A US publication has praised Pakistan’s efforts to modernise its financial system, saying the country is steadily strengthening its position in the global digital financial landscape through reforms and technological innovation.

The article highlighted Pakistan’s initiatives to promote digital transformation and said the country has the potential to play a meaningful role in the evolving global digital economy.

It also commended the vision of Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) Chairman Bilal Bin Saqib, stating that Pakistan must actively position itself within the international digital financial system to benefit from emerging technologies and new economic opportunities.

According to the publication, the future will belong to countries that make swift decisions and implement reforms without delay. It noted that Pakistan has the opportunity to emerge as a leader in the digital economy by embracing innovation and adopting forward-looking policies.

The article further stated that governments can no longer rely solely on traditional bureaucratic systems. Instead, they must adopt the speed, flexibility and innovation-driven approach of technology startups to remain competitive in a rapidly changing global environment.

It added that digital assets are becoming the foundation of the future financial infrastructure and countries investing in digital finance today will be better positioned for long-term economic growth and global competitiveness.

      ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is expected to secure a two-thirds majority in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly after elections for the reserved seats. Speaking about the political situation in Azad Kashmir, Rana Sanaullah said that PML-N would form its government in the region with a clear majority. He stated that the party had secured victory on 25 seats and would achieve a two-thirds majority once the elections for reserved seats were completed. The prime minister’s adviser also expressed his appreciation for Sajid Iqbal, who was elected from LA-14. He thanked the newly elected lawmaker for deciding to support PML-N and said that Sajid Iqbal would work alongside the party for the development and improvement of Azad Kashmir. Rana Sanaullah said that the people of Azad Kashmir had given PML-N a mandate to improve the situation in the region and address the issues faced by its people. He emphasized that the party would fulfill the commitments it had made during the election campaign and would work to bring positive changes to the lives of citizens. He further said that the AJK Legislative Assembly would be allowed to function with its full constitutional powers. According to him, the new government would focus on governance, development and resolving the problems of the people instead of engaging in political confrontation. Commenting on the ongoing protests and sit-ins in Azad Kashmir, Rana Sanaullah said that the citizens participating in the demonstrations were their brothers and should not be viewed as opponents. He stressed that the people of Azad Kashmir were as much owners of Pakistan as citizens living in other parts of the country. However, he claimed that only a very small portion of the protesters, estimated at around one to one-and-a-half percent, might be influenced by elements attempting to create unrest or provoke violence. He maintained that the majority of the people participating in the protests were ordinary citizens expressing their concerns. Rana Sanaullah’s remarks come amid heightened political activity in Azad Kashmir following the recent elections. The expected formation of a PML-N government, along with the possibility of the party securing a two-thirds majority through reserved seats, could significantly strengthen its position in the AJK Legislative Assembly.     PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hamid is likely to be replaced, according to official sources. The provincial government has reportedly initiated the process of appointing a new police chief. Three names have been forwarded to the federal government for consideration. The federal government will review the proposed names before making a final decision. Sources said the appointment of the new IG is expected within the next few days. The change, if approved, would bring a new leadership at the top of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police. The provincial police chief is responsible for overseeing law enforcement operations across the province. The federal government has the authority to make the final appointment after considering the names forwarded by the provincial government. Officials have not yet publicly announced the names of the three candidates. No formal notification regarding the replacement of Zulfiqar Hamid has been issued so far. The development comes amid continued security and law-and-order challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The new police chief, once appointed, will be responsible for strengthening policing, improving security measures and coordinating operations across the province.

    McLaren’s Lando Norris took his first grand prix pole position of the season in Hungary, but Lewis Hamilton was denied the chance to make it an all-British front row by a three-place penalty for impeding. Piastri moves up to fourth, while Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli will start third, with George Russell seventh. The chaotic end to the session was caused by a spin at the final corner by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, which affected Antonelli and Russell, forcing them to slow. Verstappen had got going again before Norris came around as the last driver on track to clinch pole. Norris said: “Very happy to be back on top, especially at a track where you certainly want to be on pole. I had confidence the whole of today. My laps were good.” All the drivers were battling with a Hungaroring track surface that was breaking up, especially in the final two corners, where Norris said it was especially difficult to judge the grip level. Antonelli said: “I think we were just slightly out of the window with tyres, then in Q3 we did a good step and the car just felt finally a bit more alive. For sure it was a shame with the yellow flags, but it happens. P3 was on the table today but still not good enough for pole.” The Hungarian Grand Prix promises to be an exciting race, with Norris on pole and Leclerc alongside him on the front row.
