Nicole Kidman makes surprise confession about her …

Nicole Kidman has opened up about one of the most defining chapters of her life, reflecting on her high-profile marriage to Tom Cruise and the impact it had on her early career.

In a candid interview with British Vogue, the Oscar-winning actress looked back on marrying Cruise at a very young age. Kidman was just 22 when she entered the spotlight as the wife of one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. She admitted that the experience quickly changed how the public viewed her.

“Because of who I married, at such a young age, I was thrust into it since I was 22,” Kidman said. “Yeah, I got married so young.” (People.com)

Kidman and Cruise met while working together on Days of Thunder in 1990. They married on Christmas Eve that same year and went on to become one of Hollywood’s most closely watched couples. During their 11-year marriage, they adopted two children, Isabella and Connor, and appeared together in films including Far and Away and Eyes Wide Shut. (People.com)

Looking back, Kidman said she was deeply in love and did not worry about how the marriage might affect her professional future. She recalled being warned that marrying such a famous actor could hurt her career, but she simply wanted to follow her heart.

“I was in love. I wanted to be married,” she explained, according to reports on the interview. At the time, she did not see the decision as something that needed to be carefully calculated. (Page Six)

However, Kidman acknowledged that the prediction about her identity becoming tied to Cruise eventually came true. For years, she was often described primarily as “Tom Cruise’s wife,” rather than being recognized independently for her own work. (The Times)

Their marriage ended in 2001, but Kidman later built an acclaimed career of her own, earning major recognition for films such as The Hours and becoming a leading figure in television through projects including Big Little Lies and The Undoing.

Today, Kidman appears to view her younger self with greater understanding. Rather than completely rejecting that chapter, she recognizes how much it shaped the woman and performer she eventually became.

Her latest comments offer a rare glimpse into a relationship she has generally kept private. More than two decades after the divorce, Kidman’s reflections suggest that her past remains complicated—but it is also an important part of the journey that helped define her remarkable career.

Punjab University rejects allegations, alleges sme…

LAHORE: Punjab University has strongly denied allegations recently levelled by two former female athletes, describing the claims as part of a coordinated campaign aimed at damaging the institution’s reputation during its ongoing admissions season. According to university spokesperson Dr. Khurram Shehzad, Punjab University has witnessed an unprecedented response to admissions this year, with more than 85,000 applications received for various academic programmes by July 31. The university also recorded its highest-ever participation in the entry test, while the application deadline remains August 4. He claimed that the institution’s success had prompted certain groups to launch what he termed a deliberate propaganda campaign. The spokesperson said the controversy involving the two former sports students stemmed from disciplinary issues rather than the serious allegations circulated on social media. He maintained that the matter originated after a dispute between members of the girls’ sports hostel and disagreements related to team selection. According to the university, the students were involved in repeated altercations with fellow athletes, prompting the hostel administration to initiate an inquiry. Pending the outcome of the investigation, the students concerned were instructed to vacate the hostel. However, the university alleged that they refused to comply and later became involved in another confrontation, after which police were called following an emergency complaint. The incidents led the hostel inquiry committee to hold emergency meetings and ultimately order the closure of the girls’ sports hostel. The university further stated that one of the former athletes was not selected for the baseball team because of disciplinary concerns rather than sporting performance. It alleged that she later threatened to leave the university if she was not included in the squad and voluntarily applied to withdraw her original academic documents. During the document collection process, the university claims she, along with another former student and several others, attempted to pressure the administration by threatening to release a video portraying an alleged suicide attempt if their demands were not met. Punjab University said both students voluntarily collected their academic documents and left the institution. It also claimed that one of them subsequently joined another university’s sports team while Punjab University went on to win the championship without her. The university said it possesses evidence supporting its position and confirmed that faculty members, staff, and female students from the Department of Sports have submitted a formal complaint to the cybercrime authorities against the two former athletes and individuals allegedly involved in what it described as an organised campaign against the institution. The administration condemned attempts to use former students for what it called vested interests and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the university’s reputation through legal channels

