Pattaya Holds Successful “King of Fight: Sand Fury by Pattaya” Beachside Muay Thai Event to Boost Soft Power and Tourism

PATTAYA, Chonburi: Pattaya City, along with the Chonburi Provincial Sports Association and the Sports and Recreation Promotion Club, staged the Muay Thai tournament “King of Fight: Sand Fury by Pattaya” on the sands of Central Pattaya Beach last night, June 25th, hoping to elevate traditional Thai boxing as a national soft power asset and stimulate sports tourism.

The opening ceremony was jointly presided over by Mr. Samrit Phongwirat, Secretary-General of the Chonburi Provincial Sports Association, and Mr. Damrongkiat Pinijkarn, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City. Senior officials from Pattaya City Administration, members of the Chonburi Provincial Administrative Organization Council and Pattaya City Council, the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Pattaya Office, the Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, tourist police officers, representatives from government agencies and the private sector, athletes, media and members of the public joined the event.

Mr. Samrit expressed his honour and delight at partnering with Pattaya City and the Sports and Recreation Promotion Club to organise the competition. He stated that Muay Thai is a refined art and science that embodies Thai wisdom, culture, discipline, courage and sportsmanship, qualities that have earned global recognition and admiration.

“This event marks another big step in promoting, preserving and disseminating the art of Muay Thai,” Mr. Samrit said. “It provides a high-standard platform for athletes to showcase their abilities, refine their skills and gain valuable competitive experience. By doing so, we further establish Muay Thai as one of Thailand’s key soft power strengths, generate added value for tourism and attract both Thai and international visitors to Pattaya.”

He also extended his gratitude to Pattaya City, the Sports and Recreation Promotion Club, government agencies, private sponsors and all supporting staff for making the tournament a success. Mr. Samrit wished every fighter the best, urging them to compete to the fullest of their abilities while upholding the rules, respecting their opponents and maintaining the spirit of sportsmanship, so that the unique charm and cultural value of Muay Thai can be shared with audiences both in Thailand and around the world.
