CBFC orders cuts in Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 b…

Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited film Awarapan 2 has officially received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but only after several significant edits were made. The film has been awarded a U/A 16+ certificate, allowing viewers aged 16 and above to watch it under parental guidance.

The CBFC approved the film on August 5, 2026, with a final runtime of 140 minutes and 20 seconds. However, before granting certification, the board instructed the filmmakers to implement changes at nine different points throughout the movie.

According to reports, the CBFC asked the makers to tone down violent sequences, remove certain objectionable words from both the audio and subtitles, and include mandatory health warnings related to smoking and drug use. The board also directed the filmmakers to display the Hindi title prominently and ensure that anti-smoking messages remain visible during scenes featuring tobacco use.

In addition, the certification body required a warning related to child trafficking to be included in the film. Some action scenes were shortened to reduce the intensity of violence, while one particular sequence was reportedly cut by nearly 50 percent. A scene involving drug inhalation was also modified to comply with certification guidelines. The end credits were adjusted to better align with the background music.

Overall, approximately four minutes of footage were removed, while another 20 seconds of content were altered. Despite these edits, the film’s official runtime remains unchanged at 140 minutes and 20 seconds.

Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi alongside Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in key roles. The film serves as the sequel to the 2007 hit Awarapan and continues the emotional storytelling of the original while introducing a darker, revenge-driven narrative.

Produced by Vishesh Bhatt, the sequel also reunites composer Mithoon and lyricist Sayeed Quadri. Fans can look forward to refreshed versions of the iconic songs “To Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta,” along with several new tracks created specifically for the film.

With the required CBFC changes now completed, Awarapan 2 is set for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026. The film is expected to attract both longtime fans of the original and new audiences eager to see Emraan Hashmi return to one of his most memorable franchises.

    FIFA President Gianni Infantino has issued a strong defence of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, accusing critics of focusing on controversy while overlooking what he described as a tournament that united millions of people around the world. In an open letter published on Monday and shared on his personal social media accounts as well as FIFA’s official platforms, Infantino responded to criticism surrounding the tournament, which was jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico and won by Spain. The FIFA chief argued that many detractors ignored the positive impact of the competition and instead concentrated on negative narratives. He praised the atmosphere created by fans and highlighted football’s ability to bring people together across generations. Addressing critics directly, Infantino wrote, “To all of you who missed watching kids, babies, grandparents, and parents come together for the beautiful game, I say sorry that the matches are now over and sorry that you missed all that joy and togetherness.” He continued, “Sorry that you were so consumed by hate and criticism that you missed it all.” The 56-year-old also appeared to criticise journalists and commentators, claiming that while FIFA had worked tirelessly to organise a successful tournament, others had focused on spreading misinformation. “To those behind their pens and papers, behind their screens spreading hate and false rumours, I want to say that while you are sitting behind, we at FIFA are on the front lines organising, working hard, and delivering the best show in the world,” he wrote.     Gold prices rise in Pakistan

