Mother Driving With Family Rear-Ends 10-Wheel Crane Truck Near Pattaya; Young Son Critically Injured

A Honda CR-V driven by a mother rear-ended a 10-wheel truck carrying a crane early Sunday, leaving the family’s 13-year-old son in critical condition and two other family members injured, police said.
The accident occurred at about 12:40 a.m. on July 26th on Highway 36 opposite the Bira Circuit race track in the Pong subdistrict. Officers from Nong Prue Police Station received the report and coordinated with volunteer rescuers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Muang Pattaya, who arrived with cutting equipment, along with a medical team from Pattaya Hospital.
At the poorly lit scene, authorities found the gray Honda CR-V with its front end severely damaged after violently striking the rear of the truck. The car had come to rest in the right-hand lane, with engine oil spilled across the road and debris scattered around.
Three family members were trapped inside. Rescuers forced open the doors and extracted the victims. The mother, who was driving, sustained moderate bodily injuries. A young girl suffered abrasions and a head wound. The 13-year-old boy was critically injured and struggling to breathe. All three received initial first aid before being rushed to a local hospital for urgent treatment.
The other vehicle involved was a 10-wheel truck that was transporting a crane. Its rear showed clear impact damage. The truck’s uninjured driver, Mr. Songphon Phromchaeng, 64, remained at the scene to give a statement.
Mr. Songphon said he had been driving in the left lane toward his company, less than 50 meters from the crash site, when he heard a loud noise from behind. He then discovered the CR-V had slammed into the rear of his truck. He immediately stopped, checked the situation, and alerted police and rescue teams.
Police photographed the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed those involved. Investigators are examining the cause of the collision and will proceed according to legal procedures.
