It warned that higher energy prices could fuel inflation in the United States and place additional pressure on American consumers ahead of the country’s upcoming midterm elections. The embassy further claimed that political divisions in Washington were undermining the administration’s foreign policy, arguing that some lawmakers were prioritising political objectives over economic realities. Reiterating its long-held position, Russia said years of sanctions had failed to change its policies or weaken its economy in the way Western governments had anticipated. It maintained that further punitive measures would produce limited results against Russia while creating greater economic challenges for the United States. The statement also referred to the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), enacted during President Donald Trump’s first term. Russia argued that the law significantly reduced the executive branch’s flexibility by requiring congressional approval before any sanctions could be lifted or eased. Concluding its remarks, the Russian Embassy expressed hope that the US administration would carefully assess the potential political and economic consequences before moving forward with any new sanctions package.

    Iran says US-Israel attacks damaged 100 commercial aircraft

    Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh has claimed that Iran lost around 100 commercial aircraft during the US-Israeli attacks on the country. She made the remarks during a press conference in Tehran, according to Iranian media. Sadegh said the aviation sector suffered major losses during the conflict. She said airports and other important infrastructure were targeted during the attacks. She added that Iran Air continued operating Hajj flights despite the difficult circumstances. According to the minister, the airline used eight aircraft to operate the flights during the conflict. Sadegh said the damage was not limited to the aviation sector. She claimed that electricity and water facilities were also targeted. Several other key infrastructure installations were reportedly affected. Despite the attacks, transport services continued to operate in several parts of the country. The minister said railway services remained active during the conflict. Road transport also continued. Port operations were also maintained despite the security situation. Sadegh further claimed that the United States and Israel attacked around 400 cities across 25 Iranian provinces. She said the attacks caused extensive damage to civilian and commercial infrastructure. According to her, around 100,000 commercial and residential units were damaged during the conflicts imposed on Iran. The Iranian minister described the damage as extensive. She said the country’s transport infrastructure faced serious pressure during the fighting. The aviation sector was among the areas affected by the conflict. Damage to aircraft and airport infrastructure created additional challenges for domestic and international air travel. Despite these difficulties, Iranian authorities said essential transport operations continued. Railway networks, roads and ports remained operational during the conflict.     PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced that he has received a response from the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) regarding his proposal to establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address the ongoing crisis in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). He said the response marked an important step towards finding a peaceful and institutional solution to the unrest. In a statement issued on Saturday, Bilawal said the committee had shown willingness to consider the proposed commission. He welcomed the response and said it reflected support for resolving the dispute through dialogue rather than confrontation. He added that the proposal had already been endorsed by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The PPP chairman said the loss of every life during the recent unrest was a national tragedy. He stressed that his foremost priority was to help restore peace, reduce tensions, and bring normal life back to the people of AJK as soon as possible. Bilawal said the next stage would involve consultations with AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore. He explained that the prime minister would hold discussions with the federal government and other relevant stakeholders to determine whether sufficient consensus exists to move forward with the proposed commission. According to Bilawal, these consultations are necessary before any final decision is taken. He expressed hope that all parties would work together to develop a mutually acceptable framework capable of addressing the concerns raised during the recent protests. The proposal comes after weeks of political tension between the AJK government and the Joint Awami Action Committee. The dispute intensified over the committee’s demand to abolish the 12 seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly reserved for refugees from Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir who settled in Pakistan after 1947. The disagreement led to widespread demonstrations across the region and increased political uncertainty. Bilawal has repeatedly called for the establishment of an independent Truth and Reconciliation Commission over the past month. He believes such a body could impartially investigate the recent violence, determine the facts surrounding the unrest, and help create conditions for meaningful dialogue between the government and protesters. Speaking at a public gathering in Muzaffarabad earlier this week, Bilawal said maintaining peace, fairness, and transparency was essential during the election period. He argued that resolving the crisis should not be viewed as a political victory or defeat for any party but as a national responsibility aimed at protecting the future of Kashmir and safeguarding Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue.

    Father mourns son killed before wedding day

    The father of murdered Karachi resident Mir Raza Ali Khan has revealed that his son was eagerly preparing for his wedding, which was scheduled to take place on August 30, describing the tragedy as devastating for the family. Speaking to the media, the grieving father said Mir Raza left home on the morning of July 28 for work but never returned. When repeated attempts to contact him failed because his phone was switched off, the family filed a missing person’s report at the local police station the same day. He said the family later traced his last known location through an online ride-hailing service. Upon reaching the location, they found police officials from Gulistan-e-Jauhar already present. According to the father, police informed the family that an unidentified body had been recovered earlier that morning. Although the victim’s face was unrecognizable, the clothes matched those worn by his son, confirming his identity. The bereaved father said Mir Raza had never shared any concerns about business disputes or personal problems with the family, leaving them shocked and searching for answers behind the killing. Mir Raza Ali Khan, a resident of Karachi’s PECHS area, was found dead in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his abduction and murder.
