Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited the Federal Constabulary Training Centre in Shabqadar and reviewed special training exercises conducted by the Anti-Riot Wing.

During the visit, Naqvi observed various practical drills designed to test the personnel’s operational skills, discipline and preparedness. He praised the officers and personnel for their professional training and ability to respond to challenging law-and-order situations.

Naqvi said the Anti-Riot Wing had received modern training and was fully equipped to help maintain peace and public order. He stressed that the government would not allow anyone to undermine the country’s stability.

The interior minister acknowledged that peaceful protest remains a constitutional right, but said citizens must follow the procedures prescribed by law. He added that the state would continue to fulfil its responsibility to maintain public order, while authorities would deal with anyone who violates the law according to legal provisions.

Naqvi highlighted the Federal Constabulary’s growing importance amid the current law-and-order situation, saying its personnel must remain prepared to respond to a wide range of challenges. He directed the trainees to make the most of their training and enter the field with strong professional skills and complete operational readiness.

The minister also ordered the provision of gas masks to all personnel and said the government was arranging modern protective equipment that meets international standards.

During his visit to the FC headquarters, Naqvi announced plans to improve sports facilities for the personnel, including the construction of an international-standard swimming pool.

He also inspected the barracks and met with FC personnel to hear about their concerns. Naqvi directed officials to reconstruct all washrooms at the facility.

The minister also asked personnel about electricity supply, recalling that they had complained about load-shedding during his previous visit. The personnel told him that the situation had improved and they now receive uninterrupted electricity.

Naqvi further directed officials to take immediate steps to facilitate the cancer treatment of the mother of an FC personnel member.

    Current Petroleum prices to remain unchanged until…

    The federal government has announced that current petroleum product prices will remain unchanged until July 27. According to sources from the Petroleum Division, petrol will continue to be sold at Rs335.18 per litre, while high-speed diesel will remain at Rs383.46 per litre. The price of kerosene oil has also been maintained at Rs301.14 per litre. This decision comes after the government introduced a daily fuel price revision mechanism on July 18 to reflect fluctuations in the international market. Since then, prices have seen multiple adjustments. On July 18, petrol became more expensive by Rs5.44 per litre and diesel by Rs31.05 per litre. Due to the closure of international markets, prices were revised on July 21, with petrol decreasing by Rs0.35 per litre while diesel increased by Rs5.71 per litre. Subsequent revisions saw petrol and diesel prices rise by Rs4.93 and Rs7.15 per litre on July 22, followed by further increases of Rs6.39 and Rs7.83 per litre on July 23. On July 24, petrol was hiked by Rs4.40 and diesel by Rs3.62 per litre. The latest decision to freeze prices until July 27 provides temporary relief to consumers after a series of increases driven by volatility in global oil markets. The daily price revision mechanism, introduced amid rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, aims to ensure timely adjustments to international market trends. However, the frequent changes have drawn criticism from dealers and consumers alike. The government has assured that it is monitoring the situation closely and will continue to make adjustments as needed to balance the impact on the economy and the public. The current freeze offers a brief respite before the next scheduled revision, with consumers hoping for stability in the coming days.

    Flash floods cut off lower Chitral

    Heavy rains have once again triggered flash floods in the Broz and Gumbas Gol streams of Lower Chitral, causing widespread damage and disrupting road connectivity. The powerful floodwaters swept away the remaining section of Gumbas Bridge, further worsening transportation problems in the area. Flood debris covered the Chitral-Peshawar Road, forcing authorities to suspend traffic. A petrol station also suffered damage as floodwaters rushed through the area. The National Highway Authority (NHA) has deployed heavy machinery to clear debris and restore the road for traffic. Meanwhile, flash floods blocked routes in Baroz Gol and Sheedi village, leaving several communities cut off from the main road network. The flooding has also disrupted communications after the main fibre-optic link was damaged, cutting internet services across affected areas. Thousands of residents remain stranded amid difficult conditions, with limited access to food, shelter and communication. The destruction has spread across a large part of Chitral. Several areas, from Sheshi Koh Valley and Drosh town in Lower Chitral to Mastuj in Upper Chitral, have suffered from damaged roads and disrupted connectivity. Authorities are continuing relief and clearance operations as heavy machinery works to reopen key routes and restore access to affected communities.

    ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Bar Association has expressed concern over the reported deterioration in the health of human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, while they remain in custody. The association has urged the chief justices of the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court to take immediate notice of their reported medical condition. IBA Acting President Iram Rashid and Secretary Raja Khawar Dhaniyal conveyed the concerns in a letter addressed to the chief justices of both courts. The bar association said Mazari was facing serious health problems in jail and required regular medical care. It also raised concerns about Chattha’s condition and called for appropriate medical attention for him. The IBA stressed that access to timely and adequate healthcare is a fundamental right of every prisoner. It said authorities responsible for detainees must ensure that inmates receive necessary medical treatment and facilities. The association called for urgent attention to the matter, particularly in view of the reported health concerns of the two detainees. The IBA maintained that a person’s detention should not prevent them from receiving essential medical care. It urged the relevant authorities to take appropriate steps to protect their health and wellbeing.

    AJK orders re-polling at 23 stations in Bagh

    MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission has ordered re-polling at 23 polling stations in two constituencies of Bagh district following disruptions during the third phase of the AJK elections. Re-polling will take place on August 15. It will cover nine polling stations in LA-15 Bagh Central and 14 polling stations in LA-16 Bagh East. The decision was taken after voting at several polling stations either failed to start on time or was disrupted and later cancelled. The four constituencies of Bagh and Haveli went to the polls on August 10. Elections in other parts of Poonch Division had earlier been delayed because of law and order concerns. In LA-15, PPP candidate Sardar Ziaul Qamar was leading according to unofficial results. He had secured 16,637 votes. PML-N candidate Mushtaq Ahmed Minhas was in second place with 15,015 votes. Jamaat-i-Islami candidate Brigadier (retd) Dr Mohammad Khan had received 12,259 votes. The nine polling stations scheduled for re-polling have more than 5,000 registered voters. Their votes could have a significant impact on the final result. Former AJK prime minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, who contested the constituency on the PTI ticket in the 2021 election, appeared to have fallen out of contention. A close contest was also reported in LA-16 Bagh East. PML-N candidate Sardar Mir Akbar was leading with 19,515 votes. PPP candidate Sardar Qamaruz Zaman had secured 16,290 votes. The 14 polling stations where re-polling has been ordered reportedly account for around 7,200 votes. Meanwhile, the Election Commission announced the preliminary result for LA-14 Dhirkot. Sajid Iqbal Abbasi of the Awami Dast-o-Bazu Party defeated Muslim Conference president Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan. Abbasi secured 40,522 votes, while Attique received 19,637 votes. The result marked a major setback for the Muslim Conference, which has historically been one of the region’s prominent political parties. The result of LA-17 Haveli also became controversial. PML-N candidate Chaudhry Mohsin Aziz demanded a recount and alleged irregularities in election documents. Aziz claimed that Form-24 documents from different polling stations had been altered. Election officials began examining the complaint. Ballot papers and other election material were also reportedly moved under security to Muzaffarabad for further counting and verification. Aziz called on PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to support a recount. He claimed that results signed by presiding officers showed him leading by around 8,600 votes. However, state broadcaster Radio Pakistan, citing the Election Commission, reported that PPP candidate and AJK Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore had won the LA-17 seat. The AJK elections are being held in three phases. The polls have taken place amid political tensions and law and order concerns in several parts of the region. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has so far secured 24 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party has won 10 constituencies, according to the available results. The first two phases also witnessed allegations of electoral irregularities, clashes and political disputes. Both major parties have traded accusations over the conduct of the elections. The third phase was originally planned across all 11 constituencies of Poonch Division. However, voting was allowed only in Bagh and Haveli because of security concerns.

She was 83 years old.  Chris Anne Affleck, a Harvard graduate and longtime elementary school teacher, was admired not only for raising Oscar-winning actors Ben and Casey Affleck but also for her lifelong dedication to education, civil rights, and community service. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2025 and spent her final months surrounded by family. One of her last wishes was to attend her grandson’s high school graduation, a milestone she proudly celebrated just two days before her passing.  Garner and Ben Affleck were married from 2005 until their separation in 2015 and finalized their divorce in 2018.
