PPP to challenge AJK election results over rigging…

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has announced that it will challenge the results of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections through legal and constitutional forums, alleging widespread rigging, voter manipulation and administrative interference during the electoral process.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, accompanied by senior PPP leader Chaudhry Yasin, accused the federal government, the AJK Election Commission and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of working together to influence the election outcome. He claimed the electoral process was neither transparent nor impartial and alleged that several complaints submitted by the PPP were ignored by the election authorities.

Memon said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had repeatedly called for free, fair and transparent elections in AJK. He said Bilawal had urged all institutions to protect the democratic process and ensure that the interests of the Kashmiri people remained above political considerations.

The PPP leader alleged that the AJK Election Commission failed to perform its constitutional responsibilities fairly. He claimed the commission did not take action on complaints submitted by the party during polling and questioned its impartiality throughout the election process.

According to Memon, polling staff and election materials reached several polling stations late, affecting the voting process and creating unnecessary confusion among voters. He also questioned the postponement of polling in constituency LA-27, saying the decision was based on weather conditions despite what he described as clear circumstances.

He further alleged that violence and intimidation were reported in several constituencies during polling. Referring to the killing of PPP worker Mukhtar Younis in LA-9 Nikyal, Memon claimed the incident reflected the deteriorating security situation on election day. He also alleged that attacks on PPP workers and political leaders were not properly investigated despite complaints to the relevant authorities.

Memon accused authorities of failing to take action against those allegedly involved in election-related violence. He also claimed that PPP workers who reached certain polling stations after receiving reports of irregularities came under fire.

The senior minister further alleged that ballot papers had reached some candidates before polling day and claimed there were serious violations during the voting process. He also alleged that voter turnout in one constituency exceeded 100 percent and called on the Election Commission to investigate the matter immediately.

He said the PPP would continue to pursue all available legal and constitutional options to challenge the election results. The party, he added, would present evidence before the appropriate forums and seek action against those responsible for the alleged irregularities.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also criticised the conduct of the elections, saying the Election Commission had failed to address complaints raised after the first phase of polling. He maintained that the party reserved the right to demand re-elections in constituencies where it believed the electoral process had been compromised.

Jennifer Aniston’s changing priorities spark con…

Jennifer Aniston is reportedly entering a new chapter in her personal life, but not everyone in her inner circle is convinced it is the right move. According to recent reports, the Friends star has been shifting her priorities away from work and placing a greater focus on her personal relationships, a decision that has reportedly prompted concern among some of those closest to her. While Aniston has not publicly addressed the claims, insiders suggest the actress is embracing a slower pace after years of balancing an intense Hollywood career.  A source claimed that Aniston’s priorities have “completely shifted,” with more of her time now dedicated to her relationship with boyfriend Jim Curtis. The report suggests that some friends have advised the actress to “pump the brakes,” expressing concern that she may be making significant life changes too quickly. However, those close to Aniston also acknowledge that she appears genuinely happy and is making decisions she believes are best for her future.  The reported shift comes after Aniston has openly spoken about the importance of achieving a healthier work-life balance. In previous interviews with People, the Emmy-winning actress admitted that she has long considered herself “a bit of a workaholic” and recognized the need to make time for herself after several demanding years. She explained that she has become more intentional about scheduling breaks and protecting her personal time to avoid burnout.  Over the past few years, Aniston has remained one of Hollywood’s busiest stars. In addition to starring in and executive producing Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, she has continued expanding her successful haircare brand, LolaVie, while also pursuing new film and television projects. Her packed schedule has left little room for downtime, making her recent focus on personal happiness understandable.  Despite speculation that her career could take a back seat, there is no indication that Aniston plans to retire from acting. Instead, reports suggest she is simply becoming more selective about the projects she chooses, allowing herself greater flexibility to enjoy life outside of work. Friends and colleagues may have differing opinions about her changing priorities, but Aniston has consistently emphasized that maintaining balance is essential to both her personal well-being and professional success.  Throughout her decades-long career, Aniston has built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most respected and reliable performers. From her iconic role as Rachel Green on Friends to her award-winning performance in The Morning Show, she has demonstrated remarkable consistency and longevity. That success gives her the freedom to make choices based on fulfillment rather than constant professional ambition. Whether the reported concerns from her inner circle are justified remains unclear, as they are based on anonymous sources rather than public statements from the actress herself. What is evident, however, is that Jennifer Aniston has become increasingly vocal about protecting her peace, valuing meaningful relationships, and creating a healthier balance between work and life. If those priorities continue to shape her future, they may ultimately strengthen both her personal happiness and her enduring career.  Jennifer Aniston is reportedly entering a new chapter in her personal life, but not everyone in her inner circle is convinced it is the right move. Iran, Oman move closer to Hormuz shipping agreement

