His comments come amid growing tensions in several parts of the West Bank. Violence involving Israeli settlers and Palestinians has increased, while restrictions and confrontations have added to concerns among local residents. The situation in the village of Qusra has also drawn attention. Reports have described severe restrictions on residents, including disruptions to essential services and movement. Rights organisations have raised concerns that increasing settler activity and pressure on Palestinian communities could contribute to further displacement and the expansion of Israeli settlements. The Vatican has consistently supported the establishment of a Palestinian state as part of a negotiated two-state settlement. More than 150 of the 193 UN member states recognise Palestine. The future of the West Bank remains one of the central issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Palestinians seek the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem as the basis of an independent state. Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank has remained a major source of international criticism. Palestinian officials and rights groups say the continued expansion threatens the possibility of establishing a viable Palestinian state. The Israeli government, however, disputes the international characterisation of the West Bank as occupied territory and considers it disputed land.

Gold prices surge in global and Pakistan markets

Karachi: Gold prices witnessed a significant increase in both international and local markets on Tuesday, driven by strong gains in the global bullion market. The latest surge pushed gold to new record levels, impacting precious metal prices across Pakistan. According to market data, the international bullion market recorded a $47 increase per ounce, taking the global gold price to $4,068 per ounce. The sharp rise reflects continued investor demand for safe-haven assets amid global economic uncertainty and market volatility. Following the upward trend in international markets, Pakistan’s local bullion market also experienced a notable jump in gold prices. The price of 24-karat gold per tola increased by Rs4,700, reaching Rs429,236. The increase marks one of the most significant single-day gains in recent weeks. Similarly, the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold climbed by Rs4,029, bringing the new rate to Rs368,000. The latest price hike is expected to affect jewelry buyers and investors, as demand for gold typically fluctuates with changes in international market trends. Silver prices also followed the upward trajectory. The price of silver per tola increased by Rs219, reaching Rs6,396, while the price of 10 grams of silver rose by Rs188 to Rs5,483. Experts believe that local precious metal prices will continue to remain closely linked to international bullion market movements and fluctuations in the exchange rate. Any further increase in global gold prices or changes in economic conditions could lead to additional price adjustments in Pakistan’s bullion market. Investors and consumers are advised to monitor daily gold and silver rates before making purchasing or investment decisions, as prices remain highly sensitive to global economic developments and market sentiment.

Mir Raza’s father says new probe is moving in ri…

KARACHI: The father of young Karachi resident Mir Raza has expressed confidence in the newly formed investigation team. He said he felt, for the first time in 13 days, that the investigation was moving in the right direction. Mir Raza’s parents, lawyer Jibran Nasir and members of the new investigation team visited locations connected to the case. The visit was aimed at reviewing important points and gathering information that could help investigators understand what happened. Jibran Nasir said the family had identified several important locations on its own. These locations were later shown to the police. He said Mir Raza’s parents were cooperating fully with the investigators and answering their questions. Nasir said the investigation team was waiting for the results of samples collected during the post-mortem examination. He said additional samples obtained after the exhumation had also been sent to a forensic laboratory. The lawyer said the family now believed that an honest and serious officer was handling the investigation. He said the family had earlier faced difficulties in getting the matter investigated properly. Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain, said the family still wanted clear answers about his son’s death. He said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident had not yet been established. According to him, the initial investigation should have been more effective. He said timely and proper action at the beginning could have taken the case to a different stage. Mir Hussain said the new investigation team was listening to the family’s concerns. He said investigators were considering the information provided by the parents. The family, he added, now had greater confidence in the process. He said the main objective was to establish what happened to Mir Raza and how the incident took place. The family wanted every aspect of the case to be examined. Mir Hussain said Mir Raza’s kitchen was located around half a kilometre from the site of the incident. He also said information about three suspicious individuals had already been shared with the police. The victim’s father further alleged that the previous investigation team had not properly shared details of the inquiry with the family. He hoped the new team would maintain transparency and investigate the case from all possible angles. The family said it would continue cooperating with investigators. Mir Hussain said they would pursue the case as far as necessary to uncover the truth and obtain justice for Mir Raza. Investigators are now expected to examine forensic evidence, statements and other available information. The reports from the forensic laboratory could also play an important role in determining the circumstances surrounding the case.
