Pakistan squad arrives in England for Test series

Pakistan’s Test squad has arrived in England for a three-match series, with the team set to begin preparations ahead of the opening Test on August 19.

The national side reached England after drawing their recent Test series in the West Indies 1-1. The upcoming tour will present another demanding challenge, particularly with England’s conditions expected to test Pakistan’s batters and bowlers.

The Pakistan squad will take a short break on August 8 and 9 before returning to training. The team is scheduled to begin its first practice session on August 10 at the County Ground in Beckenham.

Training is scheduled to start at 9:30am local time as the players begin adapting to the English conditions.

Before the Test series gets underway, Pakistan will have an important opportunity to fine-tune their combinations during a four-day practice match against a Select XI. The warm-up fixture is scheduled to take place from August 12 to 15.

The practice game is expected to help the team management assess players ahead of the first Test while allowing the squad to adjust to the pace, movement and weather conditions in England.

Pakistan and England will then begin their three-Test series on August 19. The visitors will be hoping to carry lessons from their West Indies campaign into the tour and make a strong start in England.

For Pakistan, the series will also provide an important test of their red-ball depth, with both experienced players and younger members of the squad expected to play key roles.

With training, a four-day practice match and the opening Test all lined up, Pakistan’s preparations are now officially underway.

The team will be eager to use the coming days wisely before the real contest begins on August 19, when Pakistan and England resume their battle in the longest format of the game.

He explained that the PVF, in coordination with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), had completed all required documentation, secured necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs), and guaranteed comprehensive security measures specifically requested by the Indian delegation. ​Highlighting the tournament’s significance despite the withdrawal, Yaqoob emphasized that the event remains one of the largest international volleyball spectacles hosted in the country, demonstrating Pakistan’s growing capacity to stage high-profile sports competitions safely and efficiently: ​”We are surprised by India’s withdrawal after all necessary arrangements had been completed. At their request, the federation secured all required NOCs and comprehensive security guarantees to ensure the Indian team’s safe participation. Despite their absence, this championship remains a major international event that showcases Pakistan’s readiness to host world-class sports.” ​Pakistan enters the championship with strong momentum following encouraging performances in recent international competitions. Team officials and coaches believe the players are well-prepared to make full use of home-court advantage and familiar conditions as they pursue the regional title. ​The PVF extended a warm welcome to all visiting athletes, delegates, and officials, reassuring them that thorough arrangements have been implemented to guarantee a smooth and memorable tournament.     Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar has issued a statement regarding the transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan from Adiala Jail for medical examination. Tarar said Imran was taken to hospital between the night of August 20 and 21 under strict security arrangements. According to the minister, Imran was examined by qualified doctors, including an ophthalmologist, cardiologist and physician. The doctors declared him medically fit, he said. Tarar clarified that the medical examination was conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), where doctors from Shifa International Hospital were also present. He said Imran was initially scheduled to be taken to Shifa International Hospital. However, PTI workers allegedly created a security situation outside the hospital and along the route, prompting authorities to take him to Pims instead. The minister said the medical examination at Pims found Imran to be in good health. Tarar added that Imran’s sister, Uzma Khan, remained present throughout the medical examination and treatment process. Imran Khan returns to Adiala Jail After completing the medical examination, Imran was shifted back to Adiala Jail at around 5am on August 21, Tarar said. The minister maintained that medical facilities had previously been provided to Imran whenever required and that the government would continue to ensure necessary healthcare in the future. Jail sources also confirmed that Imran had been taken back to Adiala Jail. According to the sources, he was transported from the hospital to the prison under extremely tight security.

    KHYBER: Representatives of families affected by the situation in Tirah Valley will convene a grand jirga on August 20 at Bara Press Club to discuss their return, financial assistance and a future strategy for pursuing their demands. The gathering is being organised by Tehreek Mutasireen Tirah following a consultative meeting held on Sunday. A 24-member committee, along with elected representatives and a special representative of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, has been invited to attend the jirga. Participants will review the difficulties faced by Tirah affectees and discuss arrangements for a safe and dignified return to their areas. The provision of financial assistance and other longstanding demands will also be taken up during the meeting. The jirga is expected to determine the group’s next course of action and decide how to press the government to address the concerns of affected families. During the earlier consultation, community leaders, political representatives, traders, doctors and tribal elders called on the government to ensure a secure and dignified return for the affected population and provide immediate financial support. Tehreek Mutasireen Tirah spokesman Sohbat Afridi said the group would pursue its demands through peaceful means, stressing that any future protest strategy would reflect the wishes of the affected residents and the wider community.

Experts say the destruction of ordinary books is troubling, but the loss of historical or rare editions would be far more serious. They warn that once an original copy is destroyed, valuable physical features such as handwritten notes, bindings, paper quality, and printing techniques may be lost forever. These details are often important for researchers and historians. According to the report, AI companies are especially interested in books published before 2022.
