Gold prices jump Rs3,000 per tola in Pakistan

Gold prices continued their upward trend in Pakistan on Friday, with the price of the precious metal increasing by Rs3,000 per tola in line with gains in the international market.

According to the All Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Association (APGJA), the latest increase pushed the price of one tola of gold to Rs430,436, marking another sharp rise in the local bullion market. The increase comes amid continued strength in global gold prices and growing demand for safe-haven assets.

The association also reported an increase in the price of 10 grams of gold. Following a rise of Rs2,572, the price of 10 grams reached Rs369,029.

Bullion dealers said local gold prices generally move in line with international market trends and are also influenced by fluctuations in the value of the Pakistani rupee against the US dollar. Any increase in global prices is usually reflected in domestic rates.

In the international market, gold prices also recorded a significant gain. The price of the precious metal rose by $30 per ounce, taking it to $4,080 per ounce. The global increase provided further support to rising prices in Pakistan.

Gold is widely regarded as a safe investment during periods of economic uncertainty and market volatility. As international prices continue to strengthen, local buyers and jewellers are closely monitoring market movements for further changes in bullion rates.

Market analysts believe domestic gold prices will continue to follow international trends, with future movements depending on global economic conditions, investor demand and currency fluctuations. Buyers are expected to remain cautious as higher prices increase the cost of jewellery and investment purchases

He is attending this year’s summit as President of the D-8 Health Summit 2026 and the honorary chief guest of the Karachi Healthcare Expo and Conference. In his message, Dr Aydin said it was a great honour to return to Pakistan, a country he considers his second home. He said it was gratifying to see the vision behind the Ibn Sina Institute and the World Aging Council, established nearly three decades ago, evolve into an international platform promoting global cooperation in health and ageing. He also thanked the organisers of the Karachi Healthcare Expo and Conference, including Tanveer Abbas, Dr Abid Abbas Sheikh, and their team, for their efforts in arranging the event. Alongside the summit, Karachi D-8 Healthcare Week 2026 is being held from July 20 to 27. The programme includes conferences, academic sessions, business-to-business meetings, investment discussions, innovation forums, and corporate social responsibility activities focused on healthcare and ageing. During the event, organisers will also launch an international signature campaign supporting the establishment of a United Nations World Assembly on Ageing.     Karachi oil spill: NRL pipeline bursts in DHA phas…

    A crude oil pipeline operated by National Refinery Limited (NRL) burst in Karachi’s DHA Phase VI, triggering an emergency containment and repair operation, authorities said. The leak occurred around 10:30pm on Saturday on Khayaban-e-Sehar, Street 13. The pipeline carries crude oil from Keamari to Korangi and reportedly runs through a road median. The incident caused crude oil to spill onto the road, prompting authorities to restrict access to the affected area. NRL’s response team arrived around midnight and began containment and cleanup operations using specialised spill kits. More than 20 drums of leaked oil had been collected, while excavation work was launched to identify the exact point of the damaged pipeline and stop the leak completely. The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (Sepa) directed authorities to safely remove contaminated soil, sand and sludge and dispose of the material according to environmental regulations. Fresh sand will reportedly be placed after remedial work is completed. Officials urged residents to stay away from the affected location and avoid smoking or using open flames near the spilled oil. They also warned residents against attempting cleanup themselves or washing oil into nearby drains. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

    Pakistan clarifies Afghan deportation policy

    Pakistan has clarified that Afghan citizens with valid visas and travel documents have not been expelled from the country. Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said the government was following a legal process regarding Afghan nationals staying in Pakistan. Addressing the weekly press briefing, Andrabi said cases of around 89,000 Afghan citizens were currently being reviewed under the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan (IFRP). He explained that the process was being carried out according to established procedures and legal requirements. The spokesperson added that Pakistan was also providing humanitarian relief by extending the stay of nearly 16,000 Afghan nationals. The extension applies mainly to vulnerable groups, including women, children and elderly citizens, he said. Commenting on reports of an incident near the Chitral border areas, Andrabi said the Foreign Office had no confirmed information about the matter. He stated that reports coming from Afghanistan needed proper verification at the ground level before any official response could be given. The spokesperson stressed that Pakistan would avoid commenting on unverified reports and would share information only after confirmation from reliable sources.
