PML-N wins LA-27 as PPP takes LA-28

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) shared victories in the delayed second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, with each party securing one constituency in Muzaffarabad, according to unofficial and provisional results.

The polling in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I and LA-28 Muzaffarabad-II was held after voting in several polling stations was postponed on August 2 due to heavy rainfall and landslides that disrupted transportation and created safety concerns for voters and election staff.

In LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I, PML-N candidate Noreen Arif was declared the winner after receiving 18,919 votes. She defeated Sardar Tabarak Ali of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), who secured 18,621 votes, giving the PML-N candidate a narrow lead of 298 votes.

Meanwhile, PPP candidate Bazil Ali Naqvi emerged victorious in LA-28 Muzaffarabad-II. He received 28,170 votes, defeating PML-N candidate Chaudhry Shehzad, who polled 26,864 votes. The unofficial results gave Naqvi a winning margin of 1,306 votes.

Election authorities had postponed polling at 57 polling stations across the two constituencies after severe weather and landslides affected access to several areas. Once conditions improved and logistical arrangements were completed, voting was conducted peacefully under the supervision of election officials.

With the completion of vote counting, the unofficial results confirmed PML-N’s continued dominance in the Muzaffarabad Division. The party has secured 15 of the division’s 21 seats, while the Pakistan Peoples Party has won six seats, making it the second-largest political force in the region.

Punjab boards introduce digital result cards

All nine educational boards across Punjab have approved a new Digital Result Card System to modernise examination records and make student services more accessible. Under the new system, boards will stop issuing traditional printed result cards to students. Instead, candidates will receive digital result cards through newly developed online result portals. Students will be able to download and print their certificates from home or use commercial printing facilities when needed. The move will also end the Rs550 fee that boards currently collect from each candidate for issuing conventional result cards at the time of admission. As a result, the boards are expected to lose a significant source of revenue. The first phase of the system will cover Class IX and First Year annual examination results. Class X and Second Year students will join the digital system in the second phase. However, students whose results were scheduled for announcement on August 6 will continue to receive printed result cards under the existing system. Board officials said digital result cards for both regular and private candidates will become available online immediately after results are announced. Regular students will access their certificates through their institutions’ online portals, while private candidates will download them directly from their respective board websites. The new certificates will carry QR codes and other security features to prevent tampering and allow educational institutions and employers to verify them electronically. Officials have also confirmed that digital result cards will have the same legal and official status as conventional certificates. They will remain valid for university admissions, employment, scholarships, equivalence certificates, document verification and other academic and official requirements. The initiative marks a major shift towards paperless examination services and is expected to make the process faster, more convenient and easier for students across Punjab.

Rihanna back in the studio as A$AP Rocky confirms …

Rihanna fans may finally have a reason to celebrate after years of waiting. According to A$AP Rocky, the global superstar is officially back in the recording studio and actively working on new music. The exciting update came during Rocky’s appearance on the latest episode of The Jason Lee Show, where the rapper was asked about persistent rumors surrounding Rihanna’s long-awaited ninth studio album. Rather than keeping fans guessing, Rocky confirmed that the singer has returned to work on fresh material.  “She in the studio right now,” Rocky said during the interview. “Yeah, I said it. Sorry, babe. Like, bro, she working. She cooking, no funny s–t. Damn, I’ma get in trouble for this.”  His comments immediately sparked excitement across social media, where fans have spent years eagerly awaiting Rihanna’s next album. The Barbadian singer has not released a full-length studio album since Anti in 2016, despite remaining one of the world’s most-streamed artists. Over the past decade, she has focused on expanding her successful Fenty empire, acting projects, and raising her family with A$AP Rocky.  During the interview, Rocky also dismissed speculation that the couple is secretly working on a joint album. While he confirmed Rihanna is creating new music, he made it clear that fans should not expect a collaborative project featuring both artists. The latest update aligns with Rihanna’s own recent comments about her long-awaited album. Earlier this year, she revealed that she had finally found the creative direction she wanted and was determined to make music that truly reflects her artistic vision instead of chasing commercial trends. She has repeatedly said the lengthy wait will be worthwhile because she refuses to release anything that does not meet her expectations.  Although neither Rihanna nor her team has announced a release date or shared details about the project’s sound, Rocky’s comments are the clearest indication yet that the album is actively taking shape. Fans have grown accustomed to years of rumors and teases, but this confirmation from someone closest to the singer has renewed optimism that new music could finally be on the horizon.  The revelation has already generated widespread buzz online, with many fans expressing cautious excitement after nearly a decade without a studio album. While some remain skeptical until an official announcement arrives, others believe Rocky’s remarks suggest Rihanna’s musical comeback is closer than ever. For now, one thing appears certain: Rihanna is back in the studio, and according to A$AP Rocky, she is “cooking” something special. After years of anticipation, the wait for her next musical chapter may finally be nearing its end.

