Keep lizards away with bird feathers

Seeing a lizard inside the house is quite common. Most house lizards are not poisonous or dangerous but many people feel uncomfortable or scared when they see them.

This is why people often try simple home methods to keep lizards away. Lizards can actually help control insects because they eat small bugs.

However most people still do not want them inside their homes. If lizards often appear on walls in the kitchen or in other parts of the house a few simple steps may help reduce their presence.

Use bird feathers

Some people use bird feathers as a traditional way to keep lizards away.  Lizards are natural prey for birds so the sight of feathers may make them feel that a bird could be nearby.

Peacock feathers are sometimes placed in areas where lizards are often seen.  Besides being used as a traditional method they can also work as a decorative item.

Try eggshells

Eggshells are another popular home remedy. After using eggs the shells can be cleaned and placed in areas where lizards are commonly seen. Some people believe that the smell of eggshells may discourage lizards from staying in the area.

However this method may not work equally well for everyone.

Use garlic

Garlic is also commonly used to keep lizards away because of its strong smell.  You can place a few garlic cloves near corners windows or other possible entry points. The strong smell may help discourage lizards from coming into these areas.

Keep the House clean

Home remedies alone may not be enough.  Keeping your house clean is one of the best ways to reduce lizard visits.

Avoid leaving food uncovered and clean crumbs or leftover food quickly.

It is also important to control insects because mosquitoes flies and other small bugs are a major food source for lizards.

By keeping the home clean reducing insects and blocking possible entry points you can make your home less attractive to lizards.

In India a viral video has raised concerns after showing schoolchildren taking a highly risky route to get to school in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district. The students reportedly have to jump across a river embankment to reach their school while strong water flows below. The dangerous journey has shocked people on social media and raised serious questions about the safety of the children. Parents and local residents say there is no safe route for the children to reach school forcing them to take the dangerous path every day. The situation becomes even more risky during the rainy season when the water level and flow increase. Locals have urged the authorities to inspect the area immediately and provide a safe and permanent route for the students instead of waiting for a tragic accident to happen.

    You may have heard people say that going to the gym or lifting weights can stop your height from growing.  Because of this belief some young people avoid exercise and weight training. But is this really true?  Let’s find out. Going to the gym has become very popular among people who want to stay fit and healthy.  Some people exercise to lose weight while others want to gain muscle and strength. Gym workouts are especially popular among young people. However several myths about weight training still create confusion. One common myth is that going to the gym at a young age can stop height growth. This belief is especially common among teenagers and young people between 18 and 20 years old. Can weightlifting stop height growth? Many people believe that lifting heavy weights at a young age can prevent the body from growing taller especially when a person carries heavy weights on their shoulders. However there is no strong scientific evidence that normal strength training stops a person’s height from increasing.  Weightlifting itself does not automatically stop growth. However young people should be careful when doing heavy workouts.  Using too much weight or exercising with the wrong technique can cause injuries.  Younger people should learn proper form and when possible exercise under the guidance of a qualified trainer. What actually affects height? A person’s height is mainly influenced by genetics. Hormones nutrition sleep and overall lifestyle can also play a role in healthy growth.if the body does not produce certain growth related hormones properly it can affect normal development. Poor nutrition can also prevent the body from getting the nutrients it needs for healthy growth. The body also contains growth plates which are areas near the ends of certain bones that help bones grow longer during childhood and adolescence.  These growth plates naturally close as a person reaches physical maturity. Therefore going to the gym does not simply stop height growth.  A healthy diet proper exercise enough sleep and safe workout techniques are more important for overall growth and fitness.

