Islamabad Bar raises alarm over Imaan Mazari’s h…

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Bar Association has expressed concern over the reported deterioration in the health of human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, while they remain in custody.

The association has urged the chief justices of the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court to take immediate notice of their reported medical condition.

IBA Acting President Iram Rashid and Secretary Raja Khawar Dhaniyal conveyed the concerns in a letter addressed to the chief justices of both courts.

The bar association said Mazari was facing serious health problems in jail and required regular medical care. It also raised concerns about Chattha’s condition and called for appropriate medical attention for him.

The IBA stressed that access to timely and adequate healthcare is a fundamental right of every prisoner. It said authorities responsible for detainees must ensure that inmates receive necessary medical treatment and facilities.

The association called for urgent attention to the matter, particularly in view of the reported health concerns of the two detainees.

The IBA maintained that a person’s detention should not prevent them from receiving essential medical care. It urged the relevant authorities to take appropriate steps to protect their health and wellbeing.

PML-N eyes two-thirds majority in AJK

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah has expressed confidence that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will form the next government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with a two-thirds majority. Addressing an election rally in Bagh on Saturday, Sanaullah urged voters to turn out in large numbers for Monday’s polling in Bagh and Haveli. He said the PML-N had won 24 seats in the first two phases and needed six more seats to secure a two-thirds majority. Sanaullah predicted that the party would win four additional seats in the August 10 elections in Bagh and Haveli, while securing another five seats when polling takes place later in the remaining constituencies of Poonch Division. He said AJK voters had placed their trust in the PML-N, its leader Nawaz Sharif and the party’s development record in Punjab. The third phase was initially planned for all 11 constituencies of Poonch Division. However, authorities revised the schedule due to law and order concerns. Polling on August 10 will now take place only in Bagh and Haveli, with elections in the remaining constituencies to follow later. Sanaullah also promised that a future PML-N government would focus on development projects across AJK. He further said the government would hold talks with representatives of the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which has been protesting across the region and demanding the removal of 12 seats in the AJK legislature reserved for refugees from Indian-administered Kashmir. Sanaullah said resolving the JAAC’s concerns would be among the new government’s priorities if the PML-N secures a two-thirds majority.

    Punjab bans manual receipts

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has banned the issuance of handwritten or manual receipts by businesses operating in the province, according to a notification issued by the authority. Under the new directive, hotels, restaurants, coffee shops and marriage halls must use the Electronic Invoice Management System (EIMS) for issuing customer receipts. The system aims to ensure that businesses properly record their transactions and comply with provincial sales tax regulations. A PRA spokesperson said businesses covered by the directive must generate receipts through EIMS instead of providing handwritten slips or informal receipts to customers. The authority will monitor compliance and take action against businesses that fail to follow the requirement. Businesses that do not issue receipts through the EIMS may face fines ranging from Rs400,000 to Rs1 million, the spokesperson said. The PRA has also warned that repeated violations could lead to stricter action. Authorities may seal the business premises for up to one month if an establishment continues to disregard the rules despite previous enforcement measures. The move forms part of the Punjab government’s efforts to strengthen digital documentation of commercial transactions, improve tax compliance and reduce the possibility of underreporting sales and tax liabilities. The authority has urged businesses in the affected sectors to ensure that their invoicing systems comply with the new requirements to avoid financial penalties and other enforcement action.

He also ordered the Water Board to clean sewerage lines and arrange backup power for pumping stations. Power utility K-Electric said its emergency teams had been placed on alert following the rainfall. The company advised residents to stay away from electricity poles, meters, overhead cables, and other electrical infrastructure during and after the rain.
