Legarda extends medical leave until September 16
MANILA, Philippines — Senator Loren Legarda has again extended her medical leave until September 16, Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr. confirmed.
Bantug said that the senator filed for medical leave from September 7 to 9, and from September 14 to 16.
This is the latest medical leave filed by Legarda, who first left the country with her son, Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Leviste left the Philippines, on August 2. This was days after plunder and graft complaints were announced against them by the Office of the Ombudsman over the latter’s solar energy projects.
Legarda first filed for medical leave from August 3 to 5, then extended it from August 11 to 12, and again from August 17 to 19.
The senator previously confirmed that she had filed for medical leave with the Senate and asked the public “not to draw unwarranted conclusions from my travel or link it to the recent false and baseless allegations, which undeservedly besmirch a reputation that I have built over decades of public service.”
Legarda and three other senators — Jinggoy Estrada and Rodante Marcoleta who are detained over plunder charges, and Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa who is in hiding over an International Criminal Court warrant of arrest — have stopped receiving salaries as they remain absent from plenary sessions of the Senate and the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. – Rappler.com