      KARACHI: Gold prices climbed in Pakistan on Monday, even though international gold rates experienced a slight decline. The increase in local prices was mainly attributed to continued uncertainty surrounding the Middle East conflict, concerns over rising inflation, and investor caution ahead of key US economic data expected later this week. According to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association, the price of 24-karat gold increased by Rs1,700 per tola, taking it to Rs428,436. Similarly, the price of 10 grams of goldrose by Rs1,457, reaching Rs367,314. The latest increase came after a significant decline on Saturday, when gold prices had fallen by Rs3,700 per tola to settle at Rs426,736. In contrast, the international gold market remained under slight pressure. Spot gold slipped by 0.1% to $4,037.01 per ounce, while US gold futures for August delivery declined by 0.3% to $4,035.80 per ounce during trading. Despite the minor drop, analysts believe global investors remain cautious because of ongoing geopolitical tensions and expectations of fresh economic developments in the United States. Silver prices in Pakistan also moved higher. The price of silver gained Rs54 per tola, taking it to Rs6,291, reflecting continued demand for precious metals in the local market. Adnan Agar, Director at Interactive Commodities, said that international gold prices had eased slightly after fluctuating throughout the trading session. According to him, gold touched a high of $4,080 per ounce before falling to a low of$4,019, eventually stabilising near $4,038. He noted that gold remains under pressure and the market is closely monitoring upcoming US economic indicators, particularly employment data, which could influence the Federal Reserve’s future monetary policy decisions. Agar added that gold has remained within a broad trading range of approximately $3,950 to $4,250 per ounce since June. However, he expects this range to break within the next one or two weeks, potentially leading to a stronger upward or downward price movement depending on market conditions. Market participants are now awaiting a series of important US labour market reports, as these will provide further insight into the Federal Reserve’s interest rate outlook. Higher interest rates generally reduce the appeal of non-yielding assets like gold, while expectations of rate cuts tend to support bullion prices. Another factor attracting attention in the global market is reports that South Korea’s central bank intends to purchase gold from domestic producers, a move that could provide additional support to demand in the coming months. Meanwhile, oil markets have also remained highly volatile. Brent crude futures surged by more than 20% last month, driven largely by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, raising concerns that higher energy prices could fuel inflation worldwide. Edward Meir, an analyst at Marex, said gold has traded within a narrow range of $4,000 to $4,200 per ounce for over a month. He explained that the possibility of inflation picking up again, particularly after July’s economic data, is helping support gold prices despite the recent weakness. Separately, the Pakistani rupee posted another modest gain against the US dollar. The local currency appreciated by 0.01%, closing at Rs277.77 per dollar, compared with Rs277.80 at the end of the previous trading session, reflecting continued stability in the foreign exchange market.

    Islamabad: Concerns over increasing cases of gender based violence and the protection of women and children came under discussion as the National Assembly Standing Committee on Human Rights reviewed government efforts to prevent crimes, improve investigations and provide better support to victims. The committee questioned whether existing systems are strong enough to protect victims and ensure quick justice, while calling for clearer laws, wider awareness campaigns and improved access to support services. The 13th meeting of the committee reviewed the performance of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW), government measures against violence and progress on previous recommendations. The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Asiya Naz Tanoli, with Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Barrister Danyal Chaudhry serving as co chair.   During the briefing, NCSW informed the committee that its complaint management system has been active for the last five months to help women report problems and receive support. Officials said consultants working on the complaint system received special training with support from Rozan to improve complaint handling. The committee was also informed that gender based data is being updated through the National Gender Data Portal to help the government make better policies based on facts. Officials said the first Gender Parity Report has already been published and future reports will include provincial level information. The committee was informed that NCSW has also conducted media training sessions to improve reporting of rape and gender violence cases. Officials said journalists were trained to report such sensitive cases with responsibility, dignity and care for victims. The Ministry of Human Rights told the committee that reported cases of gender based violence increased between 2022 and 2024, leading authorities to strengthen special investigation units and women and child protection units. Officials said police officers and relevant staff received specialised training while complaint systems were improved to provide faster support to victims. Barrister Danyal Chaudhry stressed that awareness about harassment laws is necessary in both public and private institutions. He said people must understand their rights and responsibilities so that victims can seek help and legal procedures remain clear for everyone involved. He also called for removing confusion around the definition of harassment so that both complainants and accused persons understand their legal position. The parliamentary secretary recommended wider promotion of the Ministry of Human Rights 1099 helpline and the 1121 child helpline through newspapers, pamphlets and other awareness campaigns. He said many people are unaware of available support services and greater publicity can help victims reach authorities quickly. Committee member Shahida Rahmani suggested presenting a real rape case as a case study before the committee. She said studying actual cases could help lawmakers prepare practical recommendations to improve the justice system. The Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights informed the committee that some countries provide free trial systems for rape victims. He suggested that Pakistan should examine the possibility of introducing a similar system to make justice safer, easier and more accessible for victims.
