ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) conducted a targeted raid on an online call center in Islamabad’s G-6 sector and seized digital devices and other material allegedly linked to cybercrime activities.

According to a statement issued by the NCCIA, the operation was carried out on the basis of intelligence information and with a search warrant. During the raid officials seized digital devices and other materials that were allegedly being used for cybercrime-related activities.

The agency said that no arrests were made during the operation because the foreign and local suspects allegedly involved in the activities were not present at the call center when the raid was conducted.

The seized digital equipment has been sent to a forensic laboratory for detailed examination. Investigators are expected to analyze the devices and other material to determine their connection with the suspected cybercrime activities.

The NCCIA said that further details would be shared once the forensic examination and investigation are completed. The agency did not disclose the identities of the individuals allegedly associated with the call center.

Authorities have increasingly focused on online fraud, fake call centers and digital networks allegedly involved in financial and cyber-related crimes. The NCCIA stated that action against fraudulent operations, fake call centers and online fraud networks would continue without discrimination.

The Islamabad call center raid is part of the agency’s ongoing efforts to identify and investigate networks suspected of using digital platforms for illegal activities. The forensic analysis of the seized devices is expected to provide investigators with additional information about the operation and the individuals potentially connected to it.

The agency’s investigation will determine whether the seized equipment was used for cybercrime and what further legal action may be taken against those involved.

For now, no arrests have been reported while the investigation and forensic examination of the seized digital material remain underway.

    AJK gears up for second phase of elections

    Preparations are in full swing for the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, with polling scheduled for August 2 across Muzaffarabad Division and 12 refugee seats. The second phase will cover the three districts of Muzaffarabad Division—Muzaffarabad, Neelum and Jhelum Valley—as well as 12 constituencies reserved for Kashmiri refugees residing in Pakistan. According to election authorities, a total of 890,621 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots in the nine constituencies of Muzaffarabad Division. Of these, 427,955 are male voters, while 381,666 are female voters. To facilitate polling, 1,483 polling stations have been established across the division. District Muzaffarabad, which has five constituencies, will have 1,205 polling stations. District Neelum, comprising two constituencies, will have 278 polling stations, while 328 polling stations have been set up in the two constituencies of Jhelum Valley. A total of 208 candidates are contesting the nine seats in Muzaffarabad Division, making the second phase a closely watched electoral contest. Meanwhile, Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan will also cast their votes for 12 refugee constituencies, evenly divided between six Jammu seats and six Valley seats. The Jammu refugee constituencies include LA-34 Jammu-I through LA-39 Jammu-VI, while the Valley refugee constituencies comprise LA-40 Valley-I through LA-45 Valley-VI. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission will announce the results of all 12 refugee constituencies after the completion of polling.     Lahore: Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt, has expressed deep sorrow over recent electricity-related incidents and reaffirmed that the protection of human life remains the company’s highest priority. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families affected by these unfortunate incidents and urged the public to strictly observe electrical safety precautions during the ongoing monsoon season. According to the LESCO spokesperson, a tragic incident occurred in the Islampura area where a citizen lost his life after receiving an electric shock near a streetlight pole during rainfall. Preliminary investigations revealed that an illegal electricity connection had been obtained through a damaged PVC service cable, allowing leakage current to energize the streetlight pole and resulting in the fatal accident. In another incident reported in the Sitara Colony Sub-Division, electricity was found leaking into a shop’s metal shed. Upon receiving the complaint, LESCO immediately shut down the relevant feeder and dispatched emergency teams to the site. Inspection confirmed that LESCO’s distribution system and service wires were in proper condition, while the leakage originated from the consumer’s own service wire joint, which had come into contact with the metal shed. The fault was promptly rectified, and the area was declared safe. In light of the ongoing monsoon rains across Lahore and other parts of the LESCO region, the company’s field staff, Power Distribution Control (PDC), Control Room, and operational officers have been placed on high alert under the directions of CEO Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt. LESCO is continuously monitoring the power distribution network to ensure the earliest possible restoration of electricity wherever weather-related faults occur. The spokesperson added that once weather conditions permit, LESCO teams immediately begin repair work while strictly following all safety protocols. Recently, after an 11kV feeder near Qaid-e-Azam Industrial Area, Kacha Jail Road was affected due to adverse weather conditions, emergency teams swiftly reached the site, isolated the feeder for safety, and initiated restoration work. Senior officers remained present in the field to supervise operations and ensure that power supply was restored to consumers in the shortest possible time. CEO Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt has directed all field personnel to perform their duties using complete personal protective equipment (PPE) and in accordance with established safety procedures. He also appealed to citizens to avoid illegal electricity connections, unsafe wiring, and substandard electrical installations, particularly during the rainy season. The public is strongly advised to stay away from electric poles, streetlights, broken or hanging wires, metal sheds, and other electrical installations during rainfall or in waterlogged areas.
