Governor inspects Songkran road safety checkpoints in Prachuap
The governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan has inspected Songkran road safety checkpoints in Sam Roi Yot and Pran Buri as part of ongoing efforts to reduce accidents during the holiday period.
On Sunday 12 April at 10:20, Sitthichai Sawat Saen, in his role as Director of the Provincial Road Safety Operations Centre, visited key checkpoints and service points set up for the Songkran festival. These included the Road Safety Operations Centre in Sam Roi Yot District, located in front of Sam Roi Yot Police Station, and a second centre operated by Khao Noi Subdistrict Municipality in Pran Buri District, in front of the OTOP Centre.
During the visit, the governor thanked officials and volunteers for their work over the holiday period, acknowledging the demands placed on personnel tasked with maintaining road safety. He also distributed supplies to support those on duty and encouraged continued vigilance to ensure the safety of residents and visitors travelling through the province.
Five key measures in place for Songkran road safety
Prachuap Khiri Khan has activated its Road Accident Prevention and Reduction Operations Centre for the 2026 Songkran period, supported by a campaign under the theme “Drive safely, reduce speed, reduce accidents.” The intensive control period runs from 10 to 16 April.
Authorities are implementing five main measures: management and administration, reducing road and environmental risk factors, addressing vehicle-related risks, promoting safer behaviour among road users, and strengthening post-accident emergency response.
Officials are focusing on key causes of road accidents, including speeding and drink driving, while also promoting full compliance with helmet use for motorcyclists and seatbelt use for drivers and passengers.
The campaign involves cooperation between government agencies, private sector organisations, local communities, volunteers, royal volunteer groups, and charitable foundations. The aim is to reduce fatalities and injuries during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Local authorities have said enforcement and public awareness campaigns will continue throughout the Songkran period, with checkpoints operating across the province to monitor traffic, assist travellers, and respond to incidents.
