Influencer Sara Gilson killed weeks after viral allegations

US influencer and hairstylist Sara Gilson was fatally shot in what authorities are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide, just weeks after she publicly accused her estranged husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, of being a paedophile in a viral TikTok video. The tragic incident has drawn widespread attention, raising concerns about domestic violence and online safety.
Gilson, 43, had built a strong following on TikTok by sharing lifestyle, beauty and family-related content. She also worked as a hairstylist in Oklahoma and frequently posted videos featuring her children and everyday life. Shortly before her death, one of her TikTok videos went viral after she claimed she had discovered disturbing information about her estranged husband.
According to investigators, police responded to a 911 call from Gilson’s home in Owasso, Oklahoma, on July 23. A child inside the house contacted emergency services, and the dispatcher reportedly heard screaming and crying before a loud noise. Officers later found Gilson and Duffey with fatal gunshot wounds. Authorities believe Duffey shot Gilson before taking his own life. The investigation remains ongoing.
The case has gained national attention because it followed a series of legal actions taken by Gilson. Court records show she had filed multiple protective orders against Duffey over the years, with the most recent one granted shortly before her death. The order required him to stay away from her and leave their shared home.
Separate court documents also reveal that another protective order had been filed on behalf of a 15-year-old girl, accusing Duffey—who coached a youth basketball team—of inappropriate sexual conduct. Those allegations are separate from the homicide investigation and had not been resolved in court at the time of the incident.
Gilson’s final TikTok posts received millions of views after she alleged that her estranged husband was a paedophile. The videos quickly spread across social media, with many users expressing concern for her safety and urging authorities to investigate the claims. Following her death, those posts resurfaced as people reflected on the tragedy.
Friends and followers have remembered Gilson as a devoted mother and a positive presence online. A fundraising campaign has since been launched to support her children, while tributes continue to pour in across social media. Many users have described the incident as a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers faced by victims of domestic abuse.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not announced any additional criminal proceedings because the suspected shooter is deceased. Meanwhile, advocates say the tragedy highlights the importance of taking threats, protective orders and allegations of domestic violence seriously, while ensuring victims have access to timely protection and support.

Pakistan seeks $10b in US backstop facility

Pakistan has formally requested a 10 billion dollar exchange stabilisation facility from the United States to boost its foreign exchange reserves and stabilise its economy, according to a source familiar with the development. The request, addressed to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, seeks a Bilateral Exchange Stabilisation Support Facility with a maturity period of up to five years. This move follows Pakistan’s involvement in facilitating negotiations regarding the Iran war, an effort that elevated the country’s diplomatic standing and fueled expectations of economic support from Washington and international partners. If approved, the 10 billion dollar facility would help replenish Pakistan’s central bank reserves, reduce downward pressure on the rupee, and decrease dependency on multilateral lenders. It would also provide financial flexibility as Islamabad continues implementing strict fiscal and monetary measures mandated under its 7 billion dollar International Monetary Fund programme. These IMF-guided measures have required politically challenging tax hikes, spending cuts, and structural reforms to ensure fiscal discipline. Neither the Pakistani Ministry of Finance nor the US Treasury immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the proposal. US Exchange Stabilisation Facilities, typically administered through the Exchange Stabilisation Fund, are rare financial mechanisms that provide foreign governments with dollars, currency swaps, or guarantees. These backstops differ from the Federal Reserve’s permanent standing swap lines with major foreign central banks. A 2025 financial package provided to Argentina represented the first new exchange stabilisation facility granted to a foreign government since Uruguay in 2002, alongside Mexico’s long-standing swap agreement dating back to the 1940s. Pakistan narrowly avoided a debt default in 2023 by securing a 3 billion dollar IMF standby arrangement, which was later succeeded by the current 7 billion dollar Extended Fund Facility. However, its foreign reserves remain heavily dependent on official loans, debt rollovers, and financial deposits from bilateral partners like Saudi Arabia and China. This reliance leaves the country vulnerable to delays in IMF disbursements and shifts in bilateral support, as demonstrated in April when Pakistan repaid approximately 3.5 billion dollars to the United Arab Emirates, representing a fifth of its reserves, while receiving 3 billion dollars in fresh backing from Saudi Arabia. Despite these vulnerabilities, Pakistan’s central bank projected in January that its foreign exchange reserves could approach their 2021 historical high, reaching 20 billion dollars by the close of 2026. In April, rating agency Fitch noted that compliance with the IMF programme has enhanced Pakistan’s funding capacity, while rebuilt foreign exchange buffers offer a cushion against economic shocks stemming from Middle East instability. However, Fitch cautioned that escalating global energy costs and potential supply disruptions could rapidly erode these reserve buffers. Furthermore, foreign direct investment in Pakistan remains constrained due to recurring external account crises, policy shifts, security concerns, historical restrictions on profit repatriation, and a narrow export base. The nation’s credit rating remains firmly in speculative-grade territory, limiting access to international capital markets and keeping borrowing costs high. To navigate these economic pressures, Islamabad has sought deeper engagement with the Trump administration through various commercial and investment initiatives. These efforts include signing a stablecoin agreement for cross-border transactions with an affiliate of World Liberty Financial, advancing a memorandum of understanding to redevelop the Pakistan International Airlines-owned Roosevelt Hotel in New York with the US government, and encouraging US investment in the domestic mining sector, where the US Export-Import Bank announced 1.2 billion dollars in financing for the Reko Diq project.

