Islamabad:Details of the salaries and benefits of senior officials at Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) were presented before the Senate, revealing that the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer receives a basic monthly salary of more than Rs. 5.56 million.

The information was shared with parliament as part of a disclosure concerning the remuneration packages of senior executives at the state-owned exploration and production company. The figures show significant differences in the basic salaries of OGDC’s top management, with the company’s highest-paid official earning several million rupees each month before allowances and other facilities are added.

According to the details presented in the Senate, Ahmed Hayat Lak, OGDC’s Managing Director and CEO, receives a basic monthly salary of Rs. 5,564,171. Chief Financial Officer Muhammad Anas Farooq earns Rs. 2,837,940 per month, while Executive Director Petroleum Muhammad Aamir Saleem receives Rs. 2,211,990.

Among other executive directors, Shehzad Safdar, Executive Director Human Resources, has a basic monthly salary of Rs. 1,889,298. Zia Salahuddin, Executive Director Services, receives Rs. 1,849,433, while Atif Ghafoor Mirza, Executive Director Joint Ventures and Business Development, earns Rs. 1,893,434.

The salaries of general managers are comparatively lower but still substantial. Khurram Shehraz, General Manager Internal Audit, receives Rs. 1,100,929 per month. Dr. Khalid Ameen Khan, General Manager Exploration, earns Rs. 900,881, while General Manager Production Habib Ullah Chohan receives Rs. 700,443.

The company secretary, Waseem Ahmad, has a basic monthly salary of Rs. 607,754.

In addition to their basic salaries, the ten senior officials are entitled to several allowances and facilities. These include a house-rent allowance equivalent to 45 percent of their basic salary and utilities allowance amounting to 10 percent of the basic pay. They are also provided with car and fuel facilities.

After the applicable allowances are included, the monthly remuneration package of the OGDC managing director exceeds Rs. 8.6 million. The CFO’s overall monthly package is reported to be more than Rs. 4.4 million.

The information presented to the Senate also showed that all ten officials have more than three decades of professional experience. Most of the executives were recruited through press advertisements and headhunters before being appointed by OGDC’s Board of Directors.

Their educational qualifications include professional and advanced degrees in fields such as law, chartered accountancy, business administration, engineering and geophysics. The MD is based in Islamabad, while other senior executives are posted in Islamabad, Karachi, Quetta and Sukkur.

OGDC is Pakistan’s largest exploration and production company and is listed on the stock exchange, with the government holding a majority share. The disclosure has drawn attention to the compensation structures followed by state-owned enterprises.

During the Senate proceedings, questions were raised regarding whether OGDC’s remuneration packages are comparable with those offered by private-sector exploration and production companies. Senators also discussed the possible impact of high executive compensation on the company’s overall operational expenses.

However, no change to the existing salary and benefits structure was announced during the briefing.

    PSX sheds 280 points amid cautious trading

Trading remained volatile during the session. The index reached an intraday high of 179,123 points and a low of 177,903.87 points. Despite the decline in the benchmark index, market activity remained relatively strong. Around 339.48 million shares were traded during the session. The total value of shares traded stood at approximately Rs19.71 billion. Investor sentiment remained subdued as market participants appeared cautious about taking fresh positions. Profit-taking also contributed to the pressure on the benchmark index. The partial recovery from the morning low indicated some buying interest at lower levels. However, it was not enough to push the index back into positive territory by midday. Investors continued to monitor market developments and broader economic indicators for direction. The afternoon session was expected to determine whether the index could recover its losses or close the day in negative territory.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, dusty winds are also expected in Karachi’s outskirts, while central parts of the city are likely to receive light rain as the weather system continues to move through the region. In response to forecasts of widespread rainfall across Sindh, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah placed provincial authorities on high alert. He directed municipal bodies, the Water Board, and district administrations to remain operational around the clock to respond to any rain-related emergencies. The chief minister instructed authorities to immediately clear stormwater drains and blocked points, deploy dewatering pumps in low-lying areas, and ensure uninterrupted drainage operations. The problem has reportedly become a growing concern in several localities, including Shah Jamal, Shadman, Mozang, Band Road, Mall Road, Gawalmandi and Krishan Nagar, where residents and shopkeepers say sudden voltage fluctuations and unstable power supply have become a routine problem. Consumers complain that fluctuations occur repeatedly, sometimes several times a day, putting expensive electrical and electronic equipment at risk. They say that while power supply interruptions are already a major inconvenience, sudden variations in voltage are causing additional financial losses to households, businesses and small shopkeepers. Shopkeepers at Shadman Market expressed serious concern over the situation, saying commercial consumers were particularly vulnerable because their businesses depend on refrigerators, air-conditioners, washing machines, energy savers and other electrical equipment. Zeeshan and Khaqan Hussain said repeated fluctuations had become a source of anxiety for traders, who fear that costly appliances may be damaged without warning. Similar complaints have emerged from Shah Jamal, where residents and traders have also raised concerns over unstable voltage. Fida Chishti and Ahsan Qadri said consumers were already struggling with rising electricity costs and could not afford additional expenses on repairing or replacing appliances allegedly damaged by fluctuations. Residents in other parts of Lahore, including Mozang, Band Road, Mall Road, Gawalmandi and Krishan Nagar, have also complained about the worsening power situation. They said the issue appeared to be affecting a wider area of the city and required immediate attention from the power utility. Consumers said the problem was particularly serious during periods of high electricity demand and extreme weather, when fluctuations and interruptions could become more frequent. They urged LESCO to inspect the affected feeders, transformers and distribution network to determine the causes of unstable voltage and take corrective measures. The Daily Minute Mirror office has also reportedly faced appliance-related problems amid repeated power fluctuations. According to staff, incidents involving electrical equipment have occurred several times, raising concerns about the impact of unstable voltage on office operations and costly appliances. Residents and traders said they had repeatedly submitted complaints to LESCO offices regarding power fluctuations but claimed that no significant improvement had been witnessed. They said the continued problem had created frustration among consumers, who wanted the power utility to take practical measures instead of merely registering complaints. The consumers demanded that LESCO conduct a technical assessment of areas facing frequent fluctuations and check the condition of transformers, feeders and other components of the distribution system. They also called for an effective complaint mechanism through which consumers could promptly report voltage-related problems. The Daily Minute Mirror contacted relevant LESCO offices to seek their response regarding the complaints, the reported appliance damage and the measures being taken to control power fluctuations, but no response was received until the filing of this report. Consumers have appealed to LESCO authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and ensure a stable and reliable power supply across Lahore, saying that continued fluctuations were not only disrupting daily life but also placing an additional financial burden on households, businesses and commercial consumers.
