The Israeli security cabinet has voted to approve the entry of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) into Gaza, advancing a key component of the US-backed peace plan for the enclave despite opposition from a far-right minister .

The decision, announced on Sunday, paves the way for the deployment of a multinational force under the Board of Peace (BoP) plan, which was endorsed by the UN Security Council in November 2025 . The ISF is intended to oversee security and support reconstruction efforts in the war-torn territory .

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was the sole dissenting voice in the cabinet vote . According to Israeli media, Ben-Gvir argued that Hamas has failed to meet its commitments to demilitarize and disarm, meaning Israel is not obligated to proceed with the plan . He reportedly advocated for encouraging the migration of Palestinians out of Gaza as an alternative solution .

Following the approval, a senior Israeli official outlined key conditions for the ISF’s operation. The force will receive legal immunity under Israeli law and will operate in “full coordination” with the Israeli military in areas outside the military’s control zones .

Stringent conditions have also been placed on which nations can contribute troops. The security cabinet decided that only countries that maintain diplomatic relations with Israel and do not act against it in international forums will be eligible to participate . This clause reportedly excludes nations like Indonesia, which had previously shown interest . The initial force is expected to comprise approximately 200 personnel from “friendly” nations such as Uganda and Morocco .

Israeli officials have further stressed that the military will continue to hold the “yellow line” demarcating its controlled areas in Gaza and will not withdraw further unless Hamas is fully disarmed and the Strip is demilitarized . The ISF deployment is part of a scaled-back pilot project initially focused on a humanitarian zone near Rafah in southern Gaza .

He strongly criticised prolonged power outages across the country and questioned who would be held responsible for the situation. He said ending load-shedding was among the key demands of the protest movement. He also demanded the withdrawal of fixed charges imposed on electricity bills and called for the immediate termination of agreements with independent power producers. Hafiz Naeem accused the government of burdening citizens with rising fuel and electricity costs. He said gas shortages had also reached alarming levels, despite consumers paying high prices for the commodity. Criticising the government’s taxation policies, he alleged that authorities were focused on collecting taxes while businesses were being pushed towards closure. He accused government officials of enjoying expensive facilities at the expense of ordinary citizens. The Jamaat chief warned that if the levy and so-called “bhatta tax” were not withdrawn, no one would be able to stop a mass public movement. He further alleged that the government had been formed through what he described as a “Form 47” mandate and claimed that the party’s protests had exposed irregularities involving diesel pricing. According to Hafiz Naeem, additional refinery charges were being imposed on locally produced diesel, further increasing the burden on consumers and businesses. He also raised questions over the deaths of 14 children in the fire at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), demanding accountability over the incident and criticising the hospital’s administration. The Jamaat chief also accused the country’s three major political parties of engaging in what he described as a political “noora kushti”, alleging that they were creating the appearance of confrontation while avoiding substantive action. Hafiz Naeem said Jamaat-e-Islami would continue its campaign until its demands were addressed and urged traders, industrialists and citizens to join the protest movement.

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to implement a modern digital monitoring system across Pakistan’s oil and gas sector to improve transparency, eliminate hoarding and curb profiteering. The directive was issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to review Ogra’s institutional reforms and measures aimed at strengthening the regulator’s performance. The prime minister said the government was committed to protecting public money and would not allow anyone to exploit consumers or manipulate the country’s energy system for personal gain. He instructed authorities to accelerate Ogra’s reform process and ensure that the government’s institutional reform agenda was implemented effectively across the organisation. Shehbaz Sharif also directed officials to develop a comprehensive digital tracking mechanism for fuel movement, using the Federal Board of Revenue’s modern tracking system as a model. He said the system should closely monitor the transportation of petroleum products from ports and refineries to fuel stations across the country. The prime minister stressed that digital oversight of the entire fuel supply chain would help improve transparency, reduce irregularities and strengthen regulatory enforcement. To improve Ogra’s institutional capacity, he called for the induction of qualified professionals from the private sector with strong reputations and relevant expertise. He also ordered the restructuring of the authority, saying appointments to all positions should be made through a transparent and merit-based process. Shehbaz Sharif assured officials that the federal government would provide all necessary professional and technical support to ensure the successful implementation of Ogra’s reform and restructuring programme.     The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has officially notified the results of the first phase of the Legislative Assembly elections. The notification confirms a strong performance by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the Mirpur Division. The PML-N won nine of the 13 seats contested in the first phase. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured the remaining four seats. The official notification formally declared all successful candidates elected. It also included their parentage, political affiliation and constituencies. In Mirpur district, four assembly seats were contested. The PML-N won two seats. Azhar Sadiq and Chaudhry Rukhsar Ahmed were declared successful. The PPP also won two seats in the district. Qasim Majid and Chaudhry Yasir Sultan secured victories for the party. The PML-N delivered its strongest performance in Bhimber district. The party won all three constituencies in the district. Colonel (retd) Waqar Ahmed Noor, Chaudhry Abdul Razzaq and Chaudhry Tariq Farooq were declared winners. Kotli district had six constituencies. The PML-N secured four of them. Umair Naeem, Raja Muhammad Asif, Raja Riasat Khan and Raja Ayaz Ahmed won their respective constituencies. The PPP captured two seats in Kotli. Malik Zafar Iqbal and Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin were declared successful. With the notification, the election authority has formally confirmed all 13 members elected from the Mirpur Division. The results give the PML-N an early advantage in the three-phase AJK election. The party now enters the next stage with nine seats from the first phase. The PPP has four seats and remains a key political force in the division. Attention has now shifted towards the second phase of polling. The second phase is scheduled for August 2. Voting will take place across the Muzaffarabad Division. The phase will include nine general constituencies in Muzaffarabad, Jhelum Valley and Neelum Valley. It will also include 12 reserved seats for refugees from Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir residing in Pakistan. The third and final phase will be held in the Rawalakot Division. The final phase will cover constituencies in Rawalakot, Sudhnoti, Bagh and Haveli. Political parties are expected to intensify their campaigns ahead of the remaining phases. The PML-N’s strong opening performance has increased pressure on rival parties. The upcoming rounds will determine whether the party can maintain its momentum across other divisions.
