Farooq Sattar calls for more provinces in Pakistan

Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) senior leader Dr Farooq Sattar has called for the creation of more provinces, saying Pakistan cannot be effectively governed through the existing four provinces or by the influence of a few political families.

Speaking after arriving at the party’s Bahadurabad headquarters in Karachi, Sattar said the country needs a more inclusive and participatory federal structure with additional provinces to ensure balanced governance and fair representation.

He said the movement for administrative reforms would continue until the establishment of more provinces across the country. According to Sattar, creating new provinces is essential for improving governance, strengthening the federation and addressing regional disparities.

The MQM-P leader also praised the country’s leadership for demonstrating resilience during challenging times. He commended Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the nation for showing determination and courage.

Sattar reiterated that constitutional and administrative reforms are necessary to build a stronger and more representative Pakistan, adding that decentralisation would help improve public service delivery and promote national unity.

Rawalpindi SSP Operations Tariq Mehboob said during a press conference that Ayesha Gulamna, also identified as Ayesha Shamsu, was allegedly targeted by her family members because they objected to her activities on TikTok. Electricity tariff likely to increase by Rs1 per unit from next month

ISLAMABAD: Electricity consumers across Pakistan may face higher power bills from next month as electricity distribution companies have approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a quarterly tariff adjustment. According to sources, the proposed adjustment could result in an increase of around Rs1 per unit in electricity prices during the upcoming quarter. The distribution companies have submitted their adjustment request to NEPRA, which will examine the figures and determine the impact on consumers under the applicable quarterly tariff mechanism. Sources said the expected increase is linked to the expiry of the existing quarterly adjustment relief. Under the current arrangement, consumers are receiving a relief of Rs1.99 per unit, which is scheduled to expire at the end of the current month. With the relief ending, electricity tariffs are expected to rise for consumers across the country from next month, subject to NEPRA’s approval of the proposed adjustment. The quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism is used to pass on changes in electricity generation costs and other relevant expenses to consumers. Depending on the regulator’s assessment, the resulting adjustment can either increase or reduce electricity bills. The proposed increase is likely to add to the financial burden on households and businesses already facing elevated electricity costs. Consumers are now awaiting NEPRA’s decision, which will determine the final impact on electricity tariffs in the upcoming quarter. NEPRA is expected to review the distribution companies’ submissions before announcing its decision. The final adjustment may differ from the amount initially sought by the power distribution companies following the regulator’s scrutiny of the data and applicable costs.

Isha Rikhi’s emotional Instagram note sparks online speculation

Actor Isha Rikhi, wife of rapper Badshah, has shared an emotional message on social media that has sparked concern among fans and fueled speculation about her relationship with the singer. On Monday, Rikhi posted a heartfelt note on Instagram, speaking about fear, silence and finding the courage to speak up. While she did not reveal specific details or explain the circumstances behind her message, the post quickly drew widespread attention online. In her statement, Rikhi wrote that some battles leave no visible scars and admitted she had stayed silent for a long time because she was afraid. She said she felt overwhelmed by what she believed to be her husband’s influence, power and resources, adding that she convinced herself remaining quiet was the safest choice. She further explained that her silence should not be mistaken for acceptance, describing it instead as a means of survival. Rikhi said she is now choosing courage over fear and, although she is not yet ready to share the full story, she no longer wants to pretend that everything is fine. The emotional message has led to intense discussion across social media platforms, with many fans expressing concern for the actor and wondering whether the post hints at difficulties in her marriage. However, neither Rikhi nor Badshah has issued any additional statement to clarify the situation. The latest post comes only a few days after Rikhi shared an emotional video montage featuring memorable moments with Badshah. The video included personal clips from their time together as well as scenes from their intimate wedding ceremony. Accompanying the montage was a brief yet emotional caption that read, “Every storm is a lesson. Every prayer is hope,” followed by a broken-heart emoji. The post immediately caught the attention of fans, many of whom began speculating that the couple could be going through a difficult phase. The couple tied the knot earlier this year in a private ceremony attended by close family and friends. They chose to keep both their relationship and wedding away from the public spotlight, making very few public appearances together. News of their marriage first surfaced after wedding videos were shared online by Rikhi’s mother. The actor later confirmed the marriage during an interactive Instagram question-and-answer session with her followers. Despite growing online speculation, there has been no official confirmation regarding any issues between the couple. Rikhi’s latest statement does not directly accuse anyone or provide details about the experiences she referred to, leaving the meaning of her message open to interpretation. Until either Rikhi or Badshah offers further clarification, the exact context behind the emotional post remains unknown. For now, fans continue to react to the actor’s words, with many sending messages of support while others wait for more information about the couple’s relationship.

