GUJRAT: A disturbing incident involving newborn twins abandoned in Gujrat has been reported from the Madina Syedan area within the jurisdiction of Sadar Gujrat Police Station.

According to rescue officials, a newborn baby boy and girl were found after allegedly being abandoned inside a shopping bag. The infants were subsequently handed over to Child Protection Gujranwala for care and protection.

Doctors who examined the newborn twins said that both babies were in good health. The children are now under the supervision of the relevant child protection authorities as further arrangements are being made for their care.

Police have reportedly traced the woman believed to be the mother of the newborn twins. She is currently under police custody while receiving treatment at a hospital.

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings against the woman, while investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to police sources, the initial investigation suggests that the woman’s husband had contracted another marriage. Police sources said the alleged abandonment of the twins may have been linked to the distress caused by the second marriage.

The reported motive remains part of the preliminary investigation, and authorities are expected to gather further evidence before reaching a final conclusion about what led to the incident.

The case has drawn attention to concerns surrounding the safety and protection of newborn children. Child protection authorities are currently responsible for the welfare of the two infants following their recovery.

Fazlur Rehman called for overcoming regional, linguistic and group-based divisions and urged people to move forward as one Pakistani nation. He said the objectives of Pakistan’s creation included an Islamic system, a prosperous economy and stable democracy. Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Pakistan was created on the basis of the Two-Nation Theory but the country had yet to fully realise the objectives for which it was established. He criticised successive governments for making people’s lives difficult and said the implementation of the Quran and Sunnah was essential to achieving Pakistan’s true destination. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi hoisted the national flag at Governor House. Iran’s Consul General Ali Banafsheh Khah also attended the ceremony. Prayers were offered for Pakistan’s development, prosperity and stability, while Kundi and the Iranian consul general jointly cut the cake marking the country’s 79th Independence Day. K-P Adviser on Finance Muzammil Aslam said the province had witnessed significant improvements and called for greater efforts to strengthen the region. He said the provincial government had faced serious financial difficulties when it took office but the situation had subsequently improved. Aslam said officials should set clear targets for what they wanted to achieve before the next Independence Day. He also stressed the need for collective efforts to eliminate terrorism from the province. K-P Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah said the objectives behind the creation of Pakistan would be fulfilled. He said the people would not hesitate to make sacrifices for the country and would continue working towards its progress and stability. Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja also congratulated the nation on Independence Day. She paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending the country and described the armed forces as guarantors of peace and development. She said Pakistan’s growing international standing reflected the efforts of its political and military leadership.     Love marriage turns fatal in Khanewal as father allegedly kills daughter

    KHANEWAL: A young woman was allegedly murdered by her father and other family members in Khanewal after she married a man of her choice, police said. The incident took place in Chak No. 170, Tens-R, within the jurisdiction of Sadar police station. According to the initial information, the victim, identified as Iqra, had married Muhammad Sohail three days before the incident. Police said Iqra’s father, Falak Sher, allegedly went to his daughter’s in-laws’ residence and persuaded her to accompany him, reportedly assuring the family that she would be sent off respectfully. However, after taking her with him, he allegedly killed her with the assistance of his two brothers and son. The incident came to light after Iqra’s husband, Muhammad Sohail, approached the police and filed a complaint. A murder case was subsequently registered against the deceased’s father, Falak Sher, and his three sons. Following the registration of the case, police arrested Falak Sher and initiated further investigation. Authorities are also working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the killing and the alleged involvement of other suspects. Rescue officials shifted Iqra’s body to the district headquarters hospital, where doctors conducted a post-mortem examination to establish the cause and nature of her death. The case has once again raised concerns over violence against women who choose to marry according to their own wishes. Police said further legal action would be taken in light of the investigation and evidence collected from the crime scene.