Neymar answers critics with poker celebration on Santos return

Brazilian star Neymar marked his long-awaited return to action for Santos by scoring twice and responding to recent criticism with a playful goal celebration inspired by poker. The veteran forward helped Santos come from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against bottom-placed Chapecoense in Brazil’s Serie A on Saturday. The 34-year-old made his first appearance for Santos after spending two-and-a-half months on the sidelines. His return came at a crucial stage of the season, with Santos battling to avoid relegation from Brazil’s top flight. Although the draw earned the club an important point, Santos remain in danger, sitting just one point above the relegation zone. Neymar had come under renewed criticism earlier in the week after taking part in a poker tournament while his Santos teammates were playing a Copa Sudamericana match in Venezuela. His decision sparked debate among fans and pundits, with many questioning his priorities during his injury lay-off. The Brazilian forward appeared to respond to those comments after opening the scoring. Following his first goal, Neymar celebrated by pretending to deal playing cards, an apparent reference to the poker tournament that had attracted criticism. Moments later, he added another light-hearted celebration by using the corner flag to imitate a golf swing, further acknowledging the public scrutiny surrounding his off-field activities. Despite the criticism, Neymar delivered when Santos needed him most. His two goals helped the struggling side recover from a difficult position and earn a valuable draw. While the result did not move Santos away from the relegation battle, it provided encouragement as the club fights to remain in Brazil’s top division. The match also marked Neymar’s first appearance since Brazil’s disappointing FIFA World Cup campaign. The country’s all-time leading goalscorer recently announced the end of his international career after Brazil were eliminated by Norway in the Round of 16, bringing an end to one of the most successful international careers in the nation’s history. Having stepped away from international football, Neymar is now expected to focus entirely on helping Santos improve their domestic fortunes. His experience and leadership will be vital as the club attempts to avoid relegation during the remainder of the season. Fans welcomed Neymar’s return, with many praising his immediate impact despite the recent controversy. His performance demonstrated that he remains capable of making the difference on the pitch, even as discussions about his lifestyle continue off it. While his poker-themed celebration is likely to generate further debate, Neymar made one thing clear through his display against Chapecoense: he intends to answer his critics with performances rather than words. With Santos still facing a difficult fight for survival, the club will hope their star forward can maintain his fitness and continue producing decisive performances in the weeks ahead.

Trump hosts Netanyahu, Zelensky for high level tal…

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump is set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Tuesday, as the wars involving Iran and Ukraine enter what officials describe as a decisive and highly sensitive phase. The two leaders are in Washington to attend a memorial service for Senator Lindsey Graham, a prominent Republican ally of Trump and a strong advocate of military support for Ukraine. However, the diplomatic spotlight has shifted to their separate meetings with the US president, which are expected to focus on two of the world’s most volatile conflicts. Trump’s relationship with Zelensky has improved significantly in recent months as Ukrainian forces have slowed Russian advances and intensified strikes on Russian energy infrastructure. Ahead of his meeting, Zelensky said strengthening anti-ballistic missile defence and expanding strategic cooperation with the United States were his top priorities, stressing that efforts to bring peace closer must continue. Despite renewed diplomatic contacts, there is little indication that either the Ukraine war or the widening confrontation involving Iran is nearing an end. Following the collapse of a ceasefire linked to the Iran conflict, Trump has said he paused US airstrikes to allow diplomacy another opportunity, while continuing consultations with regional allies. Netanyahu arrives in Washington amid signs of growing frustration within theWhite House over the lack of progress toward a broader settlement related to Iran. Tensions between Trump and the Israeli leader have become more visible in recent weeks, including reports of a heated phone conversation in June that was later publicly acknowledged by Trump. According to sources familiar with the discussions, Netanyahu is also seeking to reinforce his political standing ahead of Israel’s October 27 election. A public display of close coordination with Trump could help him domestically, where he has faced pressure in opinion polls. Before departing for Washington, Netanyahu said the talks would focus primarily on Iran, while also addressing regional security and efforts to expand peace agreements with Arab states. A White House official said Trump plans to discuss the Iran conflict, tensions between Israel and Lebanon, and the future of the Abraham Accords. The administration is reportedly continuing efforts to encourage Saudi Arabia to join the accords, although Riyadh has maintained that any normalisation with Israel would require a credible pathway toward Palestinian statehood. Trump struck a notably warmer tone when speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, describing Netanyahu as a strong wartime leader and saying the two had worked well together.Zelensky is expected to hold a brief private meeting with Trump, likely without media present. Ukrainian officials say securing additional Patriot missile interceptors is their most urgent request, as Russian missile and drone attacks continue almost daily. The Ukrainian president is also expected to push for expanded air-defence cooperation, progress on a drone agreement with the United States, and discussions on Trump’s proposal to allow Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptors under licence. White House officials said the meeting with Zelensky would focus on the ongoing peace process between Russia and Ukraine and reiterated that the administration believes the time has come to seek an end to the war. After the White House talks, Zelensky is expected to visit Capitol Hill for meetings with all 100 US senators, underscoring the continuing bipartisan interest in Ukraine’s defence despite growing debate over the pace and delivery of American military assistance.