Hormuz uncertainty pushes global oil prices higher

KARACHI: Global oil prices edged higher on Monday as uncertainty over the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz continued to unsettle energy markets. Brent crude climbed by more than 1% in Asian trading, moving above $84 a barrel, while US crude prices also posted gains of over 1%. The market remains focused on the situation surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime route through which a significant share of the world’s oil supplies passes. Any prolonged disruption or uncertainty over shipping through the waterway could put further pressure on global energy prices. Iran has indicated that discussions with Oman on establishing alternative shipping routes are nearing completion. However, Tehran says the United States still needs to fulfil additional conditions before arrangements concerning the waterway can move forward. With the situation still unresolved, traders are closely watching developments around the Strait, with concerns over supply disruptions continuing to influence crude prices.

CCTV exposes couple behind Karachi motorcycle thef…

Karachi Police have arrested a woman allegedly involved in a series of motorcycle thefts during an operation in the Soldier Bazaar area. The suspect, identified as Sehar Batool, was taken into custody after police acted on intelligence and analyzed CCTV footage. Her husband, who is also wanted in connection with the case, managed to flee and remains at large. According to police officials, the couple is suspected of carrying out numerous motorcycle lifting incidents across different parts of Karachi. Investigators believe they worked together to target parked motorcycles before fleeing the scene with the stolen vehicles. Authorities said CCTV footage played a crucial role in identifying the suspects. The recordings reportedly captured the husband and wife taking away motorcycles, providing investigators with key evidence that led to the woman’s arrest. During the operation, police also recovered a motorcycle from the suspect’s possession. Officials are verifying whether the recovered vehicle matches any of the motorcycles reported stolen in recent cases. A criminal case has been registered against the arrested woman and her absconding husband under the relevant legal provisions. Police have launched a search operation to locate the fugitive suspect while continuing their investigation to determine whether other individuals were involved in the alleged theft network. Law enforcement authorities have urged motorcycle owners to take preventive measures, including parking their vehicles in secure locations, using reliable locking systems, and reporting suspicious activity to the police. Officials say public cooperation, along with surveillance technology, continues to play an important role in tackling vehicle theft across the city. The investigation remains ongoing, and police expect further developments as efforts continue to apprehend the remaining suspect and recover additional stolen motorcycles.

Cheryl Tweedy reportedly in early talks for tell-a…

Cheryl Tweedy is reportedly in the early stages of discussions for a new documentary that would explore her life, career, and personal journey, offering audiences a closer look at one of Britain’s most recognisable entertainers. While no official announcement has been made, reports suggest several major streaming platforms are interested in the project. The documentary is expected to trace Cheryl’s rise to fame, beginning with her breakthrough on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. From there, it would revisit the phenomenal success of Girls Aloud, one of the UK’s best-selling girl groups, before following her transition into a successful solo music career and later television appearances. According to reports, the project would also reflect on the challenges and milestones that have shaped Cheryl’s life over the past two decades. Insiders claim she has been highly selective about returning to the public eye after spending recent years largely out of the spotlight, focusing on raising her son, Bear, following the passing of Liam Payne. Streaming giants including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV+ are reportedly among the platforms interested in securing the documentary. Although negotiations are said to be at an early stage, the possibility of a major streaming release has already generated significant interest online. Fans have responded with mixed reactions across social media. Many are excited by the prospect of hearing Cheryl tell her story in her own words and revisiting defining moments from her career. Others, however, hope she will return to music instead, expressing a desire for new songs rather than a documentary. Questions also remain about how candid the programme might be. Viewers are speculating whether Cheryl will address some of the controversies and highly publicised moments that have surrounded her throughout her career or whether the documentary will focus primarily on her professional achievements and personal growth. Until an official confirmation arrives, the reported project remains the subject of widespread discussion, with many eager to see whether Cheryl will share her story in what could become one of the year’s most talked-about documentary releases. https://www.aol.co.uk/articles/cheryl-tweedys-big-comeback-plans-081502000.html
