Pakistan hockey team captain Abu Bakar has expressed confidence that the national side can deliver a strong performance at the upcoming Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands.

According to him, players including Imad Butt, Hannan Shahid and Sufyan Khan had made it clear that the team’s first objective was to qualify for the top four.

“Our first target is to reach the top four, and after that, we want to stand on the victory podium,” Abu Bakar said, highlighting the team’s ambition to compete for a medal rather than simply participate in the tournament.

The captain also spoke about Pakistan’s highly anticipated clash with arch-rivals India. He said the World Cup encounter would be completely different from the matches played between the two sides in the FIH Pro League. While the players are familiar with each other from previous international competitions, Abu Bakar believes the pressure and significance of a World Cup match will make the contest much more challenging.

“Compared to the Pro League, the World Cup match against India will be completely different,” he said.

Despite the intensity surrounding the Pakistan-India rivalry, Abu Bakar remained confident about his team’s chances. He said Pakistan would make every possible effort to defeat India and secure an important victory in the tournament.

High-speed diesel prices had reached a record level of Rs520.35 per litre on April 3, after rising from Rs281 per litre following the escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran. Similarly, petrol prices had climbed to Rs458.41 per litre during the same period after starting from around Rs266 per litre in early March. Earlier, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced that fuel prices would be adjusted more frequently, including possible daily revisions, due to rapid changes in international oil markets. The government assigned the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) the responsibility of determining fuel prices based on global trends. The decision to introduce daily fuel price adjustments faced opposition from the All Pakistan Dealers Association, which raised concerns and indicated that it may consider a protest strategy. Petrol remains one of the most widely used fuels in Pakistan, mainly powering private vehicles, motorcycles, rickshaws, and small transport vehicles. Speaking at a public gathering in Muzaffarabad earlier this week, Bilawal said maintaining peace, fairness, and transparency was essential during the election period. He argued that resolving the crisis should not be viewed as a political victory or defeat for any party but as a national responsibility aimed at protecting the future of Kashmir and safeguarding Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir issue.
