Prachuap weather warning issued for 6–9 August
Prachuap Khiri Khan Governor Sittichai Sawatsan has issued a Prachuap weather warning for 6–9 August, with heavy rain, flash flooding, landslides and rough sea conditions possible across the province.
The warning comes as a monsoon trough extends across the upper North and upper Northeast, while the south-westerly monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand strengthens.
Rainfall is expected to increase through Sunday, with heavy to very heavy rain forecast across many parts of Thailand.
Prachuap Khiri Khan is among 27 provinces identified as being at risk from the conditions, along with neighbouring Phetchaburi and provinces across the North, Northeast, East, Central region and South.
Residents in areas prone to localised flooding have been advised to remain alert. Particular attention should also be paid to places at risk of flash floods, forest run-off and landslides following heavy or prolonged rainfall.
Local authorities have been instructed to issue advance warnings and keep residents informed. The public should closely monitor weather forecasts and official announcements throughout the warning period.
Coastal and tourist areas advised to take precautions
Warning signs should be installed along coastal areas where necessary, while tourists should not enter the sea during periods of strong winds and waves.
Boat operators, captains and passenger vessel operators have also been advised to navigate with caution.
Natural tourist attractions, particularly caves, waterfalls and cave passages, should be closely monitored. Access should be restricted if heavy rain creates a risk to public safety, the warning said.