    Documentary film on the struggle for Joint Elector…

    By Yassar Talib Aiman Zameer Lahore: The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) held a screening of its documentary film, A Separation Refused, highlighting the Movement for the Restoration of the Joint Electorate in Pakistan, at a local hotel in Lahore. The 20-minute documentary film, by the award-winning the producer and director, CSJ and Dawood Akhtar Murad, traces the culmination of the world unique Separate Electorate system in Pakistan’s history and the movement for the restoration of the Joint Electorate in Pakistan especially during the 1990s to 2001. The film chronicles the efforts of civil society organizations, political leaders, faith communities, and human rights advocates who campaigned for equal citizenship and inclusive democratic participation for religious minorities. Using historical accounts and personal testimonies, the film illustrates how sustained advocacy contributed to democratic reforms and continues to inspire efforts towards equality, pluralism, social cohesion, and the protection of constitutional rights. Featuring over a dozen interviews, it brings together insights from Hina Jilani, Cardinal Joseph Coutts, Dr. Charles Amjad Ali, Dr. Yaqoob Bangash, and other prominent voices offering diverse perspectives youth, clergy and a parliamentarian. The even also premiered a song Hum Juda Nahein (We Are Not Separate) that expressed the The screenings were followed by an interactive panel discussion explored the progress made towards equal citizenship and the continuing challenges to the democratic participation of religious minorities in Pakistan. The panelists, Wajahat Masood a public intellectual and Peter Jacob, answered the questions while the academic Faaria Khan moderated the discussion. While addressing the participants, Wajahat Masood, said that democracy is based on the principle of equal citizenship and that the categorization of citizens into majorities and minorities reflects a constitutional anomaly. Referring to the Separate Electorate system, he noted that institutionalizing such divisions weakened democratic systems and undermined the principle of equal political participation. In response to a question on the rationale behind the documentary, Peter Jacob, Executive Director CSJ, said that the importance of the movement warranted a careful reading of the history. He noted that the film was developed to preserve authentic accounts of the struggle for the restoration of the Joint Electorate and to address competing interpretations of history and misunderstandings. He also emphasized the need for constitutional reforms to strengthen equal citizenship. He called for a review of Articles 41 and 91 of the Constitution, to remove precondition of religious affiliation for the offices of the President and Prime Minister. Moreover, implementation of Article 22(1) of the constitution of Pakistan that guarantees unbiased education. In the open discussion, participants emphasized that the message of documentary film highlighting constitutional rights, democratic inclusion, should be screened more widely through universities, arts councils, mainstream media, and other public platforms to encourage informed dialogue and greater public awareness. They further stressed that equal citizenship is not solely the concern of religious minorities but a shared national responsibility, and called for greater participation and support from the majority community in future advocacy and dialogue. At the end the participants reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing constitutional rights, equal citizenship, participatory democracy, and peaceful coexistence through collective action.

  • Scientists uncover clue behind Antarctica’s mysterious blood falls

    Scientists have uncovered an important clue about the source of the mysterious red water flowing from Antarctica’s famous Blood Falls in Taylor Valley. The iron-rich and crimson-coloured saline water has fascinated researchers for decades. While its red color has long been attributed to the iron it contains, a new study offers fresh insight into where the water originated. According to research published in the journal Nature Geoscience, scientists have found molecular and genetic evidence indicating that the salty water flowing from Blood Falls has a marine origin. The findings strengthen the long-standing theory that the water was once part of an ancient sea. Researchers collected and analyzed 167 samples of water, sediment and air from Blood Falls and the surrounding area. The study found that samples from Blood Falls contained 9 percent eukaryotic genetic signatures associated with marine environments compared with only about 1 percent in samples collected from nearby locations. According to the researchers, the new evidence strongly supports the theory that the water at Blood Falls originates from a reservoir of ancient seawater that became trapped beneath the Taylor Glacier millions of years ago. The researchers said the presence of strong marine genetic signatures in the red saline water provides evidence that an ancient marine ecosystem once existed there before becoming isolated beneath Antarctica’s thick ice sheet. Scientists believe this discovery could improve our understanding of how microscopic organisms survive in some of the harshest environments on Earth. The findings may also help researchers investigate the possibility of life beneath the icy surfaces of other worlds, including Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons and Enceladus, a moon of Saturn.

  • MIT robot can fly and swim

    Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created a unique robot that can both fly through the air and swim underwater just like diving birds. The lightweight robot costs around $300 and was designed by MIT’s AeroAquatic Robotics team.  Scientists believe it could one day help monitor oceans study marine life and support environmental protection. The robot was inspired by diving birds which use the same wings to fly in the air and move through water.  While scientists have studied these birds for years building a robot that can perform both tasks efficiently has been a major challenge. To solve this the MIT team carefully studied how diving birds move and used those findings to design the new machine. The robot called the Flapping Aerial Aquatic Vehicle weighs only 250 grams.  It runs on a battery powered motor and has nylon wings and a tail coated with water resistant nanoparticles to protect them from moisture. According to the researchers the robot is programmed to flap its wings at a specific frequency allowing it to move smoothly in both air and water without changing its basic movement. It can fly at speeds of up to 13.4 miles per hour and swim at about 2.2 miles per hour. On a single battery charge it is designed to fly as far as 6 kilometers or swim up to 2 kilometers. The robot was tested for about one year first in a water tank in Massachusetts and later in Lake Geneva Switzerland where researchers evaluated its performance in real world conditions.
