Phuket-Middle East Flights Cancelled as Regional Conflict Escalates

PHUKET — A total of 22 flights between Phuket and several Middle Eastern cities have been cancelled since yesterday, following the launch of US and Israeli attacks on Iran and subsequent Iranian retaliation against American military targets in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain.

Passengers to/from Thailand Urged to Check Flights as Middle East Airspace Closed

Monchai Tanod, director of Phuket International Airport, reported today that two inbound flights from the Middle East and nine outbound flights were cancelled on Saturday, with an additional 11 flights grounded today. The disruption has left seven aircraft stranded at Phuket Airport awaiting further instructions from their respective airlines, Thai PBS reported.

The affected carriers include Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Unicair, and Air Arabia, all of which have arranged accommodation for passengers whose flights were cancelled due to the escalating regional conflict.

Travel Advisory

Phuket International Airport is advising passengers planning to fly to the Middle East to check flight status directly with their airlines and to monitor airline announcements closely, even after arriving at the airport. Passengers requiring additional information about flights can contact the airport’s Information Centre or call 0-7635-2302.

Thai Airways Operations Normal

In contrast to the Middle Eastern carriers, Thai Airways announced today that its operations continue as normal, with all flights between Bangkok and Europe proceeding uninterrupted. The airline confirmed it is avoiding the airspace of countries affected by the situation in Iran, utilizing alternative flight paths to ensure passenger safety while maintaining service reliability.

Security Measures Increased

Meanwhile, Thai authorities have implemented enhanced security measures for certain establishments and foreign nationals who may become potential targets for attack as a result of the broader regional conflict. Police have increased vigilance and patrols around sensitive locations, though no specific threats have been identified within the kingdom.

The report was submitted after PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja approached the Supreme Court. His petition raised concerns about Imran Khan’s health and restrictions on meetings with him. According to the report, Imran Khan’s anxiety was recorded at “Level 3+”. The condition has been described as severe. A medical board examined Imran Khan on August 10, 2026. The board included specialists in eye diseases, cardiology and general medicine. The report states that Imran Khan is around 73 years old. His blood pressure was recorded at 140/80. His pulse was 54 beats per minute. His ECG was found to be normal. His chest was also clear. Doctors found his heart valves and chambers to be normal. The report says Imran Khan complained of heaviness in his head. He also reported feeling that his heartbeat was faster than usual. However, he did not report chest pain. He also did not complain of chest heaviness or shortness of breath. The medical board recommended medicines to control his blood pressure and anxiety. Doctors also recommended regular physical activity. The board suggested that Imran Khan should walk for one hour every day. It also recommended activities that could provide mental relaxation. The report recommends that he should be provided with magazines, newspapers, television and books. These activities could help reduce mental stress during his imprisonment. The medical board also recommended increasing the duration of meetings with Imran Khan’s family and wife. According to the report, greater family interaction could help control his anxiety and blood pressure. The recommendations come amid repeated demands from PTI leaders for greater access to the former prime minister. Jail authorities said Imran Khan receives regular medical attention. Medical officers reportedly check his food intake and conduct medical examinations three times a day. The report also states that several government doctors have examined him during his imprisonment. Records of these medical examinations have reportedly been maintained. The former prime minister has also received treatment from an eye specialist. According to the jail authorities, one of his eyes has now recovered to an almost normal condition. The report includes a summary of medical examinations conducted by 39 different specialists between November 4, 2023, and August 10, 2026. The jail authorities have asked the Supreme Court to dispose of the petition. They maintain that Imran Khan is receiving regular medical care inside the prison. The report also discusses the issue of meetings with Imran Khan. Jail authorities claimed that some meetings had been used to generate public sentiment against the judiciary, foreign policy and law enforcement institutions. According to the report, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi meet every Tuesday under jail rules. A total of 84 meetings between them have reportedly taken place so far. The document also states that Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar met him on February 10 and April 4, 2026. The medical report comes amid renewed political pressure over Imran Khan’s health and access to his family and personal doctors. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi recently announced a protest programme if Imran Khan was not allowed access to his family and personal physicians. The issue of Imran Khan’s health has become a major point of political debate. PTI leaders have repeatedly demanded better medical facilities and greater access to his personal doctors. A psychiatrist cited in the report said that “Level 3+” anxiety indicates a severe state of anxiety and distress. The psychiatrist explained that prolonged isolation and limited social interaction can worsen anxiety. Such conditions may also contribute to hopelessness and depression. He said regular interaction with other people can help reduce anxiety. He also recommended walking and exercise as useful measures for managing symptoms of anxiety and panic. The three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed will hear the petition. Justice Naeem Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim are also part of the bench. The court will examine the medical report and the concerns raised over Imran Khan’s health, medical treatment and access to family members and doctors.

