PM Shehbaz hails efforts to unite muslim countries

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said hostile forces made every possible effort to create divisions among Muslim countries in the region but failed to achieve their objective.

Addressing the National Seerat-un-Nabi ﷺ Conference, the prime minister credited Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir with helping thwart attempts to create discord among Muslim nations. He said peace and stability remained essential for the Muslim world and praised efforts aimed at countering elements seeking to spread hatred and division.

Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted Pakistan’s close and historic ties with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. He said the three countries had strengthened their cooperation through the historic Makkah Defence Agreement, describing the development as an important step toward closer strategic coordination.

The prime minister praised Saudi Arabia and Türkiye for standing by Pakistan during difficult times as well as periods of prosperity. He particularly appreciated Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s support for Pakistan, saying the Saudi leadership had stood with the country like an “iron wall.”

Recalling Pakistan’s recent conflict with India, Shehbaz Sharif said the entire nation had remained united in the face of the challenge. He stressed that national unity and solidarity played a crucial role in safeguarding the country’s interests.

The prime minister also called for greater efforts to eliminate sectarianism and promote harmony among Muslims. He urged religious scholars and clerics to spread the teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, particularly his messages of love, tolerance, compassion and brotherhood.

Shehbaz Sharif said mosques, pulpits and religious gatherings should become platforms for promoting peace and mutual respect rather than division. He emphasized that following the Prophet’s ﷺ teachings could help strengthen unity within the Muslim community and counter attempts to create hatred and discord among Muslims.

A large number of River Garden residents have previously challenged these increases in court. During 2023 and 2024, several homeowners obtained stay orders against the hikes, arguing that the increases were unjustified and lacked transparency. However, residents allege that despite these court orders, the management has continued to introduce higher maintenance charges and adopt various administrative measures that they believe place pressure on residents to withdraw their legal cases. The latest increase has once again triggered widespread criticism within the community. Residents argue that they continue to pay maintenance charges despite receiving inadequate and below-standard services. They believe that the fees being collected do not reflect the quality of facilities available in the housing society. Residents have demanded that maintenance charges should be determined through a transparent and independent process. They have called for the appointment of a neutral third-party auditor to evaluate the society’s operational expenses and recommend fair service charges. They also insist that the rates should be comparable to those charged by neighboring housing societies offering similar facilities and services. According to the residents, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) regulations emphasize that housing societies must prioritize the provision of essential infrastructure and address the concerns of residents before imposing additional financial burdens. They argue that instead of increasing maintenance charges, the management should first improve the condition of the society and fulfill its basic responsibilities. Residents highlighted several longstanding issues that, they say, remain unresolved. They claim that many roads within River Garden are damaged and require urgent repair. They also pointed out that the boundary wall of the housing society is still incomplete, raising concerns about security. In addition, residents say that the promised community center has yet to be constructed despite repeated assurances. They have also expressed concerns over the increasing number of stray dogs roaming the society, describing the situation as a public safety issue for families and children. Other complaints include poor maintenance of green areas, with grass and wild shrubs reportedly left unattended for extended periods. Residents further criticized the relocation of the society’s cemetery, stating that it has been moved approximately 13 kilometers away from the residential area, making it difficult for families to visit and creating inconvenience during funeral arrangements. The residents have once again appealed to the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority to take immediate notice of the matter. They have urged the authority to review the process used to determine monthly maintenance charges and introduce a transparent mechanism that ensures fairness and accountability. Furthermore, residents have requested the CDA to ensure that RDPL fulfills its obligations by improving infrastructure, completing pending development projects, and providing the essential services promised to homeowners. They believe that only after these basic facilities are delivered should any discussion regarding increases in maintenance charges take place. The issue has become a major concern for many families living in River Garden, who say they are willing to pay reasonable service charges but expect transparency, accountability, and quality services in return. The president and prime minister, along with the military leadership, stood respectfully as the national anthem was played by a military band. The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. A video highlighting the concept, construction and development of the monument was also screened for the guests. A large contingent of personnel from the armed forces, paramilitary forces and police presented a guard of honour. The display was accompanied by a military band and reflected the participation of Pakistan’s security institutions in the national ceremony. The event was attended by senior military officers, federal ministers, political leaders, diplomats and other high-ranking officials. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Chairman Senate, Defence Minister, Foreign Minister and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz were among those present. Governors of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also attended. Police contingents from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan participated in the ceremony. Units representing Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also part of the event. The monument commemorates Pakistan’s military confrontation with India in May. According to the Pakistani state narrative, the conflict began after the April 22 Pahalgam attack and culminated in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos before a ceasefire was reached between the two countries on May 10. Pakistan has referred to the episode as “Marka-i-Haq,” or the “Battle of Truth.” The inauguration brought together the country’s political and military leadership and carried a strong message of national unity and patriotism.
