Pakistan to tour England for five-match ODI series ahead of 2027 World Cup

Pakistan’s men’s cricket team will tour England in May 2027 for a five-match One-Day International (ODI) series, offering both sides an important opportunity to fine-tune their preparations ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup later that year. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially confirmed the tour schedule, with matches set to be played at five different venues across England.

The series will begin on 15 May 2027 in Southampton, where the opening ODI will be played. The second match is scheduled for 19 May in Manchester before the teams travel to Leeds for the third ODI on 21 May. Chester-le-Street will host the fourth match on 23 May, while the fifth and final ODI will be played in Cardiff on 26 May, concluding Pakistan’s limited-overs tour.

The five-match series is expected to play a significant role in both teams’ preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which will be jointly hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia from 4 October to 21 November. With the tournament only a few months away, the ODI series will provide players with valuable match practice and allow team management to evaluate combinations, strategies, and player form before the global event.

Pakistan are currently involved in a two-match Test series against the West Indies. After completing that assignment, the national team will travel to England next month for a three-match Test series scheduled to take place between 19 August and 13 September. The 2027 ODI tour will further strengthen the long-standing cricket rivalry between Pakistan and England and provide another competitive contest between two experienced international sides.

According to the latest ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings, Pakistan are currently placed fifth, while England occupy seventh position. Both teams have consistently remained among the leading sides in one-day cricket, making the upcoming series an important contest as they build momentum ahead of the World Cup.

The last time Pakistan toured England for an ODI series was in 2021, when the two teams played a three-match contest. Although Pakistan did not win the series, then-captain Babar Azam produced an outstanding batting performance. He finished as the leading run-scorer with 177 runs in three innings, including a memorable knock of 158 in the third ODI. His performance was widely praised and remains one of Pakistan’s finest individual displays in England in recent years.

Cricket supporters from both countries are expected to eagerly follow the 2027 series, which promises exciting competition at some of England’s most famous cricket venues.     PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Shafi Jan has strongly criticised restrictions on meetings with former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, saying the party will continue its legal, constitutional and political efforts to protect his health and fundamental rights. Speaking on Tuesday, Jan said the presence of a large number of PTI parliamentarians outside the Supreme Court reflected the party’s determination to ensure that Imran Khan receives proper medical care and access to his family and doctors. He described reports about the former prime minister’s health as deeply concerning and said denying him his constitutional and legal rights was unacceptable. Jan alleged that Imran Khan had been kept in detention through what the PTI considers politically motivated cases. The minister said PTI would not remain silent and would continue pressing for appropriate medical treatment, access to personal physicians and meetings with family members. He particularly criticised the reported denial of permission for Imran Khan’s sisters to meet him, calling the restrictions a violation of constitutional and legal rights as well as court directives. Jan said KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi had already warned that PTI lawmakers would gather outside Adiala Jail on Thursday if Imran Khan’s sisters were again prevented from meeting him. Meanwhile, speaking to a private television channel on Monday, Afridi said the party had been left with little choice but to protest after its concerns were allegedly ignored by authorities. He rejected accusations that PTI was deliberately promoting unrest, arguing that protests would not have been necessary if the party’s grievances had been addressed. Afridi claimed that Imran Khan was being held unlawfully and was being denied access to his family, lawyers and personal doctors. Drivers must also carry the original vehicle registration card and CNIC with them during the procession. Those seeking vehicle passes can contact the designated central office for further information and registration. The traffic police will introduce alternative traffic routes and make diversions at different points during the processions. Additional personnel will also be deployed to manage traffic and guide motorists. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel on procession routes and follow instructions from traffic police officials. Authorities have urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management teams to ensure smooth movement and reduce inconvenience for commuters across the city.

    ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Information Commission (PIC) has imposed a penalty equivalent to 30 days’ salary on Atiq Ur Rahman, Chief Engineer, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, under Section 20(1)(f) of the Right of Access to Information Act, 2017. The Commission issued the penalty after noting the continued failure to submit a written response to the rejoinder and show cause notice and the non-appearance of the Chief Engineer before the Commission. Order of the Commission states that on July 7, 2026, no one appeared before the Commission to file a reply to the rejoinder. Consequently, a show cause notice was issued to Atiq Ur Rahman, directing him to submit a written reply to the notice as well as a response to the rejoinder. On July 28, 2026, Atiq Ur Rahman appeared in person before the Commission. On his request, he was granted an opportunity to file both the reply to the rejoinder and the reply to the show cause notice. However, on the subsequent date of hearing, the Commission noted that neither a written reply had been received nor had anyone appeared before it on behalf of the concerned official. The Commission further noted that its office attempted to contact Atiq Ur Rahman on his official telephone number, but the call reportedly remained unanswered. In its order, the Commission observed that the failure to submit a response to the show cause notice and the non-appearance before the Commission reflected an irresponsible attitude. It further held that the continued failure to respond demonstrated that there was no defence presented by the Chief Engineer and that sufficient grounds existed to proceed against him under Section 20(1)(f) of the Right of Access to Information Act, 2017. The Commission concluded that the delay in submitting a reply to the rejoinder had been deliberate and had affected the timely disposal of the appeal. It therefore imposed a penalty equivalent to 30 days’ salary on Atiq Ur Rahman. The Commission has directed the Director General, Military Land and Cantonment Department; the Accountant General, Pakistan Military Accounts Department; and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, to deduct the equivalent of 30 days’ salary from Atiq Ur Rahman’s salary. They have also been directed to submit a compliance report before the next date of hearing. In addition, the CEO, Rawalpindi Cantonment Board, has been directed to submit a written reply to the rejoinder. The Commission warned that, in the absence of such a reply, the appeal would be decided in accordance with the law. The matter has been adjourned until September 2, 2026, when the case is scheduled to be taken up again.

In a statement, Marri said innocent children had lost their lives, yet no one appeared to be taking responsibility for the tragedy. She alleged that ordinary citizens were paying the price for what she described as incompetence and poor management by the federal government. Marri demanded that those responsible for the incident be identified and proceeded against according to the law. She questioned the federal health minister’s position, asking what justification there was for remaining in office if the minister could not ensure the safety and proper administration of a major government hospital. The PPP leader said the deaths of newborns could not simply be dismissed as an accident while ignoring possible administrative failures. She called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the PIMS fire and urged authorities to determine whether negligence or shortcomings in hospital management contributed to the loss of lives. Marri also questioned the hospital’s fire safety arrangements and emergency response. She asked where the required safety measures were when the fire broke out and why immediate rescue and emergency procedures could not prevent the deaths. The PPP leader demanded strict legal action against anyone found responsible following the investigation. She said the federal government should accept responsibility for the incident and ensure justice for the families who lost their children. Marri described the loss of innocent lives as irreparable and said those found guilty of negligence should not be given any concession. Her remarks came amid widespread public anger following the PIMS tragedy, which has prompted demands for accountability, improved fire safety systems and stronger emergency preparedness at government hospitals.