TEHRAN: Iran and Oman have reached a preliminary understanding on the geographic coordinates of a proposed shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, marking progress in negotiations aimed at regulating navigation through one of the world’s most strategically important waterways. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said discussions between Tehran and Muscat had advanced positively and that both sides had agreed on the geographical framework of the proposed route. He added that a joint statement outlining the key points of the understanding was in its final stages and could be issued if the process is not disrupted by external factors. Despite the progress, Baghaei emphasised that the agreement alone would not automatically guarantee security in the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that ensuring stability in the region would require broader cooperation and continued diplomatic engagement. According to regional officials familiar with the negotiations, the proposed arrangement would give Iran a greater role in overseeing vessels entering the Gulf through the strategic waterway. However, several technical and operational issues still need to be resolved before any final agreement can be implemented. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s busiest energy transit routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and gas exports. Any changes to shipping arrangements in the area are closely watched by international markets due to their potential impact on global trade and energy supplies. Officials involved in the negotiations described the talks as constructive, while indicating that further consultations would continue before a formal announcement is made. Both Iran and Oman have maintained that dialogue remains the preferred path for addressing issues related to maritime navigation and regional stability.

Kerosene price reduced as government extends relief on petroleum products

The federal government has extended the latest reduction in petroleum prices by lowering the cost of kerosene oil, providing additional relief to consumers who rely on the fuel for household and commercial use, particularly in remote and off-grid areas. According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the price of kerosene has been reduced by Rs3.58 per litre. Following the latest revision, the new retail price of kerosene has been fixed at Rs301.64 per litre, down from the previous rate of Rs305.22 per litre. The reduction comes as part of the government’s broader revision of petroleum product prices aimed at passing on the benefit of changes in international oil markets to consumers. Earlier, the Petroleum Division announced fresh prices for major petroleum products effective from August 4, confirming a decrease in the prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel. Under the revised rates, petrol has become cheaper by Rs4.80 per litre, bringing its new price down to Rs331.95 per litre. Likewise, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has been reduced by Rs2.45 per litre, setting the new rate at Rs389.93 per litre. The latest cuts are expected to provide modest relief to motorists, transporters, and businesses facing high operating costs, while the reduction in kerosene prices is likely to benefit households in regions where the fuel remains a primary source for cooking, heating, and lighting.

KP makes registration mandatory for street vendors

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly has passed the Street Vendors Protection Bill 2026, making registration and vending certificates mandatory for people operating carts and roadside stalls across the province. The new law is expected to provide legal protection to more than 140,000 street vendors for the first time. Under the legislation, individuals aged 14 years and above will be eligible to register as street vendors. All vendors will be required to complete registration and obtain a valid vending certificate. Registered vendors will receive a modern digital vending certificate containing a QR code. The certificate is intended to formally recognise vendors and provide them with legal protection while carrying out their businesses. The law provides protection against unjustified eviction and harassment. Government employees found harassing street vendors could face strict departmental action. The legislation also introduces penalties for members of the public or shopkeepers who harass vendors. A person found guilty could face a fine of up to Rs20,000 or imprisonment for up to one month. Vendors will also have the right to appeal if their vending certificates are suspended or cancelled. The law prohibits vendors from selling or transferring their vending certificates to another person. Anyone violating this provision could face a fine of up to Rs3,000. The legislation also highlights the economic contribution of street vendors to the province. According to the bill, vendors collectively generate more than Rs380 billion in economic activity every year. The informal vending sector is estimated to contribute around Rs130 billion annually to the national economy. The government expects that better regulation and management of the sector could generate an additional Rs2.5 billion to Rs5 billion in annual revenue. The new legislation aims to bring the informal vending sector under a formal regulatory framework while providing vendors with legal recognition and protection.