    Jos Buttler becomes T20 cricket’s highest run-scorer

Jos Buttler has etched his name into cricket history after becoming the highest run-scorer in T20 cricket, surpassing West Indies great Kieron Pollard during a stunning innings in The Hundred. The England white-ball star achieved the remarkable milestone while representing Manchester Super Giants against Welsh Fire, producing a blistering knock filled with powerful sixes. Since innings in The Hundred are officially considered equivalent to 20-over matches for career statistical purposes, Buttler’s runs count toward T20 records. Speaking after the match, Buttler described the achievement as one of the proudest moments of his career. “To become the highest run-scorer in the history of T20 cricket is a fantastic and proud moment,” he said. “Records are made to be broken, and one day someone else will surely surpass this one.” The England batter also reflected on his recent struggles, recalling the criticism he faced following a lean run of form and an underwhelming T20 World Cup campaign. “Cricket changes very quickly,” Buttler said. “A few months ago I was searching for form, and today I’m probably playing some of my best cricket. When you’re out of form, you have two choices—you either give up or fight your way back.” Buttler’s rise to the top is even more impressive considering the number of matches he required. The 35-year-old broke Pollard’s long-standing record after playing 521 T20 matches, while the former West Indies all-rounder had amassed 14,803 runs in 746 matches. The all-time T20 run-scoring list now sees Chris Gayle in third place with 14,562 runs, followed by England’s James Vince, who has accumulated 14,449 runs. Among Pakistani players, veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik remains the country’s leading T20 run-scorer with 13,571 runs in 557 matches, underlining his remarkable consistency across franchise and international cricket. Buttler’s latest feat reinforces his status as one of the finest white-ball batters of his generation, adding another landmark to an already glittering career and proving that determination and resilience can rewrite cricket history.

Baby Shark star Park Geon-roung takes K-pop leap with WAVE

The child performer who became globally recognised through the viral “Baby Shark” phenomenon is now preparing for a new chapter as a K-pop artist. Park Geon-roung, now 17, is set to enter the Korean music scene under the stage name Baby Shark Boy (BSB). His debut digital single album, WAVE, is scheduled for release on August 20, 2026. The upcoming track will feature Joohoney, a member of the popular K-pop group Monsta X. Park has also contributed to the song’s lyrics, giving him an opportunity to establish an identity beyond his childhood fame. Park first attracted international attention when he appeared in the “Baby Shark” video as a young child. The song went on to become one of the biggest digital entertainment phenomena in history, reaching audiences far beyond its original target of young children. The Pinkfong Company, the South Korean entertainment company behind the franchise, is supporting Park’s transition into music. According to the company, WAVE will include musical elements inspired by “Baby Shark” as a nostalgic connection to the performer’s early career. However, the new release is intended to present Park as a young musician in his own right rather than simply revive his childhood role. The original “Baby Shark Dance” became the most-viewed video on YouTube in November 2020 after overtaking Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito.” It later became the first video on the platform to cross the 10-billion-view mark. The video has since accumulated more than 16 billion views, demonstrating the extraordinary global reach of the children’s song. Its popularity was largely driven by repeated viewing among children, with young audiences often replaying the short video multiple times. That high level of repetition helped transform the song into a global digital phenomenon. The track also moved beyond children’s entertainment and became a major social media trend. The #BabySharkChallenge encouraged users around the world to recreate its distinctive choreography. International celebrities and major K-pop acts also participated in the trend, helping the song reach audiences that extended well beyond its original demographic. Now, nearly a decade after his appearance in the viral video, Park is attempting to build a career in a very different part of the entertainment industry.
