CCTV exposes couple behind Karachi motorcycle thef…

Karachi Police have arrested a woman allegedly involved in a series of motorcycle thefts during an operation in the Soldier Bazaar area. The suspect, identified as Sehar Batool, was taken into custody after police acted on intelligence and analyzed CCTV footage. Her husband, who is also wanted in connection with the case, managed to flee and remains at large.

According to police officials, the couple is suspected of carrying out numerous motorcycle lifting incidents across different parts of Karachi. Investigators believe they worked together to target parked motorcycles before fleeing the scene with the stolen vehicles.

Authorities said CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspects. The recordings reportedly captured the husband and wife taking away motorcycles, providing investigators with key evidence that led to the woman’s arrest.

During the operation, police also recovered a motorcycle from the suspect’s possession. Officials are verifying whether the recovered vehicle matches any of the motorcycles reported stolen in recent cases.

A criminal case has been registered against the arrested woman and her absconding husband under the relevant legal provisions. Police have launched a search operation to locate the fugitive suspect while continuing their investigation to determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged theft network.

Law enforcement authorities have urged motorcycle owners to take preventive measures, including parking their vehicles in secure locations, using reliable locking systems, and reporting suspicious activity to the police. Officials say public cooperation, along with surveillance technology, continues to play an important role in tackling vehicle theft across the city.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police expect further developments as efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspect and recover additional stolen motorcycles.

PTI rally sparks clashes, gridlock in Karachi

A protest organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Karachi turned violent on Tuesday after party workers gathered near Fountain Chowk to express solidarity with PTI founder Imran Khan, leading to clashes with police, multiple arrests, and widespread traffic disruption. Hundreds of PTI supporters assembled at the protest site, chanting slogans and demanding the release of the party’s founder. The situation escalated when some protesters allegedly pelted police with stones as law enforcement attempted to prevent the gathering from moving forward. Police responded by firing tear gas shells and launching a baton charge to disperse the crowd and regain control of the area. The confrontation created panic among protesters and passersby, while security personnel moved in to clear the protest site and restore order. During the crackdown, police detained several PTI leaders and workers, including PTI Sindh Secretary General Dr. Masroor Siyal. Authorities have yet to confirm the total number of arrests or provide details about any injuries sustained during the clashes. The demonstration also brought traffic in parts of Karachi to a standstill. Roads surrounding Governor House, Metropole, Shaheen Complex, and nearby commercial areas witnessed severe congestion as police blocked several routes and diverted traffic. Long queues of vehicles formed across the city center, leaving commuters stranded for hours and disrupting routine business activity. The protest formed part of PTI’s ongoing campaign to show support for its jailed founder, with party workers continuing to hold demonstrations in different parts of the country despite heightened security measures and police action.

Trump furious over US weapons shortages as Iran te…

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has grown increasingly angry over reports that the country’s stockpile of key munitions has been significantly depleted during the conflict with Iran, fearing the disclosures could undermine Washington’s leverage as he pushes Tehran toward a deal. Senior US officials told CNN that the issue became a major point of discussion during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David last week. Trump was reportedly frustrated not only by the shortages but by the publication of details about US weapons inventories at a sensitive moment in the conflict. Several officials said Trump had known for months that certain munitions were in limited supply and was not surprised by the underlying situation. His concern, they said, was that public reporting could weaken the image of US military strength while he threatens further action against Iran. Trump sought to push back publicly, saying the United States has “massive amounts” of munitions and that weapons production is expanding. He also threatened severe punishment for officials responsible for leaking classified or sensitive information. However, Trump acknowledged in remarks at the White House that some advanced weapons are in tighter supply, while insisting there is a virtually unlimited supply of less sophisticated weaponry. White House officials said Trump has not blamed Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth for the situation and continues to express confidence in his leadership. Instead, the president has directed the Justice Department to investigate what he described as “treasonous” leaks from within his administration. The concerns have intensified after reports indicated that US forces have used a large share of their air-defence interceptors since the conflict began. CNN reported that the military had consumed nearly four-fifths of its pre-war THAAD missile inventory and about half of its Patriot interceptors. The reported shortages have also alarmed US partners in the Gulf, many of whom rely heavily on American air-defence systems. Regional officials have warned that reduced US stocks could make it harder to defend against potential Iranian missile and drone attacks if Washington launches further strikes. Iran has reportedly warned Gulf countries that renewed US attacks could trigger retaliation against energy infrastructure and desalination facilities across the region. Trump has spoken with leaders in Qatar and Saudi Arabia as his administration weighs its next steps. Senior military advisers have repeatedly raised concerns about dwindling stocks during discussions over potential escalation. The issue predates the current crisis. US military leaders had warned before the war that a prolonged campaign could strain American weapons supplies, particularly after years of support for Israel and Ukraine. Trump has blamed the previous administration for contributing to depleted stockpiles through weapons deliveries to Ukraine, while also acknowledging that the United States needs greater reserves. The administration has moved to expand production, including invoking the Defense Production Act and meeting with major defence contractors such as Lockheed Martin. However, officials acknowledge that expanding weapons manufacturing capacity could take years, meaning increased production may not immediately solve the shortage.

RLNG prices jump up to 34.6% amid supply disruptio…

ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased the prices of re-gasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) by up to 34.6% for July 2026, as continued disruptions in LNG supplies from Qatar forced Pakistan to rely on expensive spot market imports. According to an official notification, consumers of Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) will face the largest increase. The RLNG price for SSGC consumers has been fixed at $25.087 per MMBtu, following an increase of $6.4512 per MMBtu, representing a 34.6% rise. Consumers of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) will also pay higher rates. The regulator fixed the RLNG price at $25.8388 per MMBtu, an increase of $6.316 per MMBtu, or 32.35%, compared with the previous month. Officials said the latest increase was mainly driven by a sharp decline in LNG imports during July. Pakistan received only five LNG cargoes throughout the month, making it the third-lowest monthly import volume since the country started importing LNG. The reduced supply forced the country to purchase all available LNG cargoes from the international spot market, where prices are generally much higher and more volatile than long-term contractual rates. Energy officials said state-owned Pakistan LNG Limited arranged all five cargoes from the spot market. Meanwhile, Pakistan did not receive any LNG shipments under its long-term agreements with Qatar during the month. The interruption in Qatari supplies has continued since damage to energy infrastructure earlier this year, affecting LNG exports to several countries in Asia and Europe, including Pakistan. Experts said the absence of lower-cost LNG from long-term contracts has significantly increased Pakistan’s import bill and placed additional pressure on the country’s energy sector. Since the regional conflict in the Middle East began earlier this year, RLNG prices in Pakistan have risen by more than 144%, making energy substantially more expensive for industries, businesses and other consumers.

A religious scholar affiliated with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was shot dead by unidentified attackers in the Azam Warsak area of Birmal tehsil in Lower South Waziristan, police said on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Maulana Muhammad Ismail. According to police, the attack took place shortly after Friday prayers when unidentified gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on the cleric. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene before he could receive medical assistance. The attackers fled immediately after carrying out the shooting. Police launched a search operation in the area, but no arrests have been made so far. District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Tahir confirmed the incident and said an initial case has been registered.
