Coach hails Fatima’s bronze, urges women’s boxing support

Veteran Pakistani boxing coach and former international boxer Arshad Hussain has praised Fatima Zehra for securing a rare bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, saying her achievement reflects the untapped potential of Pakistan’s female boxers.

Arshad, who has himself competed at the Commonwealth Games, said winning a medal at the prestigious event was a major accomplishment, particularly in women’s boxing.

Speaking about Fatima’s performance, he said she had to overcome strong international competition and win two bouts to secure the bronze medal. He stressed that athletes competing at the Commonwealth level face opponents from countries against whom Pakistani boxers often have limited experience.

Arshad also called for greater attention to women’s boxing in Pakistan. He said the country has several promising female fighters who could achieve significant success if provided with proper coaching, international exposure and regular training opportunities.

He identified Fatima Zehra, Malaika and Maria among the boxers with considerable potential. According to him, these athletes should be given opportunities to train abroad for several months so they can improve their technical skills and gain valuable international experience.

The veteran coach also expressed disappointment over boxer Qudratullah’s decision to leave Pakistan after participating in the Commonwealth Games. He described him as a talented fighter and questioned the circumstances that led to his disappearance from the national setup.

While assessing the performance of Pakistan’s male boxers at the Games, Arshad said they produced competitive performances but lacked the required technical and physical sharpness. He maintained that better preparation could help them compete more effectively at the international level.

Arshad further highlighted the need for sustained government support for boxing. He recalled Pakistan’s strong history in the sport and argued that short training camps were insufficient to prepare athletes for major international competitions.

He questioned how Pakistan could expect medals when boxers were given only a 20-day camp before the Commonwealth Games, saying even much longer preparation does not guarantee success at that level.

Looking ahead to the Asian Games, Arshad remained cautious about Pakistan’s medal chances. He said the competition would be significantly tougher, with major boxing nations including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Japan, China and the Philippines expected to compete.

‘Patriotism has no single definition’: CJP lea…

NEW DELHI: Abhijeet Deepke, leader of India’s Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has criticised the Indian government after being labelled a national security threat, saying patriotism should not be defined according to the government’s expectations. Speaking in an interview with an American television channel, Deepke said he considered himself a patriot but rejected the idea that citizens must demonstrate their patriotism in a particular way prescribed by the authorities. Deepke said he was deeply disappointed by the government’s decision to portray him as a threat to national security after he spoke out against the system and established the CJP. He had been living in the United States as an Indian student while holding an Indian passport. The CJP leader said he had decided to return to India from the United States, describing the move as an opportunity to demonstrate his commitment to the country and challenge the allegations made against him. His remarks come amid heightened political tensions surrounding youth-led protests and growing criticism of the government over its handling of dissent and political opposition.

Permit documents reveal fresh details about Taylor…

Newly surfaced permit documents have offered fans a closer look at how Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce planned one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year. The superstar couple exchanged vows earlier this month during a lavish yet highly private ceremony at Madison Square Garden in New York City. While they have largely kept details of the celebration out of the public eye, official event permits have now revealed how carefully every aspect of the wedding was organized. According to documents obtained by the Associated Press, the main wedding celebration began at 5 p.m. and continued until 4 a.m. the following morning. The permits also outlined a multi-day schedule, with an intimate rehearsal dinner for approximately 100 guests taking place the evening before the ceremony, followed by the larger wedding celebration attended by around 1,000 guests.  The paperwork also confirmed that extensive road closures were approved around Madison Square Garden to accommodate guest arrivals, security operations and event logistics. Several nearby streets were temporarily closed, while police officers and traffic personnel were deployed throughout the area to manage crowds and ensure the safety of attendees. The large-scale security operation reflected the extraordinary level of public interest surrounding the wedding.  The newly revealed documents also highlight just how much planning went into maintaining the couple’s privacy. Reports indicated that the event featured a strict no-phone policy, while guests and staff were asked to follow confidentiality measures designed to prevent photos or videos from leaking online. Those efforts appear to have been successful, as very few authentic images from the ceremony have surfaced since the celebration.  Preparations inside Madison Square Garden were equally impressive. Sources previously revealed that the iconic venue was transformed into an elegant wedding setting featuring custom décor, greenery, canopies and a specially designed reception space while preserving the arena’s unique character.  The wedding reportedly brought together family members, close friends and a long list of celebrity guests from the worlds of music, sports and entertainment. Despite its grand scale, those in attendance have largely respected the couple’s wishes for privacy, allowing Taylor and Travis to celebrate away from constant public attention.  The permit documents provide the clearest picture yet of how the high-profile celebration was executed. From carefully timed arrivals and extensive security measures to a multi-day schedule, every detail reflected meticulous planning. While fans remain eager to learn more about the wedding, the newly released documents show that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce prioritized one thing above all else: creating a memorable celebration that remained intimate despite the world’s attention.