Shah Rukh Khan’s King set for major box office clash in December

Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action thriller King is gearing up for one of the biggest box office battles of the year as its scheduled December release places it alongside several highly anticipated Hollywood blockbusters. Directed by Siddharth Anand, King is set to arrive in cinemas on December 24, a date that will also see the release of major international films including Avengers: Doomsday, Dune 3, and Jumanji: Open World. The crowded release window is expected to create intense competition both in India and overseas, making it one of the most closely watched clashes of the holiday season. Among the Hollywood titles, Avengers: Doomsday is widely expected to be the strongest rival. The Marvel franchise has built an enormous fan base in India over the years, with several of its previous films enjoying record-breaking openings and impressive box office collections. Its popularity could present a significant challenge for King, particularly when it comes to attracting audiences during the festive period. The competition is expected to be even tougher in international markets. With three major Hollywood franchises arriving simultaneously, exhibitors may face difficult decisions regarding screen allocation and show timings. Large-scale global releases often dominate multiplex schedules, leaving less room for other films, even those led by major stars. Despite these challenges, the makers of King have shown confidence in the film’s potential and have reportedly decided to stick with the planned release date. Rather than avoiding the clash, the production team appears determined to let the film compete head-to-head with some of the biggest releases of the year. Industry observers believe that only a project of King’s scale, backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s global popularity, has the ability to stand alongside such powerful Hollywood franchises. The actor remains one of India’s biggest box office draws, and expectations surrounding the film have continued to grow since its announcement. Adding to the excitement is the fact that King will mark the first full-fledged on-screen collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and his daughter, Suhana Khan. Fans are eager to see the father-daughter duo share screen space in what is expected to be a high-octane action entertainer. The film also boasts an impressive ensemble cast featuring Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Raghav Juyal, and Rani Mukerji in key roles, further raising anticipation among moviegoers. International distribution is being handled by Yash Raj Films, whose extensive global network and experience in releasing Indian films overseas could help maximize the film’s reach. Their expertise is expected to play an important role in securing favorable screens and show schedules across key international territories. As the countdown to December begins, King is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about releases of the year. Whether it can hold its own against three major Hollywood franchises remains to be seen, but the film’s star power, large-scale production, and strong cast have positioned it as a formidable contender in what promises to be an exciting holiday box office showdown.

Indonesia earthquake, 38 dead as rescue teams race…

JAKARTA: At least 38 people have died after a powerful magnitude-7.7 earthquake struck eastern Indonesia on Saturday, sending residents fleeing from homes, damaging buildings and triggering a brief tsunami warning, officials said. The shallow offshore earthquake was followed by dozens of aftershocks, complicating rescue efforts across East Nusa Tenggara province. Authorities said tsunami waves measuring less than one metre were recorded in several areas before the warning was lifted about three hours after the main tremor. Suharyanto, head of Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), said 38 people had died, while two were seriously injured and 11 suffered minor injuries. About 2,000 residents were evacuated to safer areas as authorities assessed the damage. Maumere, the main town in Sikka Regency on Flores Island, was among the worst-hit locations. Rescue officials reported finding 20 bodies there, while several people were injured and others remained trapped beneath collapsed structures. The disaster also struck Nagekeo, the area closest to the earthquake’s epicentre. Rescue teams faced major difficulties reaching the region because landslides blocked roads and communication signals were disrupted. Authorities said around 2,000 residents in Nagekeo had moved to safer locations, while houses, warehouses and government facilities were damaged. Officials said power outages and traffic congestion were reported in parts of the affected region. In some locations, residents rushed outdoors as buildings shook violently. Hospitals also moved patients outside as a precaution against further tremors. A resident of Talibura described the shaking as extremely powerful, saying her family ran from their home after the earthquake struck. Her account reflected the panic felt across communities as the ground continued to shake. The Indonesian geophysics agency said the initial earthquake occurred at a depth of about 15 kilometres and was followed by multiple aftershocks. Rescue workers are continuing to search damaged buildings and isolated communities for survivors. Officials said emergency crews were using boats and other routes where roads remained blocked by landslides and debris. Indonesia is particularly vulnerable to earthquakes because it lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, a highly active seismic zone where tectonic plates meet. The region has suffered devastating earthquakes before, including a magnitude-7.5 quake in 1992 that caused extensive destruction. Authorities warned that the situation remains fluid as rescue teams work to reach isolated areas, determine the full scale of damage and provide assistance to displaced residents. The death toll could rise as search operations continue.
