Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni called on Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Tuesday to discuss regional security and bilateral cooperation.

The meeting focused on issues of mutual interest, including regional security, defence cooperation and effective border management between Pakistan and Iran.

Both sides exchanged views on the evolving regional security environment and stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination to address common security challenges and strengthen bilateral relations.

The Iranian interior minister appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in promoting regional peace and stability. He acknowledged the country’s role in encouraging dialogue, reducing tensions and supporting peaceful solutions to regional disputes.

The two sides also underscored the importance of continued cooperation to improve border security and strengthen mechanisms aimed at preventing cross-border threats while promoting stability in the region.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to enhancing cooperation and maintaining regular coordination in support of regional peace, security and mutual prosperity.

    LAHORE: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has questioned the Pakistan Cricket Board’s decision to reappoint Babar Azam as the national Test captain, saying the star batter should have been allowed to focus entirely on his batting rather than taking on the added responsibility of leadership. Babar recently returned as Pakistan’s Test skipper after replacing Shan Masood, whose tenure ended after 16 matches, during which Pakistan recorded four wins and suffered 12 defeats. The appointment marks Babar’s second stint as Test captain, having previously led the national side from 2020 to 2023. The PCB’s decision has generated considerable discussion among former players and cricket analysts, with opinions divided over whether the move will strengthen the team’s performance. Speaking during an interview with Wisden, Amir said he was not convinced that handing the captaincy back to Babar was the right decision, especially at a time when the batter had only recently regained his form after a prolonged lean patch. According to Amir, Babar’s improved performances with the bat should have been the team’s primary priority, rather than placing additional expectations on him through captaincy. “He has only just started performing well again after a long period. He’s finally looking in good rhythm,” Amir said, suggesting that leadership duties could once again distract him from maintaining consistency with the bat. The former left-arm pacer also highlighted the intense scrutiny faced by Pakistan’s captains, noting that media attention and public expectations make the role particularly demanding. While stressing that his remarks reflected his personal opinion, Amir concluded that reappointing Babar as Test captain was not the ideal solution for Pakistan cricket. He added that protecting the team’s premier batter from additional pressure would have been a better long-term strategy as Pakistan looks to rebuild its Test fortunes.

    Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, has suffered a major legal setback after losing a High Court battle over the sale of the late singer’s personal belongings. The ruling brings an end to a long-running dispute involving two of Amy’s closest friends and has resulted in Mitch being ordered to pay nearly £1 million in legal costs.  The case centered on dozens of items once owned by the Grammy-winning singer, who died in 2011 at the age of 27. Acting as the administrator of Amy Winehouse’s estate, Mitch Winehouse claimed that her longtime stylist, Naomi Parry, and close friend, Catriona Gourlay, had improperly sold the singer’s possessions at auctions in the United States in 2021 and 2023 without his consent. He argued that the items belonged to the estate and sought financial compensation.  However, the High Court rejected Mitch’s claims after hearing evidence from both sides. Naomi Parry and Catriona Gourlay maintained that the belongings had either been gifted to them by Amy herself or already belonged to them. The court accepted their explanation and ruled that there had been no deliberate attempt to conceal the auction sales.  Deputy High Court Judge Sarah Clarke was also critical of Mitch Winehouse’s handling of the case. According to the judgment, the court found that he had pursued weak claims without properly checking the facts before initiating legal proceedings. The judge further stated that he was an unreliable witness and awarded legal costs on an indemnity basis, a decision that reflected the court’s disapproval of the way the litigation had been conducted.  Following the ruling, Mitch was ordered to make interim payments totaling just under £1 million toward the legal costs incurred by Parry and Gourlay. In addition to those payments, reports indicate that Mitch also accumulated substantial legal expenses of his own during the lengthy court battle.  Naomi Parry welcomed the verdict, saying the judgment completely cleared her name after years of accusations that she described as deeply damaging to her reputation. She also expressed relief that the legal dispute had finally come to an end.  Amy Winehouse remains one of Britain’s most celebrated musical talents, remembered for iconic songs including Rehab and Back to Black. Although the legal dispute has concluded, the case has once again drawn public attention to the management of her legacy and the challenges surrounding the preservation of her personal belongings. With the court’s ruling now in place, the long-running dispute appears to have finally reached its conclusion.

    West Indies defeated Pakistan by 90 runs in the first Test of the two-match series on Tuesday. Pakistan failed to chase down a target of 211 runs. The national team was bowled out for just 120 runs in its second innings. The match was played at the Brian Lara Academy in Tarouba. Pakistan’s batters struggled badly on a difficult pitch. The West Indies fast bowlers maintained constant pressure throughout the innings. Pakistan began their chase with hopes of securing a win. However, the batting line-up collapsed quickly. Eight Pakistani batters failed to score in double figures. Captain Babar Azam was the only batter who offered strong resistance. He remained unbeaten on 58 runs. However, he received little support from the other end. Azan Awais, Imam-ul-Haq and Shan Masood were dismissed for three runs each. Ali Usman scored two runs. Khurram Shahzad made four runs. Salman Ali Agha, Aamer Jamal and Mohammad Ali were dismissed without scoring. The repeated fall of wickets left Pakistan in serious trouble. Earlier, West Indies resumed their second innings on the fourth day at 126 for seven. Their batters added 55 more runs before being bowled out for 181. West Indies entered the second innings with a 29-run lead from the first innings. That advantage proved crucial. It allowed the hosts to set Pakistan a target of 211 runs for victory. Pakistan’s batters found the target extremely difficult to chase. The pitch offered assistance to the bowlers. West Indies used the conditions effectively and kept taking wickets at regular intervals. The visitors had earlier scored 282 runs in their first innings. Shan Masood was Pakistan’s leading batter. He scored an impressive 109 runs. Imam-ul-Haq also made an important contribution. He scored 63 runs. However, the rest of the batting line-up failed to build enough partnerships. Justin Greaves was the standout bowler for West Indies in Pakistan’s first innings. He claimed five wickets and played a key role in restricting Pakistan to 282. West Indies had scored 311 runs in their first innings. Shai Hope was among their top performers. He scored 92 runs and narrowly missed a century. Kavem Hodge also played an important innings. He scored 84 runs and helped West Indies post a competitive total. Pakistan’s Mohammad Ali was the leading bowler in the first innings. He took four wickets. Mohammad Abbas also impressed with the ball and claimed three wickets. The match remained competitive because of the difficult batting conditions. However, West Indies handled the pressure better in the crucial moments. Pakistan’s second-innings collapse eventually handed West Indies a convincing victory. The hosts bowled the visitors out for 120 runs.