Jacob Elordi details real snake ordeal in Euphoria scene

Actor Jacob Elordi has candidly opened up about the grueling, claustrophobic reality behind filming his character Nate Jacobs’ gruesome death scene on Euphoria, revealing he spent two full days locked in a coffin with a live reptile. During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, hosted by his co-star Colman Domingo, Elordi discussed the extreme measures taken by series creator Sam Levinson to write off his polarizing character. Nate’s storyline reached a dark conclusion when he was buried alive by a gangster over a debt and subsequently killed by a snake bite while confined underground. Elordi joked about the demanding nature of his final weeks on set, quipping that Levinson brought him back specifically to torture him after weeks of continuous physical beatings and action sequences. ”I got locked in a coffin for two days straight with prosthetics and a fake tongue, and I couldn’t see out of my eyes. And then Sam put snakes into the coffin.” The sequence involved a real snake slithering down an air pipe into the tightly enclosed space. While the scene portrayed a deadly, aggressive rattlesnake on screen, the production actually utilized a docile boa constrictor fitted with a prosthetic rattler for the close-up interactions. Despite the sensory deprivation and intense claustrophobia required for the shot, Elordi admitted he surprisingly found the experience somewhat peaceful, noting that his serpentine scene partner proved far less threatening than anticipated. The actor revealed the snake was so calm that he had to physically nudge it during takes to get it to move and act menacingly for the camera. ”He had a very nice personality. He was very docile and very sleepy… He just kept curling up at my feet.” Elordi added that performing non-verbal reactions while trapped in the box made the physical strain easier to manage, calling the dramatic send-off a unique and memorable way to close his time on the hit series.

Karunaratne’s Gutsy knock Powers Galle Galla…

Chamika Karunaratne’s blistering 72 off 34 balls powered Galle Gallants to a commanding 43-run victory over Dambulla Sixers in the 14th match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 on Sunday at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium . Set a daunting target of 221, the Sixers were restricted to 176-6 in their 20 overs despite a brisk start from their openers . Sahibzada Farhan and Niroshan Dickwella provided early fireworks, adding 49 runs in the first three overs. Farhan scored 11 while Dickwella struck seven fours in his 32 off 19 balls . However, after the bright start, Gallants’ bowlers made a solid comeback to seize control of the chase . Sachindu Colombage sparked a collapse that reduced the Sixers to 98-6 inside 13 overs . Ramesh Mendis provided a flicker of hope with an unbeaten 39 off 22 balls, including a six and half a dozen fours, but with the asking rate climbing steeply, the task proved too steep for Dambulla . Earlier, opting to bat first, the Gallants demonstrated a commanding batting display, racking up 220-6 in their 20 overs . Sam Harper and Nurul Hasan raced to 40 in just 3.3 overs, with Hasan striking five fours and a six in his 29 off 13 deliveries . Following the early wicket, Charith Asalanka joined Harper in a half-century stand that took the total near the 100-run mark. Both batters made 31 and 41, respectively, before the Sixers removed the pair in the ninth over, leaving Gallants at 108-3 at the halfway mark . Just when Dambulla seemed to have stemmed the flow, Karunaratne launched a late assault, smashing six maximums and four boundaries in his 34-ball knock to propel the Gallants to a daunting total . For Dambulla Sixers, Dushmantha Chameera was the standout bowler, claiming five wickets . The comprehensive victory strengthens Gallants’ position in the LPL standings, while Dambulla will need to regroup after a disappointing batting collapse .