    Palestinians in Gaza held funeral prayers on Tuesday for 112 people whose remains were recovered from the rubble of homes destroyed during the war between Israel and Hamas. Thousands of mourners gathered for the funeral in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood, where the bodies, draped in Palestinian flags, were laid out near the ruins of the destroyed homes before the procession began. The victims are set to be buried afterward at the Baptist Cemetery in the Zeitoun neighborhood, south of Gaza City. The dead belonged to the Al Hasayneh and Abu Sharia families, who were killed when their homes were bombed while they were sheltering inside on November 23, 2023. Given the scale of the casualties, the funeral ranks among the largest recorded in Palestinian history. Civil defense teams recovered the bodies from the rubble on Saturday. A Civil Defence statement said the victims included 40 children, 38 women and seven people with disabilities. Civil Defence official Mohammad Abu Dan said search teams have so far been unable to locate 157 additional bodies still believed to be buried under the rubble. More than 73,000 people have been killed and over 174,000 injured in Gaza since the war began in October 2023, according to local health authorities. Despite a ceasefire agreement that took effect on October 10, 2025, Israeli forces have continued carrying out attacks across the territory, killing 1,250 Palestinians and injuring 4,110 others since the truce began, Gaza’s Health Ministry said. Palestinian authorities estimate that around 9,500 people remain missing under the rubble of buildings destroyed across the territory. A day earlier, at least 19 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire over a 24 hour period, pushing the overall death toll since October 2023 to 73,375, according to the Health Ministry. Officials said the toll included 18 people killed directly by Israeli forces and one person who died from wounds sustained in an earlier attack. The ministry reported that 35 additional injured people were taken to hospitals during the same period, bringing the total number of injuries to 174,220. The ministry said Saturday that 152 people were killed in Gaza during July, the highest monthly death toll recorded since the start of the year, despite the ceasefire that took effect in October 2025. The truce followed nearly two years of war that began on October 8, 2023, and caused widespread destruction across the territory, affecting an estimated 90 percent of civilian infrastructure. The United Nations has put the cost of reconstruction at approximately 70 billion dollars, underscoring the scale of rebuilding that lies ahead even as sporadic violence continues despite the formal end of large scale hostilities.

    Maryam slams PPP over AJK election rigging claims

She said the people of AJK had defeated violence, unrest, bloodshed, protests and strikes through the power of their vote. According to her, certain elements wanted to create conflict between Pakistan and AJK, but the election result was a major setback for them. Maryam said the people of AJK knew what they wanted and were aware of the development work being carried out in the federal government and Punjab. She maintained that voters had chosen development and progress over confrontation and instability. The Punjab chief minister said the election was not the biggest test for the PML-N, adding that the real test had now begun. She said her party had faced numerous conspiracies and challenges, while its leaders had also gone through difficult phases. “We have to start working from day one and should not spend time enjoying protocols and invitations,” she said. Referring to the 2021 AJK elections, Maryam said the PML-N had won 17 seats while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had secured three seats. She said immediate work would begin for AJK once the government was formed, stressing that the new administration should focus on public welfare and development. Maryam Nawaz also described PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif as the founder of modern Pakistan, saying the party would continue its efforts to promote development and progress.
