Iran ready for talks with US as Tehran sends message through Pakistan

Iran has reportedly conveyed to Pakistan that it is willing to resume negotiations with the United States, opening a possible new chapter in diplomatic efforts between the two countries, according to a report by Arab media.

Sources cited in the report claimed that Tehran has informed Islamabad about its readiness to continue talks with Washington at possible venues including Geneva, Doha, or Islamabad. The discussions, according to the report, would proceed under the framework of a memorandum of understanding.

The reported message suggests that Iran wants negotiations to be conducted in phases. According to sources, the first phase would focus on issues related to the Strait of Hormuz, followed by discussions on frozen assets and later the nuclear program.

The report further claimed that Iran has rejected any initiative aimed at creating a new route or corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, which remains one of the world’s most strategically important waterways for energy transportation.

Earlier, Iran and the United States had reportedly moved toward direct diplomatic engagement after signing an understanding in Islamabad on June 17, 2026. The agreement paved the way for high-level talks, including a meeting in Switzerland after decades without direct negotiations between the two sides.

Representatives from Pakistan and Qatar were also present during earlier diplomatic efforts. Pakistan played a role in facilitating communication, while Qatar hosted one round of discussions in Doha.

However, the negotiation process later faced setbacks after both sides accused each other of violating commitments and military tensions escalated. Former US President Donald Trump and Iranian officials blamed each other for the collapse of the dialogue process.

Despite the tensions, both sides have indicated that diplomacy remains a possible path toward resolving disputes. Iran has maintained that it is open to negotiations but has rejected what it describes as pressure or threats.

If confirmed, the reported Iranian message could mark a renewed opportunity for dialogue and place Pakistan in an important diplomatic role between Tehran and Washington.

Naimal Khawar’s new look leaves fans stunned

Former actress and social media personality Naimal Khawar has become the subject of renewed online discussion after new photographs of her surfaced from a wedding event in Oslo, Norway. Naimal attended the wedding with her husband, actor Hamza Ali Abbasi. The couple was photographed alongside other guests during the event, with pictures later shared on Instagram by one of the attendees. For the occasion, Naimal wore a salmon-coloured traditional outfit. She kept her hair tied back and opted for soft makeup. Hamza Ali Abbasi appeared in a black smart-casual outfit and was seen posing for photographs with guests. The pictures quickly attracted attention from social media users, particularly because some viewers felt Naimal looked different from the way she usually appears in her own Instagram posts. Several users commented on her appearance and speculated about possible changes in her weight. Some went further and suggested that she might be expecting a baby. However, there has been no confirmation from Naimal Khawar or Hamza Ali Abbasi regarding such speculation. Other users criticised her appearance, with some making harsh comments about her face and overall look. The remarks have generated a debate online about the difference between photographs shared by celebrities themselves and candid pictures taken by others at public events. Naimal Khawar has largely remained away from acting in recent years and has focused on her personal life, family and social media activities. She frequently shares content related to art, travel and everyday moments with her followers. Her marriage to Hamza Ali Abbasi has also remained a subject of public interest. The couple generally maintains a relatively private personal life while occasionally appearing together at social events. The latest photographs have now attracted considerable attention because they provide a candid glimpse of the couple at a wedding outside Pakistan. While some fans simply appreciated the couple’s appearance and the event pictures, others focused heavily on Naimal’s appearance. Importantly, the pregnancy claims circulating online remain unverified. Changes in appearance in photographs can result from lighting, camera angles, clothing, makeup or other factors, and the available pictures do not provide evidence to confirm such claims.