PM Shehbaz orders nationwide high alert

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed all federal and provincial authorities to remain on maximum alert and maintain full preparedness to tackle any emergency resulting from the ongoing monsoon rains and the flood situation affecting different parts of the country. The directive was issued during a high-level review meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday to assess the impact of the current monsoon spell and evaluate the government’s response to flooding and related emergencies. During the meeting, the Prime Minister directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to maintain close coordination with Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) and provincial governments. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that weather forecasts and monsoon-related alerts are shared promptly with all relevant federal and provincial institutions to support timely decision-making and emergency response. Shehbaz Sharif also tasked Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal with chairing daily meetings of the Flood Committee to closely monitor the evolving situation, review developments, and recommend appropriate measures to minimize the impact of heavy rainfall and flooding. Highlighting the risks in Pakistan’s mountainous regions, the Prime Minister stressed that the early warning system for Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and flash floods must remain fully operational. He underscored the need for constant vigilance in vulnerable northern areas where melting glaciers continue to pose a serious threat. The Prime Minister noted that although Pakistan contributes only a small fraction to global greenhouse gas emissions, it remains one of the countries most severely affected by climate change. He said the government is actively implementing short-term, medium-term, and long-term strategies aimed at reducing the country’s vulnerability to climate-related disasters and strengthening resilience against extreme weather events. Shehbaz Sharif instructed the NDMA, in collaboration with all relevant departments, to take every possible measure to protect lives, safeguard property, and strengthen disaster response efforts throughout the ongoing monsoon season. The meeting was attended by NDMA officials and chief secretaries from all four provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Participants received detailed briefings on recent rainfall, the extent of damages, and the progress of rescue, relief, and rehabilitation operations. Officials informed the meeting that the NDMA is providing full logistical support and resources to provincial governments to manage flood-related emergencies in northern regions, while also assisting authorities in responding to the ongoing heatwave affecting Sindh and Balochistan. The participants were also briefed that another heavy spell of monsoon rainfall is expected over the next two days in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and southern Sindh. A further nationwide spell of significant rainfall is forecast for the second week of September. The meeting was informed that the Flood Committee established on the Prime Minister’s instructions continues to hold regular meetings to monitor the situation and ensure the effective implementation of rescue, relief, and rehabilitation measures across the country. According to the latest figures presented during the briefing, the current monsoon season has claimed 110 lives, injured 360 people, damaged 796 houses, and caused the death of 376 livestock. Officials also highlighted that the ongoing El Niño phenomenon has accelerated glacier melting in Pakistan’s northern regions, increasing the likelihood of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods and flash floods over the coming month. Authorities have already identified high-risk areas and are taking preventive measures to reduce potential damage. The meeting was further informed that immediate action has helped bring urban flooding under control in central Punjab, including Lahore, while drainage operations continue in agricultural areas affected by floodwaters. Authorities also confirmed that the flood situation in Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby districts remains under control. Officials reported that timely operations have led to the reopening of roads at 106 locations, restoring connectivity in affected areas. The meeting was also told that the National Emergency and Telecommunication Centre, established by the Ministry of Information Technology, is fully operational, enabling Rescue 1122 teams to respond quickly to emergency calls from any mobile phone across the country. In addition, authorities have identified 700 locations nationwide for rainwater storage during the monsoon season. The initiative aims to conserve water for agricultural use during dry periods while improving long-term water management and climate resilience.
