    The Sindh government has constituted a third medical board to carry out the exhumation and medico-legal examination of 25-year-old businessman Mir Ali Raza’s body, following controversy over the findings of his initial post-mortem report. The new eight-member medical board was notified by the Sindh Health Department on Friday after two earlier notifications were withdrawn. The exhumation, which was initially scheduled for Friday, was postponed after the deceased’s family raised objections over the sudden changes in the medical board. According to the latest notification, Police Surgeon Dr Sumaiyya Syed has been appointed as the convener of the board, while Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) Pathology Department Head Professor Dr Naseem Ahmed will serve as the pathologist. Other members of the board include forensic expert Dr Farah Waseem from Jinnah Sindh Medical University, forensic identification expert Amir Hassan Khan, Additional Police Surgeon Dr Srichand, and medico-legal officers from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), including Dr Kamran Khan and Dr Daniyal Mirza. The board has also been authorized to include additional experts if required. The exhumation has been scheduled for Saturday, August 8, at 11am, according to the Office of the Police Surgeon. A civil judge and judicial magistrate Karachi-XXI will also be present during the procedure. The decision to exhume Mir Ali Raza’s body came after his father approached the court seeking further investigation. A Karachi court allowed the exhumation and directed authorities to form a medico-legal board to examine the circumstances surrounding his death. The case gained attention after concerns were raised regarding possible inconsistencies in the original autopsy report. Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Sumaiyya Syed had pointed out that certain observations in the post-mortem report appeared inconsistent with available photographs, including questions regarding the bullet entry and exit wounds. She stated that the reported bullet trajectory and wounds required further examination and noted that gunshot residue testing, which can be relevant in suspected suicide cases, had not been conducted. Police officials responded by saying that such comments could affect the ongoing investigation but acknowledged that exhumation could provide further clarification through a committee of medical experts with court approval. Mir Ali Raza, the owner of food outlet Wafflix, went missing on July 28. His body was discovered the following day near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-e-Jauhar with a gunshot wound. Initially, a kidnapping case was registered at Ferozabad Police Station on his father’s complaint. Police said their investigation indicated that Ali had been facing financial difficulties and had contacted friends for financial assistance before his death. Investigators said he left his home in PECHS Block-2 and traveled by a ride-hailing taxi, which dropped him near the location where his body was later found. The latest medical board is expected to examine the remains and provide further forensic findings that may help clarify the circumstances surrounding Mir Ali Raza’s death.

Israeli military withdrawals would take place in phases, linked to progress in the disarmament process. A member of the Hamas delegation said the group’s implementation of the agreement would depend on Israel fulfilling its own obligations under the deal. Meanwhile, Egypt is expected to host a high-level meeting involving mediators from the United States, Qatar and Türkiye to discuss the next stage of the ceasefire roadmap and oversee implementation of the agreement. If successfully implemented, the framework is expected to pave the way for humanitarian recovery, reconstruction efforts and the establishment of a Palestinian-led administration in Gaza. However, analysts say the agreement’s success will ultimately depend on both sides fully honouring their commitments during the implementation process.

He appreciated their decision to postpone the strike in the interest of the public and emphasized the importance of resolving issues through consultation rather than confrontation. The minister acknowledged that the country has been facing economic and regional challenges, particularly since developments in the region earlier this year. According to Ali Pervaiz Malik, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is fully aware of the hardships being faced by citizens and remains committed to minimizing the impact of economic pressures on the people.     Lahore: The 5th meeting of the Board of the Punjab Women Protection Authority (PWPA) was held under the chairpersonship of Ms. Hina Pervaiz Butt, where members reviewed the Authority’s performance and approved a series of important policy and administrative measures aimed at strengthening institutional capacity and expanding protection services for women across Punjab. The Board reviewed the implementation status of decisions taken during its previous meeting and expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved. Members emphasized the importance of further strengthening the Authority to ensure accessible, effective and survivor-centred services for women throughout the province. The Board approved the revised organizational structure of PWPA and stressed the need for the early filling of vacant positions to enhance the Authority’s operational efficiency and institutional capacity. The Board also approved the Punjab Women Protection Authority (Terms and Conditions of Service) Regulations, 2026, including revised provisions relating to appointments and service matters, to establish a transparent and efficient human resource framework for the Authority. It was further decided that the Punjab Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Department will undertake development initiatives relating to the establishment of new PWPA facilities and infrastructure in coordination with the Authority. Director General Punjab Women Protection Authority, Dr. Lubna Nazir, briefed the Board on the Authority’s recent achievements, including the digitization of case records, implementation of awareness campaigns, progress in service delivery, and the increasing number of registered cases being handled by PWPA. She also informed the Board that the Authority had received more than 3,000 applications for its Internship Programme, reflecting growing public confidence and youth engagement. Dr. Lubna Nazir further informed the Board that the PWPA Helpline has been upgraded to a toll-free service (0800-01737) to make support services more accessible to women across Punjab. During the meeting, Secretary Punjab Social Welfare & Bait-ul-Maal Department, Ms. Sara Omar, emphasized that every woman in Punjab who needs assistance should have access to PWPA’s services. She underlined that achieving this objective requires further strengthening the Authority through enhanced human resources, institutional development, and capacity building so that PWPA can effectively extend its outreach across the province. The Board also appreciated the Authority’s growing collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), acknowledging its role as an important development partner supporting institutional strengthening and capacity-building initiatives. Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Hina Pervaiz Butt reaffirmed PWPA’s commitment to working in close coordination with all relevant government departments and partner organizations to further strengthen Punjab’s women protection system. She stated that under the leadership and special focus of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Government of Punjab is committed to building strong and responsive institutions that provide timely protection, legal assistance, rehabilitation, psychosocial support, and other essential services to women across the province. The Chairperson thanked all Board members for their valuable input and reiterated the Authority’s resolve to implement the Board’s decisions effectively to further strengthen the protection framework for women in Punjab.