Govt approves Rs13bn relief for PTV

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved a Rs13 billion supplementary grant to help Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) overcome its worsening financial difficulties, while also authorizing sovereign guarantees worth Rs34.6 billion for the Sialkot–Kharian Motorway project. The decisions were made during a virtual meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had requested Rs20 billion to cover PTV’s salaries, allowances, utility bills, and other essential operational expenses. However, the ECC approved Rs13 billion, which will be released in quarterly installments of approximately Rs3.25 billion. PTV, which operates under the Pakistan Television Corporation Act and is headed by Information Secretary Ashfaq Ahmed Khokhar as its Managing Director, has been facing mounting financial challenges. According to the Ministry of Finance’s latest report, the broadcaster’s revenue declined by 22 percent during fiscal year 2024-25, falling to Rs14.3 billion. The corporation also recorded a net loss of Rs639 million, placing it among Pakistan’s 20 largest loss-making state-owned enterprises. The ECC also cleared sovereign guarantees totaling Rs34.6 billion for the 69-kilometre Sialkot–Kharian Motorway project. The motorway is being developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and was awarded in September 2021 to Sialkot Kharian Infrastructure Management (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). The approved guarantees include Rs17.4 billion for Capital Viability Gap Funding, Rs10.3 billion to facilitate commercial borrowing, and nearly Rs7 billion for Operational Viability Gap Funding. In addition, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that the ECC authorized Rs27.62 billion in fresh sovereign guarantees and approved the rollover of Rs6.94 billion in existing operational viability funding to help the project achieve financial close under its revised financing structure. The government had already revised the PPP agreement for the motorway in February this year, requiring the concessionaire to complete financial arrangements within six months. Rising construction costs, inflation, higher interest rates, and design modifications prompted a restructuring of the project’s financial framework. As part of the revised agreement, the concession period has been extended from 25 years to 29 years. During the first year of operations, toll rates are expected to start at Rs4.1 per kilometre for cars, around Rs10 for minibuses, Rs13.7 for large buses, and Rs23 per kilometre for heavy trucks. The Ministry of Finance estimates that new sovereign guarantees worth Rs683 billion will be issued between April 2026 and June 2027 for various public projects and state-owned entities. Pakistan’s total sovereign guarantees currently stand at Rs4.4 trillion and are projected to exceed Rs5 trillion by June next year. More than Rs2.4 trillion of these guarantees support the power sector, while Rs895 billion have been allocated for commodity procurement and storage operations.

Mamdani’s multilingual, meme-friendly style wins over young voters

Zohran Mamdani has built a notably different kind of political connection with New York’s diverse communities. His approach centers on delivering campaign outreach in multiple languages, including Mandarin, Bengali and Spanish. Rather than relying solely on English, Mamdani’s team has woven the city’s varied linguistic makeup directly into its outreach strategy. That approach has helped him connect more directly with working-class neighbourhoods and immigrant populations in their native languages. The New York City mayor’s approach to engaging constituents has repeatedly drawn attention. His localised messaging and public appearances, often delivered fluently across several languages, have become a defining feature of his public image. The style has also sparked plenty of reaction online, with social media users reacting with a mix of praise and humour. One widely shared comment joked that he seems to be collecting languages the way people collect Pokémon cards. Online audiences have picked up on his frequent switching between languages across different platforms, fuelling ongoing viral commentary and internet humour surrounding his public appearances. Mamdani’s rise has been driven largely by viral moments, genuine community engagement, and his multilingual outreach. Together, these elements have made him a particularly influential figure among Gen Z and millennial voters. Exit polling data shows just how central younger voters have been to his political base. Roughly 75% to 78% of voters aged 18 to 29 backed him, contributing to a notable rise in youth turnout during recent municipal elections. Unlike many politicians who stick closely to rehearsed talking points, Mamdani’s communication style leans heavily on relatable humour, short-form video content and an active social media presence. Whether he is sharing lighthearted Gen Z-style clips, interacting casually with a neighbourhood cat, or switching fluidly between Mandarin, Bengali and Spanish, his approach reflects both the language and culture of a diverse, younger audience. Beyond his online popularity, younger voters also point to his focus on core issues like housing affordability, economic inequality and broader representation. By treating everyday culture and multilingual communication as central to his political identity rather than an afterthought, Mamdani has reshaped how candidates in the city are attempting to reach younger, more diverse voters.
